Purr-fectly Thrifty, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Thrift Shop, Caring Actions for Animals, Inc., Resale Shop, Delaware Beaches, Henry & Francesca, 2 adoptable cats

Someone that is thrifty is wisely economical, sparing, or frugal. The items you might not need or want can be treasures to others.

dscn0387dscn0407

I kept seeing the sign that said Purr-fectly Thrifty.  I knew it had to be a second hand shop, but to tell you the truth I did not have any idea until I decided to clean my closet the other day.  I had 3 large bags and even though I have taken items to other second hand shops around Rehoboth Beach, the opportunity to check this one out could not be resisted.

dscn0417

Purr-fectly Thrifty is located at 19753 Sea Air Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-727-5774.  The Proprietor?  Rose Karaka  It is right behind the PNC Bank, and adjacent to Outlet Liquors.

The sales proceeds from Purr-fectly Thrifty benefit Caring Actions for Animals, Inc. (CAFA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

dscn0410dscn0399

Their mission is to support animal welfare initiatives that will improve the quality of life for many animals in Delaware.  They love cats.  They sponsor cat adoption fairs and they work with the Georgetown SPCA.

Rose was telling me that the most important thing is educating the community on the benefits to spay or neuter their pets.  This corporation provides cat food for feral cat feeding stations where required.  They also provide assistance to those that due to financial restraints or physical limitations, cannot provide their pets the necessary food or medical attention.

First impressions?  Did not look like a second hand shop.  The bright colors took me back.  Even the display cases were colorful.

dscn0386

There is merchandise for everyone.

Home goods….lamps, vases, art, toasters, sheets, towels.

dscn0396dscn0397

dscn0411

Christmas items!!

dscn0389

Men’s clothing.

dscn0403

Women’s clothing, shoes and bags.

dscn0408

dscn0409

Children’s clothing and toys.

dscn0405dscn0414

When I saw it, immediately I thought of a Kitty Condo.  Meet Henry and Francesca.  They live at Purr-fectly Thrifty for now….  They are available for adoption.  These are special needs cats.  Here is their story.

dscn0383

dscn0385

Their names are, Henry, the bigger one and Francesca.  They are looking for a new home.  Of course, together would be best, but it will be fine, if not possible. They are about 4 or 5 years old.  Up to date in all shots.

They are special needs kitties because they are carriers of FIV (feline infectious virus), which a contagious disease that only affects cats.  That means they need to be placed in a home without other cats, because the virus could be passed along to other cats if scratched or bitten.  This virus cannot be passed to people or other dogs or pets in your home.

They are both very lovable and so cute.  If you have any questions or are interested please call Rose at 302-727-5774.

Caring Actions For Animals, Inc (CAFA) needs contributions to continue their mission.  Items to donate can be dropped off at the thrift shop during business hours.  Monetary contributions can be made payable to Caring Actions For Animals, Inc. and mailed to:  179 Rehoboth Avenue, Box 188, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971-9998.

So, keep them in mind when cleaning your house of treasures no longer needed.

“Meals on Wheels, Lewes-Rehoboth is on the front line by helping senior citizens remain independent, dignified members of our local community by assisting in the maintenance of their nutritional needs…one meal at a time.”

Meals on Wheels of Lewes & Rehoboth, Inc. was founded in 1970 and was the first home delivered meal program in the State of Delaware.  It is in its 40th year of service to the local community.

You can find Meals on Wheels at 32409 Lewes Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.  Tel. 302-645-7449.  Fax 302-644-1676.  Website?  www.beachmeals.com.

Meals are provided 365 days each year to over 260 home-bound residents in Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey Beach and Harbeson.

I have friends, 2 in particular, who have been delivering meals for many years.  Just as they give a smile and a warm meal to the ones in need, they, themselves, get so much in return.

I was amazed to find out that the proceeds from last year’s event paid for over 4,000 hot meals for their home-bound clients.  Just in 2010, 107,200 meals were served by their agency.  This could not be possible without the supporters and sponsors.

This year’s tournament should offer a great opportunity to challenge your skills amidst the beautiful scenery overlooking Rehoboth Bay, because the fundraising tournament will be on Monday, October 3rd at Rehoboth Beach Yacht & Country Club.

The entry fee will include Dinner and OPEN Bar and even complimentary beverages on the course.  All to make this a very enjoyable day and evening, while supporting a cause dear to a lot in the community.

There will be tournament prizes for:  gross, net, low gross men, low gross women, longest drive and closest to the pin.

You can register by visiting their website, www.beachmeals.com.

Fees:

$150 per player

$550 per team (4 players)

$25 Super Ticket/Single (1)

$75 Super Ticket/Team (4)

This includes:  Green fee, cart, beverage on couse, dinner with open bar and awards ceremony.

Super Ticket

A hot item in many charity golf tournaments!!  The all inclusive Super Ticket includes:

2 Mulligans per player

Cash prizes for hole in one holes

Chance to win a shot for 1 Million Dollars!!!!!

Entry into a drawing for a dream vacation!!

$25 per player/$75 per foursome

Schedule:

11:30 a.m. – Registration

12:30 p.m. – Shotgun start

5:00 p.m. – OPEN BAR, Dinner, Auction, 50/50 Raffle, Awards Ceremony

Note:  Dress Code enforced; Soft spikes only.

Let’s say you do not play golf but would like to attend the dinner and the awards ceremony, then a $50 donation is all you need to pay.  You can find all this info. in the above mentioned website.

Meals on Wheels are always in need of donations.  If you don’t play golf or are unable to attend, please consider a donation to this amazing program.  Again, all you have to do is visit their website.

If you would like to be a Hole Sponsor, the cost is $200.  An 18 x 20 sign with the company name and listing in the program booklet is included with the paid sponsorship.

Another Note:  If you would like to donate an item for the auction, please contact me so that I can pick it up or have someone pick it  up.

Thanks so much!!!

AboutMyBeaches is 2 Years Old, Events, Activities, Restaurants, Reviews, Recipes, Delaware Beaches, Ocean City, Maryland, Delray Beach, Florida,

img_4410

and points in between.  Yes, sometimes I might be on my way somewhere and the opportunity calls to check out a food truck, a tapas bar, a new beach, or a new museum.  That’s why it is so much fun about writting a website in a blog style.  It is a diary, yours alone.

AboutMyBeaches has made realized that I want to know and experience more.  I remember when my webmaster, Ed Timmons from 4C, Inc., http://www.4cinc.com, mentioned I should write a blog instead of the standard website.  I guess he figured I was talking his ear off so I was a good candidate for bla, bla, bla.  He just did not know how much I could talk.

Then, I started blogging, only a few readers here or there.  People that are connected on the internet suddenly started to find me.  I think my posts are honest and from my heart.  I have posted so far 728 posts, and now I am getting over 14,000 hits per month.  Who would have thought?

And, you know what? I want more.  Granted, some posts are more interesting than others; so its life itself.  Remember that it is a diary.

100_1010

Pictures….I decided to incorporate them because people are so visual.  Looking at a picture entices you to read.  Well, I should hope so, even though I do have some friends that say they have read the posts but maybe they just looked at the pictures.  I know who they are, right?  Shelley, Debbie at times.  Not Missy or Richard, though.  My fault, I test them.

My friends and my family have put up going out to dinner with me.  My first statement as we sit down at a table is “don’t touch the food until I take a picture” and “can we all order something different?”  I am surprised they even still want to go out with me.

It is so funny because I get e-mails or suggestions on places to go and check out.  I welcome them; we all have different likes and dislikes and I am an inquisitive person.

The coastals towns that, I, predominantly promote, I love.  There is something about living by the ocean.  I know I am lucky.  The Delaware Beaches have been home for many years and so good to my family.  Giving them a push is not a brainer.

J. Palmer, Inc., General Contractors, Beach House Management, LLC, Property Manager, South Florida, Palm Beach County

Different events happened in my life in 2010.  One of them was a kitchen fire in my place in Delray Beach.  We were lucky that nobody was hurt.  All of a sudden companies were knocking on our doors to ‘help us” get our place back together. I could not believe it.  It was like they were attached to a radio, following fire and flood disasters.

Fire in Coralina 1

Since my place of residence is Delaware, I do have a Property Manager in Delray Beach.  I have written about him in the past.  His name is Michael Keegan and his company is Beach House Managemenht, LLC.  It is located at 777 E. Atlantic Ave., Suite Z-307, Delray Beach, FL 33483. Tel. 561-376-4329.   Beach House Management is also one of my advertisers.  So, visit the website by just clicking on it on the right hand side of this site.  In it you will learn about the company, the services they provide, links, and other important information.

I have known Michael for years and I am not ashame to say that I could not live without him.  He has been a constant since we first purchased in Delray.  My family has certainly kept his property management services busy.  And it does not stop there.  He has also helped my children while in Delray so many times.

Having a property manager means to me peace of mind; it is not a luxury, but a necessity.  He is always there; just a phone call away.  That’s exactly what happened back on April, 2010 when there was a kitchen fire.  Michael was at our place on that moment’s notice already contacting the people that were important at that time.

fire in coralina 2

He introduced us to Dan Palmer.  He owns J. Palmer, Inc., located at 3805 Investment Lane, Riviera Beach, FL 33404.  Tel. 561-848-7114, toll free 800-824-4997.  They are General Contractors, specializing in insurance restoration and remodeling.  Also involved in general property repairs and maintenance.

Dan was incredible. The fire happened in April and I probably met Dan in late June.  But, every Monday he called us with the updates. Yes, our conversations were all handled through the telephone.   He took care of emptying the contents of our place. He had everything cleaned.  He dealt with the insurance company.  That is his specialty.  I trusted him so much that he picked my appliances, tiles, kitchen faucet and gave me directions on how to get through something like this without falling apart.  Easy, one day at a time.  He is cool, calm and collected.

Kitchen Coralina

The place has turned out so nice, so here are the results, after kitchen replaced, floors replaced, furniture and clothing cleaned, painting, replacing curtains (he brought the fabric samples).  It really was definitely a lot of work for Dan, but he got it done.

282

I even had him put a cabinet, countertop and sink in a half bath that was not part of the restoration.

287

But wait, I am not finished.  There was water damaged upstairs and another claim had to be filed and floors replaced.  He took care of it all.

If you find yourself in this type of situation, please do not hesitate to call Dan Palmer.  You have the telephone numbers.  He has been extremely professional; I cannot say enough.  I recommend his company fully, just like I recommend Beach House Management, as well.

Have a great week-end….talk to you later…..

Back in May when I visited Puerto Rico I met Paul Gonzalez when he was promoting the Puerto Rico Coffee Expo.  I told him that I was a coffee afcionada and that I would be more than pleased to put the information for this great event on my blog.

Puerto Rico is known for its coffee.  I remember my grandmother always having her afternoon coffee.  It is a ritual.  A relaxing time to share with friends and neighbors.

J. Conn Scott, Inc., Selbyville, Delaware, Showroom, Fine Home Furnishings, Showhouse, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

100_2596

I have a friend, and her name is Trish.  The othe day we took off and went on a road trip that pretty much ended at J. Conn Scott.  She is fairly new to the area so I was giving her my undivided tour.

J.Conn Scott has its Main Showroom at 6 East Church St., Selbyville, DE, 19975.  Tel. 302-436-8205.  Website: www.jconnscott.com.

100_2597

On fashionable, Baltimore Ave., in Rehoboth Beach, they have a “Showhouse”.  The address is 27 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-227-3780.

100_2670

J. Conn Scott is a family business.  They were established in 1924.  A solid reputation, customer service, and the best furniture available has made this company what it is today.

100_2605

Their main showroom in Selbyville is massive; huge.  You can fine furniture from traditional to coastal.  Rugs, accesories, art, antiques, vases, lamps are part of the many items available for all our decorating needs.

100_2666

The “Showhouse” in Rehoboth is beautiful, as well.  It gives the visitors to the Rehoboth area ideas and inspirations.  Richard changes that “Showhouse” every Tuesday.

I really can talk about this company with ease because years ago when I moved to Rehoboth Beach from Bethany Beach, Richard helped me.  I laughed because at the time he told me that he would go into some of his customers’ homes and they still had everything in the same spot he placed them originally.  Well,  I just told him the other day that everything is in the same place in my house, as well.  I think that’s a compliment, really.

J. Conn Scott’s employees let you walk around their showroom at peace.  Need help? Then, they are there to help you with your choices and decorating needs.

You might not think you need a decorator.  I think some are a bit intimidating.  But, they can actually save you money in the long run.  A decorator has more experience and could prevent you from making costly mistakes.  Decorators have put together so many rooms; probably more so than you.  Therefore, their experience is invaluable.  Some times it can be the difference between a pretty room and a room that will make people’s jaws drop.  In the end, it will be how comfortable you are in making choices.

Let me show you what this Showroom is all about:

I have just shown you part of this 35,000 square foot showroom.  It is pretty impressive and to get the full effect, you really have to visit the store.

Richard told me that so many items are coming in every day.  They deliver; you just have to tell them where.

Have a great day…..and week-end too….
