Rehoboth Beach, Delaware is open year-round. It has been a thing of the past when after Labor Day the streets were rolled up until next Summer. The Second Season at the Beach brings events and activities that keep all visitors very busy and having a good time. Charming shops, tax free shopping, art galleries, restaurants…and of course, the perfect time to stroll and catch your breath.
So what is going on this week-end?
Saturday, October 17th – DELAWARE SPCA-5TH ANNUAL BARK ON THE BOARDS – At Lake Gerar Park, in Rehoboth Beach 10:30 a.m. (registration). 11:30 a.m. Walk. Grand Marshal Celebrity Recording Artist, Pamela Stanley. Refreshments, Children’s Activities and Vendors. This Dog Walk on Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk will benefit Homeless Shelter Pets. Celebrate the off season when dogs are welcomed on the boards and beach in Rehoboth Beach. So break out the leash and your flip flops to take to the boards and help animals in need.
No dog? No problem! You don’t have to have a dog to participate. enjoy a leisurely stroll on the boardwak and participate in fun activities for the whole family. Please do not forget to dress up! This year’s theme is “Mardi Gras for Paws”.

Saturday, October 17th – SODEL FEST-SOUTHERN DELAWARE WINE, FOOD 7 MUSIC FESTIVAL from Noon until 4:30 p.m. at Independence Hall & Grounds, 23767 Samuel Adams Circle, Millsboro, DE. It will be hosted by Paul Cullen, the event promises a fun and refined afternoon of food, beer and wine samplings and pairings, cooking demos, and a great musical line-up. The Culinary Theater will feature Food TV’s Neil Fuentes, “The Singing Chef” and 5 local, award-winning restauranteurs. Special events include a 100-pt wine tasting, an exclusive cheese tasting, a blind tasting and Wine 101 for the wine newbie! General Admission Tickets are $75 per person. I could tell that it was August because Staples was packed…this is their Christmas when everyone is ready to go back to school. Rehoboth Beach is open year-round and even though the summer of 2013 might be coming to an end, this town is just getting started. There is still time to think about all the festivals and the comings and goings of this coastal town….stay tuned for that.

Friday, 8/9 – Clear Space Theatre Company is inviting you to join them on Friday, 8/9, for 2 FREE matinee performances at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. WICKED will be presented by the talented students in their Musical Theatre Summer Intensive Program. Until 2014 – If you love Rehoboth Beach, you should stop by and visit the Rehoboth Beach Museum. It is an easy museum to navigate and you will still have plenty of time to hit the beach, shops, and restaurants. You can learn how Rehoboth Beach was then and how it has developed during these years. The present exhibit is “Beach Eats”. Rehoboth Beach is a dining destination, as well, and the exhibit celebrates over 100 years of eating in Rehoboth Beach, from the grub to the fine dining. If you have been coming to the beach, you know that August is so busy….and parking can be a hair raising experience. So, for the 40th Annual Outdoor Fine Art & Fine Crafts Show this is what you should do:
Since the parking in Henlopen Acres is very limited, the Art League is suggesting you use the Jolly Trolley. Two convenient locations: Park your car at either the Kmart on Rt. 1 or at the Rehoboth Beach ElementarySchool at 500 Stockley Avenue. The shuttle will begin running at 9:45 a.m. and will be making continuous loops to the Outdoor Show. I have used it and recommend it.
If you decide to venture and park in Henlopen Acres, please be considerate of the residents. Adhere to parking restrictions, including no parking on the street. Unless there is a “No Parking” sign, all vehicles must park on the grass with tires off the pavement. Yes, you heard me right and I write this too from experience.
For the 2 week-ends of the show, Henlopen Acres’ Dodd’s Lane, beginning at the instersection of Rolling Rd. and Tidewaters, from Dodd’s Lane to Zwaanendael, will be temporarily one way street. Visitors will be entering Henlopen Acres by making a left off of Columbia Avenue and exiting Henlopen Acres across from Rehoboth Beach’s Surf Avenue.
Saturday, 8/10 – Opening Reception for artist Michael Krausz from 6 – 9 p.m. A benefit for AIDS DE, 6 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. It is the 5th Annual Silent Art Auction at Gallery 50, located at 50B Wilmington Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. When looking for information regarding what’s going on at the Delaware Beaches, I look for activities, events and entertainment that really interest me. There is so much going on. If you really put your mind to it and your fingers to your computer or telephone keys you can probably find the same info. I am just trying to make it a little easier for the visitors to find them, highlighting some of the fun things at our beaches. Busy little towns, we are!!

Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk - South
Friday, 2/24 – Monthly Screenings, presented by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society feature films and discussions about the various cultures in the world.
Oscar Shorts for Award Consideration – Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at Movies at Midway located on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach. Admission is $4 for members and $6 for “future” members. The screenings will be at their upstairs screening room.
Following the screenings, local film critic Rob Rector will lead a discussion about what makes each film eligible for award consideration and you will be able to vote for your favorite.

Until, Sunday, March 4th – Exhibit at the Rehoboth Art League, located at 12 Dodds Avenue inside Henlopen Acres. “The Other Side of Howard Schroeder” Works rarely seen from the Family collection. The exhibit is presently taking place at the Corkran Gallery. There is something for everyone.
