Second Season at the Delaware Beaches is really nice. Everything is open, no meters, except in Lewes, cooler temperatures…..and an amazing shoreline.
I have taken a few days here and there to do some Fall Travels….plenty of people take this time of the year to visit resorts, island, etc. etc. that otherwise would be packed during the summer months.
Plenty of activities and events at the Delaware Beaches….here are a few of my picks for now.
WEDNESDAY, 9/24 – 3-COURSE INTERACTIVE-CLASSROOM-STYLE COOKING DEMO – 6:30 p.m. -Catch 54, Route 54, Fenwick Island. First Course? Deviled Eggs, Hurricane Drink, Second Course? THURSDAY, 9/25 – REHOBOTH BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY FALL WALKING TOUR – A 45 minute gentle stroll around downtown Rehoboth Beach starting at 9 a.m. at the Bandstand at the end of Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk. The cost is $10. Reservations are required, so please call 302-227-7310. The tour will provide general info. about the history of Rehoboth Beach. It will also give you information on several of the storms that have shaped this coastline.

THURSDAY, 9/25, FRIDAY, 9/26 – MONTHLY SCREENINGS BY THE REHOBOTH BEACH FILM SOCIETY: LIFE ITSELF – 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday – Location – The Den at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View, Delaware…West of Bethany Beach.
On Friday – Location – Upstairs Screening Room at Movies at Midway on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach
Admission is $4 for members and $6 for non-members. Directed by Steve James and produce by Martin Scorcese and Steve Zailian, Life Itself recounts the inspiring and entertaining story of film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert. Based on his memoir of the same name, the movie tells of his journey, from school newspaper reporter, to movie critic, to Pulitzer Prize winner, to t.v. household name, to the finding love at 50, and finally his “rhird act” as a major voice on the internet when he could not longer physically speak. Proclaimed by many to be the best documentary of the year. This is a must see for anyone who loves movies.
There will be a post film discussion at the Movies at Midway with William Nack, a close friend and colleague of Roger Ebert for over 50 years.
FRIDAY, 9/28 – REHOBOTH BEACH MUSEUM FALL OPEN HOUSE – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum, 511 Rehoboth Avenue. Refreshments will be served. This will be an opportunity for locals and visitors alike to go through the Museum at your own pace. The latest exhibit “Cruisin’, a historical look at not just toys on wheels, but an important mode of transportation for some, as early as 1817. Through the years Rehoboth Beach has been called the “Most Popular Beach in America”.

SUNDAY, 10/5 – THE EVENT FOR PET LOVERS AT THE BEACHES – 4TH ANNUAL BARK ON THE BOARDS – The Delaware SPCA will host this event from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Festivities will take place before the walk, starting at 10:30 a.m. Join the Rehoboth Beach community as we make strides agains animal homelessness!! I have noticed the traffic on Coastal Highway, up and down the Delaware Beaches, might have slowed down a bit during the week…but, on week-ends, it is just as hectic as summer. Getting out of town for the beaches for some fun and relaxation! It is a great time to experience Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island. These coastal towns have managed to capture the visitors’ attention. Restaurants are open, tons of shops from boutiques to outlets, entertainment, including theatre, music, and fundraising events. So, these are AboutMyBeaches picks if you are in Rehoboth Beach this first week-end of October.
Friday, 10/4 through Sunday, 10/6 – 37th ANNUAL FALL SIDEWALK SALE – Top merchandise at bargain prices…cleaning those shops to let the holiday merchandise have a little space. If you like to bargain hunt, this is the week-end to come to Rehoboth Beach. The sale will begin at 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Some store hours may vary. The sidewalk sale also includes Dewey Beach.
Friday, 10/4 until Sunday, 10/27 – MINIATURES EXHIBITION from 5 to 7 p.m.. Free and open to the public at the Rehoboth Art League, located at 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres. “Miniatures are personal objects that draw the viewer into an intimate concentrated little world that is breathtaking in its execution. Every single detail is miniaturized. They show a high standard of design and the artist’s mastery of the chosen media and palate.” This is the first Miniature Show at the League, featuring artists from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee and California. Saturday, 10/5 – BARK ON THE BOARDS on the Rehoboth Beach award winning Boardwalk!! This is a fundraising event for Delaware SPCA, who has been connecting people and pets since 1873. Happy 140th Birthday!! Register by today, October 3rd and pay a reduced fee, plus receive a free dog bandana and goodie bag!! Otherwise, on Saturday, the registration starts at 10:30 a.m. There will be pet contests, Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, Refreshments, Doggie kissing booth, entertainment, face painting, raffles, and vendors. Mondays, 10/7 until Monday, 11/4 – PUPPY & DOGGIE TRAINING CLASSES – Location? Doggies at the Beach. Training by Tara of Get Your Wag On. 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. $145 You mush register and pay to hold the spot. This is a certified, positive reinforcement training program.

An afternoon of “dog-gone” good fun for individuals, families and canines at the 3rd Annual “Bark on the Boards”….Destination? Lake Gerar in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Date? Saturday, October 5th.
Even though Rehoboth Beach is known as a summer destination, the Second Season is one of the best. Restaurants are open, shops are full of merchandise, the beach is a place for relaxation….and for fundraising!!
If you are traveling with your pooch to Rehoboth Beach, check this fundraising event hosted by the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It is the oldest and most experienced animal welfare organization in the state.
Last year, the event attracted more than 250 walkers with their pets. It is sponsored by Browseabout Books. The afternoon includes dog contests, including a bikini contest, a disc dog demonstration, refreshments, kids’ activities, and much more.
Location? Lake Gerar Park in Rehoboth Beach. Lake Gerar is one of the 3 fresh water lakes closest to the ocean anywhere in the country. Along with Silver Lake, and Lake Comegys…these are the jewels of Rehoboth Beach!!
All the money raised is used to fund the work of the Delaware SPCA and for the care of abused, neglected and homeless animals, and their efforts to reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs. Delaware SPCA is the oldest animal welfare organization in thestate. It was established in 1873. Today it operates shelters in Stanton, New Castle County, and Georgetown, Sussex County.
This walk also coincides with the first day of the “off season”, when leashed pets can be walked on the Boardwalk and beach without restrictions.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. in Lake Gerar Park. The walk will start at Noon at the north end of the Boardwalk.
Advanced registration is $20 for adults, before October 3rd, and $25 the day of the event.
Children ages 6-16, accompanied by an adult, are $5; those 5 years of age and under are free. Walkers can pre-register on-line at http://www.delspca.org.
This year Bark On The Boards is part of a schedule of Delaware SPCA’s 140th Anniversary events that will culminate with the “Canines on the Catwalk 140th Gala” to be held at Greenville Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 16th. The fun and fashionable festival will include a night of tasteful delights, entertainment, silent auctions, and a runway event featuring some very cool cats and haute designer dogs. More info?
