This unique event, the first one in Delaware will take place on Monday, September 6th, starting at 3:00 p.m.  It will be held on the seaside grounds of the Historic Indian River Life Saving Station, located 3 miles south of Dewey Beach or 1 mile north of the Indian River Inlet on Rt. 1.

If you are not familiar with this historic site, then please check my post written on 8/29.  All you have to do is scroll down to that date.

Chef Matt Haley is the Host and Chef for Outstanding in the Field (OITF).

This organization started in 1998.  OITF travels the world to find exceptional chefs to showcase the local food culture and salute area farmers, growers, and fishermen.

Fish On, Betty’s Pure & Simple, Lupo di Mare, Bluecoast, Northeast Seafood Kitchen and Catch 54 are the restaurants that feature the farm-to-table concept.  These restaurants have available local farmers’ products, and their proximity to Sussex Country farms and farm markets, make it so much easier.

And should I ask , what would be on the menu?  The freshest the area can provide that day; maybe crab, rockfish, sweet corn, juicy tomatoes, peaches or locally raised beef.  Each course is going to be paired with an appropriate wine.  You will have to attend and see.

The price is $200 per person.  To order tickets and for more information about Outstanding in the Field, please visit www.outstandinginthefield.com.

See you there….maybe, if I can get tickets….

Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5K Fun Run & 3K Fun Walk, Bethany Beach, Delaware Beaches, Mother’s Day Week-End, Saturday, May 8th

Fun Run and Fun Walk for Breast Cancer in Bethany Beach

Fun Run and Fun Walk for Breast Cancer in Bethany Beach

I should not even have to mention the word Breast Cancer.  All of us have been touched in one way or another with this devastating disease.  I have plenty of friends in the past years diagnosed and courageously fought breast cancer.

This event is getting more popular every year.  I had never attended any of them.  But, last year I did.  To tell you the truth, it was emotional to see all of the people there congregating for one purpose only.  To, help raise funds to benefit all of those who help fight the battle against breast cancer every single day.

It was fun also.  Some runners and walkers were celebrating remissions, others doing their thing in memory of loved ones.  Family, friends, pets, kids in strollers, they came out so I hope you do too on Saturday, May 8th.

Being in Bethany Beach this time of the year is a real treat.  No parking meters, not crowded and the weather is usually pretty nice.  What can I further say?  Here is the info:

Meet at the Bethany Beach Band Stand at the Beach, at 9:00 a.m., rain or shine!!!

You may sign up to donate, volunteer, or register on-line at:  www.bethanybeachbreastcancer.com.  The website is great.  In it you will see what the Run/Walk is all about, pictures, where are the donations going, etc. etc.

New this Year:

Pre-registration close on May 1st.

t-shirts for all participants before May 1st.  (limited number of t-shirts will be available for same day registrants)

Official Race Time Clock!!

DJ Sound Entertainment.  JT Cruise has volunteered to provide tunes throughout the entire event!!

PNC Bank will provide one water station

How Lucky Can I Get?, Shredded Pork, Shredded Coleslaw, Shredded Sliders, Shredder Truck, Earth Day, Lewes, Delaware Beaches, Go Green

100_1099

On Earth Day we celebrate the environment.  The first one was organized in 1970 to promote ideas of ecology and encourage respect for life on earth.  Also, to highlight the growing concern on pollution of the soil, air and water.  It is observed in 140 nations.

Well, I was not paying attention to today’s date.  All I know was that the shredder truck was coming between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to the parking lot at Bethany Blues.  You know?  The restaurant that specializes in barbecue.  I just went there the other day.  It is located on 618285 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), Lewes, DE 19958.  Tel. 302-644–2500.  Website is www.bethanyblues.com.

I wanted to get rid of some of the papers lying around the house.  I felt I was becoming part of the hoarders they show on t.v.  It is Spring so I want to start fresh.

Well, what a surprise when I got to the Bethany Blue’s parking lot.  It was packed. There was a big line waiting for the shredder truck to come back.  I looked around and the atmosphere was more like a festival.  I asked what was going on and they said it was all in the name of Earth Day and Going Green.   I thought I had a good size bag, but it was dwarfed with the amount of boxes and bags waiting to be shredded.

There was music, the shredding was free and Bethany Blues was selling shredded pork, coleslaw and sliders.

How lucky can one get?   Talk to you later….
