Cannot miss it!!

I have been a fan of Em-ing’s for years. I like their End of the Month Friday Pig Roasts, as well. They are popular and until the last bit is sold, they will be there. Today, is the day!! It is their first one of the Fall Season.

dscn8322-300x225

It is a very professional operation…catering, online sales, turkeys for the holidays…check them out!! Traveling on Rt. 113 north or south? Pick up some carry out and keep them happy while driving.

I know that for some roasting a pig seems a little….shall we say too much. But, for many it is the most delicious thing. And, the skin…crispy is awesome! I know, not very healthy, but it is only once a month.

dscn8325-225x300IMG_1410-300x225

Everything is prepared inhouse….You can get every day BBQ; beef, chicken, ribs…. rice pudding, corn bread, great pies, including some sugar free ones, and homemade sweet breads.

IMG_1414-225x300IMG_1415-300x225

Grab a bottle of BBQ Sauce or Hot Sauce….pretty good too.

After the rain event on Thursday….this is an amazing Friday for a Pig Roast!! Have a good one!

Already there was a line and it was not even noon yet.  So, it is almost that time of the day, when you are wondering what to have for lunch and dinner.

Pig Roast, Em-ing’s, BBQ, Selbyville, Corner of 113 and 610…Best Barbecue. A Pig Roast on The Last Friday of Every Month, Delaware

dscn8323

Passing through Em-ing’s I took a sharp turn when I saw the sign of Pig Roast Today.   I had forgotten that every last Friday of the month there is a pig roast going on at this most popular B-B-Q place.

dscn8321

They are located on the Corner of Rt. 113 and Rt. 610.  If you are traveling south on 113 look for it after the Selbyville exit.  You cannot miss it.  Tel. 410-352-5711.  The website is http://www.em-ings.com.  Please check out the website, especially as the holidays approach.  Mail order is big with Em-ing’s.  They also can do catering and fundraising events.

dscn4710

So…there I was staring at the 200 lb. roasted pig.  You get 2 sides with it; your choice of various items.

dscn8322

I also got half a rack of babybacks.  I love them!!

dscn8325

Anyway, that’s all I have to tell you.  They will serve the roasted pig until it is all gone.

But, don’t despair…another one will be on the last Friday of October.

Note:  Em-ings is open year-round.

See you…

A Road Trip? Destination? Berlin, Maryland, Lunch, Em-ing’s Chicken & Ribs, Berlin Chamber of Commerce, NEST, Atlantic Hotel, Jeffrey Auxer Designs, Cupcakes in Bloom, Seacrets, Last but not Least Saketumi, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

My car had not forgotten where to go.  For so many years I had traveled up and down Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) from, Bethany Beach, where I first lived, and later from Rehoboth Beach.  The back roads have always been my favorite.  It is where you can really enjoy the beauty of the area I call home.

Friends from out of town.  Great opportunity to show them here or there.  Today was a road trip from Rehoboth Beach to Berlin, Maryland, in Worcester County.  Jim and Basil had already hit the Farmers’ Market in Rehoboth.  Please don’t eat there I told them.  I am taking you to a special place.

 dscn4710

Em-ing’s!!  If you have been there, then you know I am talking about great barbecue.  Homemade desserts and breads.  They are located on the corner of Rt. 113 and 610 in Bishopville, MD, just after you leave the town of Selbyville, Delaware if you are going south.  The tel. is 410-352-5711.  Website?  www.em-ings.com.

It was great seeing Robin.  We have only talked by e-mail.  I wrote a post on Em-ing’s back on January 22, 2011.  If you want to see it just click on the month of January, 2011 on the left hand side of this website, and scroll down to the 22nd.

I think Jim and Basil were very happy with their choices.   This is what we all had.

dscn4696

Jim ordered the Country Rib with a side of Mac, salad, bread and butter.  It also included a homemade pie.  He chose the peanut butter.  I have to tell you that he ate it all.

dscn4704

dscn4708

Then, Basil had the pulled barbecue chicken sandwich with cole slaw and baked beans.  I know he, definitely, enjoyed it.

dscn4705

I decided to have the beef barbecue sandwich.  At Robin’s suggestion, with a side of cole slaw and potato salad.  Perfect suggestions, Robin.  It was delicious, as usual.

dscn4703

Soooo satisfied, it was time to move to the town of Berlin, Maryland, but not before you see the latest addition to their menu.

dscn4694

We decided to stop at the Berlin chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center located at 14 South Main St., Berlin, MD 21811.  Tel. 410-641-4775.  Website?  www.berlinchamber.org.

dscn4713

Berlin is a Historic Village.  An influx of shops, arts, entertainment, and restaurants is making this town a favorite destination for many.  Only about 6 or 7 miles from Ocean City, Maryland, it takes no time to get there.  Even though from the Delaware Beaches it takes longer, believe me, it is worth it.

Pleasantly surprised at how large the Chamber was.  Local artists have studios in this particular building, where you can see them at work.  They were not there when we visited but we could still look into their studios.

dscn4711

From the Berlin Chamber we crossed the street to see if my friend, Dee, was working, NEST, her store.  Dee is one of those shopkeepers that you upon meeting her, you think you have known her forever.  Introduction were made and a few pictures taken.

NEST is a boutique, and a gallery, with local art, village treasures, and handmade collectibles.  It is located at 11 South Main Street, Berlin, MD 21811.  Tel. 410-629-1030.  You can also find NEST on Facebook.

The store looked great and Dee has wonderful things for everyone.

dscn4714

Her colorful bags were hanging, displaying unique contrasting fabrics.  These bags are made by Dee.

dscn4715

We continued with our sightseeing by stopping at the Atlantic Hotel.  Built in 1895, the Atlantic Hotel is located at 2 North Main St. in downtown Historic Berlin.  Tel. 410-641-3589.  Website? www.atlantichotel.com

dscn4742

Some of the early guests were called “Drummers”, traveling salesmen that crisscrossed the area during the turn of the century.

dscn4718

The Hotel plays an integral part in this town.  Events, parades, pretty much are centered around it.  It is open for lunch, dinner, and for special events.

dscn4740

I wrote a post on November 5, 2011 on this historic hotel.  Just check my archives.

We then continued on our exploration of  Berlin even though it was somewhat hot today.  When I first visited Jeffrey Auxer Designs, I was so impressed by this young artist.  His craft? Blown Glass.

dscn4720

Jeffrey Auxer Designs is located at 19 Jefferson St. (behind the Atlantic Hotel).  Tel. 443-513-4210.  Website?  www.jeffreyauxer.com.

dscn4721

For information on Glass Blowing Classes, please call 443-513-4210.  You can find Jeffrey Auxer Designs on Facebook.

dscn4724

Our next stop was Cupcakes in Bloom.  This bakery is located at 120 N. Main St. in  Downtown Historic Berlin.  Tel. 410-641-9020.  You can find Cupcakes in Bloom on Facebook.

dscn4728

Shawnee is the owner and self taught baker.  She is the 2nd place winner of Cupcake Wars.  Talented, created and soooo friendly.

dscn4731

dscn4729

Talking to Shawnee was fun.  You can tell she loves what she is doing.  We decided on a carrot and red velvet for me, one that was like a strawberry pretzel salad all in one for Jim, and Basil got I believe one with peanut butter and chocolate, I think.

dscn4733

We sat outside and enjoyed every single bite.  I wrote a post on this bakery on November 2, 2011.  Check my Archives.  On that post you can see Shawnee’s specialty; the blooming bouquets.

A quick stop at the Globe Theater.  I did not take any pictures.  It is locally owned and operated.  Please check their website www.globetheater.com.  Their new schedule of events is coming out this week.  They serve lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.  And, on their stage thy feature local, regional and national live music.

The Globe Theater is located at 12 Broad St. in Downtown Historic Berlin.  Tel. 410-641-0784.

We took off from Berlin, making our way back through Ocean City, Maryland.  Then, one last stop for my friends to check out Seacrets.  It is located at 117 West 49th St., Ocean City, MD 21842.  Tel. 410-524-4900.  Website? www.seacrets.com. It can be found on Facebook, Twitter and probably any other social media.

dscn4749

Seacrets is one of those places that you have to see for yourself.  It is located on the Bay.  Restaurants, Bars, Beach Bar, and plenty of music and partying.  This past week-end the lines to get in were unreal.  So, here it is.

dscn4743

dscn4746

dscn4745

dscn4748

Now what?  There was not way I would be cooking.  Hungry hombres at home?  You bet!!  A friend to join us for dinner?  Possibly.  So off we went to Saketumi located at 18814 Highway One, Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-645-2818.

Kim was there, as usual.  Friendly and glad to see us.  Tanaka?  He was there too and he is amazing.  To see him work behind the sushi bar is like watching an artist at work.

We had our usuals.  I decided to have the seared white tuna tataki with yuzu citrus vinaigrette, accompanied with fresh wasabi.  Delicious and light.

dscn4759

Then, a lettuce wrap followed.  I am hooked on these.  Ground seasoned chicken so easy to eat and refreshing on a summer day.

 dscn4753

I think the show is over….I am tired.  Talk to you later.

Em-ing’s, BBQ, Beef, Chicken, Roast Pit Beef, Ribs, Country Style, Baby Backs, Bishopville, Maryland, Pig Roast Once a Month

IMG_1417

I knew Em-ings was having a pig roast on Friday.  I was waiting for that day; had that craving.  Em-ing’s has been around for a long time.  And, once a month they have a pig roast.  The way it works is that you go inside and pick your sides; you get 2 and then go outside and they have the roasted pig right there for you.

IMG_1418

The problem on Friday was that it was very cold, therefore, they carved the pig in the back kitchen.  It did not matter because people wait for that day; cars were pulling in and leaving with carry out.

Emings 2

Em-ing’s is located at the corner of Rt. 113 and 610 in Bishopville, Maryland.  Tel. 410-352-5711.  Website? www.em-ings.com.   You can also find them on Facebook.  By checking the website you will find that you can also order baked hams and turkeys, among other things.

From Rehoboth Beach there are a few ways to get there.  I like more the scenic route so I took Rt. 1, by the beach and went south to Bethany Beach, then turn right on Rt. 26, went for a few miles and turn left on Rt. 17 towards Selbyville.  Turn left on Rt. 113 and Em-ing’s is at the next intersection.  Sounds complicated; it isn’t.  When you live here, at the beaches, you drive up and down and driving half hour is nothing.

The way they usually set up the pig roast, weather permitting, is like this:

Emings 4

During warmer months, there is an outdoor area where you can sit out and eat.  Pretty much people just take carry out, I think.

Sandwiches, platters, wings, meal deals, specials are all shown in their website and facebook.

You can buy 1/2 pints, pints, 1/2 gallons and gallons.

They have beef ribs, country style ribs, St. Louis style ribs, baby backs, pork and chicken barbecue, chicken salad, beef barbecue, beef brisket and chitterlings.

IMG_1416

In case you do not know what chitterlings are, well, they are the intestines of a pig that have been prepared as food.  In many places it is eaten as part of the daily diet or at special events, holidays or religious festivities.

The sides include Dutch cole slaw, creamy cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, tropical fruit salad, pasta salad, baked beans, mashed potatoes, greens, green beans and macaroni and cheese.  Their corn bread and bread pudding; delicious.  You just have to exercise a bit more after eating all this.

They bake their own breads, pies and cookies.

IMG_1414IMG_1412IMG_1415

During the week there are specials Mondays through Fridays and for $6.99 you can have:

Mondays – 1/2 chicken with potato salad, roll, butter and slice of pie.

Tuesdays – country style ribs, macaroni salad, roll, butter and a slice of pie.

Wednesdays – 1/2 chicken, pasta salad, roll, butter and a slice of pie.

Thursdays – pork barbecue, cole slaw and a slice of pie.

Fridays – 1/2 chicken or country style ribs, barbecue beans and a slice of pie.

Daily soup and sandwich special for $6.75 will give you a choice of chicken salad, hamburger or chicken breast with a cup of Brunswick stew.

Brunswick stew is also known as “hash” in the south.  It is a tomato base stew, containing lima beans/butter beans, corn, okra and other veggies.  Meats like squirrel and rabbit make it authentic but chicken, pork, or beef is also used.

So, there I was in line to get 3 platters with roasted pig, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans.

IMG_1472

Then I asked if I could have some of the “crispy” which I don’t think people ask often.  I left so happy.

IMG_1410

Stopped by my husband’s office and dropped one and took the rest home.  It was so moist and perfectly seasoned.  We also used some of Em-ing’s Hot & Sassy Sauce, which had a good kick.

Please note that Em-ing’s can cater any event.  Just give them a call.  They are open Mondays to Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Thursdays to Saturdays they are open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

I had a full “food” day on Friday; pig roast during the day and vegan at night.  I really don’t think you can do that but having choices is the best and it was certainly interesting.

Have a good one….talk to you later….
