“The name “Rehoboth Beach” was chosen for the Camp Meeting Grounds.  The source for the name is the Bible (Gen. 26:22):  In early Hebrew, Rehoboth meant “broad places”. English explorers had given this name to nearby Rehoboth Bay in the 17th Century.”   history of Rehoboth beach…downtownrehboth.com

Spring Fling, Doggies at The Beach, The Pottery Place, BIN 66, Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA, Raising funds, Awareness, Having Fun, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

 dscn3994

It is now evening and as I sat down to write this post, I was thinking that it was really a nice Sunday.  It started with an early breakfast in downtown Rehoboth Beach with a friend.  Then, I went to see what was going on at The Pottery Place where Doggies at The Beach had organized a fun event to raise money for the Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA.

I have mentioned Doggies at The Beach often.  It is where I leave my, rescued dog, Addy, when I go away.  I do so with total confidence that she will get the best care.  This is a cage free facility with 24 hour human supervision.  They are located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24) in Rehoboth.  Tel. 302-644-8200.  Website? http://www.doggiesatthebeach.com.

dscn3979

Jim, who is the top dog at this facility had organized this event.  It took place at The Pottery Place, located at 20717 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1).  Tel. 302-227-1660.  Their other location is in Fenwick Island at Fenwick Sunshine Plaza, 1500 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1).  Tel. 302-539-3603.  Website http://www.potteryplaceperks.com.

Another sponsor was BIN 66 Fine Wine & Spirits with 2 locations.  One, next to The Pottery Place at 20729 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1).  This is their Highway One Flagship Store.  Tel. 302-227-6161.  Their other location is in Downtown Rehoboth Beach at 301 Rehoboth Ave. at The Shops at The Pearl.  Tel. 302-227-6966.  Website? http://www.bin66.com.

dscn3978

And, free hotdogs, cooked on site were offered by Bethany Blues Lewes.  Bethany Blues Lewes is located at 618285 Coastal Highway (between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach).  Tel. 302-644-2500.  Website?  http://www.bethanyblues.com.  Eric was cooking and the grilled hotdogs were perfect!!

dscn3992

dscn3993

The proceeds from this fun event were for the Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA.  It is located at 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE.  Tel. 302-856-6361.  Website?  www.delspca.org.  When you open the website it will show two locations in Delaware.  Click on the Sussex County Shelter.  You can see what dogs are available and their story online.

dscn3976

This shelter has been so great in promoting their dogs.  You can also find them on Facebook at Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA.  They have tons of events to raise awareness and funds and to find their adoptable dogs their forever homes.  The facebook page will give you updates and keep you informed as the dogs get adopted.  They are doing an amazing job.  The volunteers are caring and, definitely, animal lovers.

Today they had one cat at the event, but they have plenty at the shelter.

dscn3977

Their dogs were:

Fozzy, aka Fozzy Bear –  I fell in love with him.  He was so gentle and so funny.  Very well behaved.  If you want to check him out, and read his story, go on the website above mentioned and he is there as Fozz-35.

dscn3972

Valentino was so cute and full of energy.  You will find him on the website as Valentino-102.

dscn3973

Beetle was very interested in my hotdog.  He can be found at the website under Beetle-213.

That's Valentino with the Volunteer

That's Valentino with the Volunteer

Phineas & Ferb were found together and what a pair they were!!  Obedient and amazingly calm.  They will need to be adopted together.  You can read more about them on the website as Phineas & Ferb.

dscn3975

People were mingling and having fun.  Some brought their dogs and were having their pictures taken at the Party Booth.

This little dog was sitting in the lifeguarding chair posing like she did that every day.

dscn4002

Definitely, a diva…check her nails!!  The perfect pedicure.

dscn4003

What surprised us the most was the arrival of Reggie, the potbelly pig.  He came with its owner who had adopted Reggie from the Georgetown Shelter, Delaware SPCA.  He was so sweet and so friendly!!  He also is used to dogs since there are a few in his household.

dscn3988

dscn3990

What is left to say?  Well, animals bring joy, peace, and serenity to its owners.  It is proven that therapy dogs improve the lifes of the ones they touch.  I look at Addy and she looks back with those eyes that say “thank you for giving me a chance”.  If only she realized that she has given so much more in return.

dscn0953

Talk to you later…

I cannot believe that Doggies at the Beach is turning 5 years old on March 1st.  I have had my dog Addy, almost 3 years.  Time flies by.  I have also written posts about Doggies at the Beach in the past.  But, even before I had AboutMyBeaches or even Addy, I passed the word around.

Thanks to Renee who also takes her dogs to Doggies at the Beach I learned about this cage free facility.  That was the first thing that interested me.  I thought Addy had been in enough cages to last a lifetime.  Enough of them for her.

I fell in love with Jim and his staff.  They really love pets.  I feel very comfortable leaving her in their care.

Doggies at the Beach is located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway.  This is also Rt. 26.  It is right off Rt. 1.  Tel. 302-644-8200.  Website?  www.doggiesatthebeach.com.

Doggies at the Beach offers its customers a 2,400 square ft. indoor, cage free doggie day/night care facility.  Twenty four hour human supervision, 7 days a week.  The dogs are separated by size.  Plenty of toys available, as well as enough beds for their relaxation and comfort.  By the way, they also have private suites.  Climate controlled; your pooches will never be too hot or too cold.

If you are traveling, you can follow your pet’s daily routine; they have a webcam.

There are forms to fill out and vaccinations forms to be sent; a temperament evaluation also is required.  This is just to make sure your dog gets along with other dogs.

Doggies at the Beach has grooming available and a vet day with discounted prices.  You can visit the above mentioned website for more information.

In honor of their 5th anniversary, Doggies at the Beach will be offering all bathing and grooming dogs a 20% discount to bring back the pricing from 5 years ago.  Please mention that you read this post and receive 20% off bathing and grooming.  Offer ends March 2nd.

In addition to the above, for the week of Sunday, February 26th to Saturday, March 3rd, Doggies at the Beach will be offering Day Care prices rolled back to 5 years ago.  The pricing will be $21 per day the entire week!!!!  Please mention this post in order to get this $21 daycare pricing.  Offer ends March 4th.

Dog and Puppy Training Classes:

A variety of doggie training classes that are geared to build your relationship with your pet.  All classes are based on positive reinforcement.

New Pricing – $120 for 5 weeks.

Puppy Only Training Classes will begin February 22nd until March 21st.  Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Or, February 25th until March 24th.  Saturdays from 1 to 2 p.m.

Dog Training Classes (Over one year) will begin February 22nd until March 21st.  Wednesdays, 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Or, February 25th until March 24th. Saturdays from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Back in December my dog, Addy, was chosen “Doggie of the Week”.  A drawing by D.J. was given to her as a present.

New Year & New Expectations; that’s what this post should be called.  The Delaware Beaches are becoming more popular every year.  The attraction of low property taxes, along with the amenities make the beaches a year-round playground.  Tax free shopping, mild winters, beautiful scenery…the towns have been crowded during the week-ends. This is our Second Season and a few quieter months is the perfect time, for us that live here year-round, to truly embrace the beaches.

What’s Going On? Rehoboth Beach, Winter is Finally Here, A Little bit of This and a Little bit of That, Delaware Beaches

Silver Lake, Rehoboth Beach...Chilly day!!

Silver Lake, Rehoboth Beach...Chilly day!!

It was too cold this a.m. to do anything else so my friend Trish and I decided that it was time catch up.   She is snowbirding this week-end and it was the perfect morning to get together.  We chose The Point Coffee House and Bake Shoppe.  I had just written a post and thought that it was time to try it out.  It is located at the “point” where Rt. 1 meets 1A, at the entrance of Rehoboth Ave.

Boy was I wrong when thinking everyone had gone home we would have the place to ourselves.  It was crowded.  It is comfortable, cozy and Tom is just so friendly, as well as the rest of their staff.

Trish and I were good.  We split our orders and kept within the confinements of New Year’s resolutions, I think.

Our breakfast was delicious…the pictures do not lie.

Rehoboth Beach Museum is Searching for World War II Artifacts

The Museum will be hosting an exhibit that will illustrate the day-to-day life of citizens during WWII.  It is looking only for items of local significance and would like to invite residents to share their family history during this time.  The exhibit is scheduled to open in May 2012.

civiliandefensebook

Rehoboth Beach Museum plans to recall how the lives of those who fought in the war, as well as those they had to leave at home in Rehoboth Beach were changed forever.  The goal is to bring to light and life how residents of Rehoboth Beach were touched by this war; stories told, cherished objects, and visual history.

Already the museum has received photographs that illustrate a group of likely members of the Civil Air Patrol, proudly standing by their planes.  Another important piece of memorabilia in the collection is a WWII rationing coupon booklet.

Nancy Alexander, the Director of the Rehoboth Beach Museum stated “This exhibit is to bring honor to those who fought in the war.  Also, to remember those families who gave up some of the things they loved.  Our area played a major role in the outcome of WWII and it is important to us that we share this with others”.
