What’s Going On? Delray Beach, Florida, Activities, Events, Village by the Sea, Palm Beach County

Good Morning Delray.  Cloudy or sunny in South Florida?  Does not matter because the following events and activities can be enjoyed in most any kind of weather.

IMG_1851

If you are awake, grab your cup of coffee and head out to downtown Delray Beach.  On Atlantic Avenue you will find this morning from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. the Delray Beach GreenMarket.  This Market is part of the Community Redevelopment Agency.  The resurgence of farmers markets offering homegrown produce, baked goods, flowers, and even music is a great way to start the morning.   The GreenMarket is right on this Village by the Sea, south of Atlantic on SE 4th Ave.  Can’t miss it.  Easy parking at this time of the morning.

dscn0518

After strolling the GreenMarket go east on Atlantic and stop just short of the Intracoastal Bridge, at Veterans Park.  There, you will find Artists in the Park, presented by the Delray Art League.  Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

dscn0530

Artists in the Park has been in the community for 47 years.  It is South Florida’s longest running outdoor fine art show and sale.  There is plenty of parking available.

And, since you are there, already, and probably exhausted of walking, strolling and shopping, then you might as well take a couple of hours and cruise on Lady Atlantic and Lady Delray; Delray Yatch Cruises.  It is an intracoastal cruise, north or south of it.  For schedule, information, prices and specialty cruises, please visit www.delraybeachcruises.com.  Tel. 561-243-0686.  I have taken the cruise and it was a relaxing way to spend a few hours; beautiful scenery.

dscn0633

Now that you are relaxed after your cruise, get back in the car and go west on Atlantic Ave.  A visit to the Cornell Museum would be a nice thing to do while in Delray Beach.  The Museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave.  It is in the restored 1913 Delray Beach Elementary Building, and, connected to the Crest Theatre building.

dscn0462

The Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Sundays from 1 until 4:30 p.m.  Closed on Mondays.  Check out the website http://www.oldschoolsquare.org.

IMG_1830

Granted, this week-end might be a little crowded near the Cornell Museum and that area of Atlantic Ave.  That’s because the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) are being held at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, 201 Atlantic Ave.  Tel. 561-243-7360.  Two websites to check if you are a tennis aficionado.  One for schedule is http://www.yellowtennisball.com/online2/schedule.html.  The other?  For special events and offers.   http://www.yellowtennisball.com/online2/special-events-a-offers.html.

IMG_1828

And, if all that fails, well……lunch and mojitos from Cabana will keep you very relaxed….

Have a good one!!!

Out & about in Delray?  Pick up the edition of the new local newspaper, The Pineapple.  It is a free, monthly publication informing visitors and residents what’s going on in The Village by the Sea.  The Pineapple is the perfect name; besides being a crop so long ago grown in town, it is also a symbol of hospitality.

It is so nice to stroll through the vendors.  Their produce was amazing; the colors and sizes were unreal. Food and music are part of it all.

dscn0516dscn0511

dscn0518

I had never seen eggplants as big as these ones.  They said they were Sicilian Eggplants; mild and creamy to sweet and bitter.

dscn0517

On a sunny day like today with low humidity it was the perfect way to start the day.

This little dog was there enjoying herself, just like everyone else.

Delray Beach, Florida, Earth Day on the Avenue, Activities, Events, Entertainment, Village by the Sea, Palm Beach County, Art-Sea Living, Boyton Beach

 img_1805

I got some information regarding the celebration of Earth Month by the City of Delray Beach.   Delray is inviting the community to participate in “green-themed” activities and events throughout the month of April.

img_2011

Earth Day on the Avenue will be hosted by the City of Delray Beach.  It will take place on Saturday, April 9th.  There will be so many things for kids to do throughout the day.  All ages will have fun.  Guess what?  An all day free, family friendly event.  And, here is a little teaser.

Saturday, 4/9 – The Great American Beach Cleanup.  Sponsored by the Sandoway House Nature Center.  7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., at the City’s Municipal Beach.

Delray’s beach is one of its primary assets.  It is a wide and unobstructed beach.  The water is warm and clear.

Delray GreenMarket, Delray Beach, Open Air Market, Palm Beach County, A Saturday Destination

IMG_2454

Just like every Saturday in Delray Beach, you will find a lot of people congregated at SE 4th Avenue in Delray.  That is where the Delray GreenMarket holds court from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to experience the GreenMarket on a gorgeous day.  It was also the day to celebrate in Delray St. Patty’s Day.

The music emanating from that street was great.  Blues; The Cats were playing.  Later on Heidi also played with The Cats.  A CD was for sale and I bought it.  It is really good.

IMG_2446

Lots of people in attendance; some already with full bags in hand.

IMG_2456_1IMG_2450

The guacamole looked delicious.  It was Anita’s Guacamole.  I had not seen them before; I am not sure how long they have been part of the GreenMarket.

I met Lori Nolan and she is the GreenMarket Manager.  She showed me around a bit.  She is one busy lady.  Then she pointed to JC’s Daily Bread.  His moto?  “A Taste of Heaven Without The Wait”.  Jon-Claude Stevens is the Chief Baker.  The website is www.jcsdailybread.com.

I bought some of JC’s Jalapeno bread and it definitely had a bite.  It was very good and I served it with chicken salad and beer.  That’s right!!

IMG_2510

I got one of the cookbooks of the favorite recipes of the Delray GreenMarket.  It is called Tastes of the Season and it is for sale at the GreenMarket or you can also purchased it on line.  Visit www.delraycra.org.   In it you will find recipes like Southern Fried Chickpeas, Shrimp Cakes, Sweet Onion Casserole, Caribbean Shrimp with Pineapple Salsa and so much more.

IMG_2460

Anyway, here are a few pictures from last Saturday’s GreenMarket.  Hope you are there and have the opportunity to check it out this Saturday.
