Destination? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Christmas In Rehoboth Beach, Happy Holidays, Tax Free Shopping, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

DSCN1567

So many visitors come to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, year round.  Rehoboth was incorporated in 1873 to create a Christian seaside resort.  The railroad was extended in 1878 to Rehoboth Beach, therefore, bringing more visitors and businesses to this seaside town.  In 1879 the town was renamed “The Rehoboth Beach Association”.  The population has grown over the years.  Plenty of summer visitors and part time residents increase the population significantly .

During Christmas I love grabbing something to eat in town with a friend….come to think of it I just did that with my friend, Jody.  Stopping at Dogfish Head on Rehoboth Avenue for one of my favorite salads….their pub salad topped with grilled salmon and a delicious dressing is not to be missed.  It looks good and it tasted even better.

DSCN1571

If you decided to visit Rehoboth Beach during the Holidays you will find the town looking more beautiful than ever.  Tiny lights cover the trees in town.  The Boardwalk is a mile long.  It was quiet when Jody and I were walking, no one around.

What’s Going On?, Rehoboth Beach, Entertainment, Doggies at the Beach, Clear Space Theatre Co., Aprihop from Dogfish Head, Spring is in the Air

Even though I am in Delray Beach this week, when I left Rehoboth Beach I could tell that Spring was around the corner; my daffodils were growing like crazy and the pear trees had buds on their branches.  Seemed like the birds were chirping up a storm, as well.  Those little signs that make you feel so good.  And if you get a crisp sunny day, then smile because it does not get better than that.

I woke up in Delray Beach to, again, a chilly morning.  Hopefully, it will be warmer tomorrow.

But, if you are at the Delaware Beaches, then this is what you have to look forward to.

Clear Space Theatre is located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.  On their schedule you will find.

Backstage Lecture Series – Monday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m.  Tickets are $10 and include the seminar, coffee and bagels. It is a monthly installment of theatre-related discussions.  On Monday, March 21st the discussion will be “The Shakespeare Nobody Knows” by Lloyd King, a local English and humanities scholar and instructor.

One of the most, if not the most, prolific playwrights in history, William Shakespeare penned 37 plays and 154 sonnets in his lifetime.  His work has been the inspiration for countless other works, from musicals to movies to contemporary interpretations of his stories.  “The Shakespeare Nobody Knows” will begin with a brief biography of the playwright, leading up to 1599, a pivotal year in his incredible life.  In 1599, he wrote 4 immortal plays, “Henry V”, “As You Like It”, “Julius Caesar”, and “Hamlet”, taking audiences to new intellectual heights.

Mr. King received his Master’s Degree in English from the University of Tennessee, and has also studied at the University of North Carolina, American University, and Pace College.  He taught English for nearly 40 years in Delaware, and operated a touring Shakespeare company at Glasgow High School.

He hopes his participation in this Backstage Lecture will help ease local audiences into being active and eager observers of Shakespeare’s work.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.clearspacetheatre.org, via phone at 302-227-2270, or in person at the box office.

Clear Space is celebrating the centennial of the original novel, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, with this musical adaptation.  The story revolves around young Mary Lennox, who is sent to live with family she has never met after being orphaned.  As she and the servants bring new life to the mansion’s neglected garden, Mary also renews the spirits of her grieving uncle and sickly cousin.

Well, if we can get through the month of February, we will be in great shape.  If you are visiting this week-end the Beaches, it is cold; but very pretty, as well.

Even though it is cold and quiet at the beaches, as I was walking my dog, Addy, this morning I noticed buds on the pear trees.  I hope that is a sign that winter will not last another 6 weeks. Wishful thinking?  I think so.

Monday, 1/31 – At the Lewes Library, located at  111 Adams Ave., “A Random Soldier”.  This book was written by Milton, Delaware, Teri Clifton.  Teri Clifton will read from and discuss her book, which was written on behalf of her son, Chad, who did not make it home from Iraq to tell his own story.  It will be at 7:00 p.m. and the sale of the books will benefit the library.  For more info. please call 302-645-4633.

Wednesday, 2/2 – At the Lewes Library is Special Music Storytime, at 10:00 a.m., by singer and songwriter “Miss Jackie” McCabe.  The winter songs and stories program will feature winte-themed stories and music.  The program is free ans suitable for infants, toddlers and children up to elementary school age.

Wednesday, 2/2 – Once a month the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, the Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway are the sponsors of a film series called Around the World.  It features acclaimed, award-winning international independent films.  At 7:00 p.m.  It is free. Location?  The upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway.  For more info., please call the Film Society at 302-645-9095 or the Lewes Public Library at 302-645-2733.

This Wednesday’s film is Bomber. It is a bittersweet comedy.  Alistar and Vallerie have been planning a special trip to Germany for a very long time.  When their son Ross stops by the house to send them off, happenstance turns into an impromptu family road trip of the most tortuous kind.  Alistar berates Ross for all that he is not in life, while Valerie tries to keep the peace.  It is soon discovered that Alistar’s reason for the often comic sometimes painful trip is to shed a guilt he’s been carrying for years.  Ultimately, the family learns they need each other more than they imagined.  Not rated, Runtime is 85 minutes.

Thursdays, 2/3, 2/10 and 2/7 – Salsa for Seniors and Argentine Tango.  At the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian Street, Rehoboth Beach.  The Tango class will be held from Noon until 1:30 p.m. and the Salsa class will be from 1:30 p.m. until 2:55 p.m.  Each 3 hour series is $25 or $20 for senior center members.  Reservations are requested and no partner is necessary.
