This Thursday, 3/22 the matinee will be at 11 a.m. On Friday, 3/23 is “Pay What You Can” Night. My Fair Lady opened 56 years ago. The creative minds at Clear Space have scaled this show down to fit their intimate 150 seat theatre. Tickets are $30 for General Admission, $25 for Seniors and students, $15 for children. Friday, 3/23 – Rehoboth Beach Film Society is screening Man in the Chair, starring Christopher Plummer. Monthly Screenings feature films and discussions about various cultures of our world including the many varied cultures in our own country. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. but the screening starts at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $4 for members and $6 for future members. Worthy of mention is – The DVD of The ’62 Storm is available now for $15. On Ash Wednesday 50 years ago a powerful nor’easter struck the Delaware coast. Saturday, 4/14 – I know that it is still some weeks away but since it will be a popular screening, I am passing the info. in case you might want to purchase tickets in advance. The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and Camp Rehoboth are co-sponsoring a screening of “Serving in Silent: the Margarethe Cammermeyer Story” at Women’s Fest 2012.
The screening will be at 1:30 p.m. on 3/14 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Rehoboth Avenue.
Glen Close won the Outstanding Lead Acress Emmy for her performance in this made-for t.v. drama about the rights of homosexuals in the military. This true story follows the legal challenge of Col. Margarethe Cammermeyer to her involuntary discharge. After the screening, Grethe Cammermeyer will be present to discuss the journey of her fight against the system.

I meant to write this post last night but after cooking, eating and cleaning…oh well, here it goes today.
Lots of happenings at this time of the year as the Beaches start the Holiday Season. Late last night all the outlets opened….no way, I really did not need anything that badly. But, if you are visiting, why not take advantage of the tax free shopping the State of Delaware offers?

Friday, 11/25 – Just Comfort Shoes located at 18756 Coastal Highway opened at 6:00 a.m. They are near the outlets on Rt. 1! Sales and service with a smile with plenty of sales for this shopping season. This year new lines like Alegria, Cushe, Sannibel by Dansko and Earthies…shopping in comfort.  From Varietai, Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach So much going on at the Delaware Beaches for this Veteran’s Day week-end celebration. The lure of the beach is magical; you feel at peace; the salty air and a slower pace during the Second Season is what’s bringing visitors to the Delaware Beaches. You can be as busy or as lazy as you want.
Big week-end with the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, which has been in existence since 1998. 100 of the best American and international films; features, documentaries, and shorts. The best part is that all films are shown at one, multi screen location; Movies at Midway Complex in the Midway Shopping Center located on Route 1. You cannot miss it.
In the back of the movies you will find what I call a Happening Tent. Tickets, Information, Food, Drinks and the making of new friends. They start early in the a.m. and stay past the last films. The website? http://www.rehobothfilm.com/festival.
I try to collect the poster that represents the film’s theme. This year’s poster is so neat. Nine artists submitted their work, capturing film and the coastal area. “Harvest Moon” by Damon Pla, a self-taught artist, is an acrylic on canvas and he was the winner. Even though he was born in South Florida, his residence is Dagsboro, Delaware.
Friday, 11/11 – Tribute to Veteran’s Day by the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. The CAMP Rehoboth Chorus will be performing tunes from the 40’s in the Big Tent behind the Movies at Midway at 11:11 a.m.

Sunday, 11/13 – Howard Pyle & The Illustrated Story – This is the history, artistry and rise of this amazing artist, by Wilmington Filmmaker, Paul Mento.
Howard Pyle was one of the most popular illustrators and storytellers. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on 3/15/1853 and died on 11/19/1911 at the age of 58. He was influenced by such masters as Winslow Homer and N.C. Wyeth.
You will find an Exhibit at the Delaware Art Museum – Howard Pyle: American Master Rediscovered – American Artist and Illustrator Howard Pyle 1853-1911. The Exhibit will begin 11/12/11 and will be there until 3/4/12.

Looking for a restaurant with parking and within close distance of the Movies at Midway? You don’t want to miss your films. Then, I suggest Saketumi located at 18814 Highway 1 (Rt. 1). A variety of dishes to choose from but I love their sushi and sahimi; outstanding taste and presentation. They open for lunch and will stay open late for dinner, as well.

I cannot imagine Rehoboth Beach putting its feet up and just collapsing….this town is always busy…I don’t know how it accomplishes so many things. I thought this was going to be a quiet week-end, after the Jazz Festival, but noooooo…Check whats going on Saturday and Sunday and a couple of save the dates, as well.

It is one of those autumn days when the sun is shining, the humidity is low, not a cloud in the sky….Rehoboth Beach looks gorgeous and ready for what looks like a full week-end ahead.
If you happen to see a lot of Greyhounds walking in groups is because they are also here at the beaches. Most of them are staying in Dewey Beach celebrating Greyhounds Reach the Beach.

Friday, 10/7 – Guided Museum Tour of the Anna Hazzard Tent House, starting at 9 a.m. It was built in 1895 for use as housing during religious camp meetings. It is located at 17 Christian St. Originally, it was on Baltimore Ave. and then moved to this location in 1975.

I was just thinking how many visitors are still enjoying the Delaware Beaches. Well, it is still fairly warm so you can shop, walk, bike and dine until you drop. And, soon those meters will be put to sleep.
The Delaware Beaches have been doing such a great job in order to keep everyone coming back. Festivals, arts and entertainment, at the heart of it all.
Here is what’s going on….
Thursday, 9/22 – At the Indian River Life-Saving Station, Rt. 1, 3 1/2 miles south of Dewey Beach, Brown Box Theatre Project will be presenting Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at 6:00 p.m. It is FREE. It will take place in the courtyard. Why don’t you bring your blankets, just in case.
Note: You can pre-order a boxed dinner from Matt’s Fish Camp and enjoy it during the performance. I can vouche for its food. Great!!

Que Pasa en Dewey Beach? Mucho…. Dewey Beach is the coastal town where you can find the best music venues….So, it is the perfect place to hold, from Thursday, 9/22 until Saturday, 9/24 the Dewey Beach Music Conference. It will be a various venues in Dewey. The best way to get that info. is to visit http://www.deweybeachfest.com. Plenty of opportunities to work at furthering your music future. Friday, 9/23 – The beautiful Historic Town of Lewes is going to be having such a fun day on Friday. An All Day Italian Festival from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Specialty shops in town will be offering Italian-themed merchandise and even some Italian refreshments. More Info.? Friday, 9/23 – In Rehoboth Beach, it is Opening Night for “Broadway Rhythms” with a Gala and A Night “On the Town” Party. Appetizers and drinks at Clear Space Theatre located at 20 Baltimore Ave., plus a chance to bid on silent auction items.

Friday, 9/23 – Presented by the Rehoboth Film Society as part of their Monthly Screening Series is “In a Better World” winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. At 7 p.m. in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway. Members $3, non-members $5.
Monthly screenings feature films and discussions about various cultures in the world, including the diversity in our own country.
Note: The Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival will start on November 9th until November 13th.

Saturday, 9/24 – It is the 11th Annual Children’s Fun Fest presented by the Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary. It will be at Windswept Stables located on Rt. 24 (Lewes). Free admission, but some rides do require tickets, which are available for purchase at the event.
There will be games, horse shows, pony rides, food, baked goods and even a petting zoo.

Joining us, here in Rehoboth Beach, this week-end? Then, check some of the events that are being held around town this Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday & Sunday, 8/20 & 8/21 – 38th Annual Outdoor Fine Arts & Craft Show – This is the last chance for your to check out more than 120 artists on the grounds of the Rehoboth Art League. Special activities for children will be provided by Kids Cottage on Saturday only. There will be music and food.

Parking: Free Shuttle Service – On Saturday there will be 2 shuttles from K-Mart parking lot on Coastal Highway. The shuttles will begin at 9:45 a.m. and will end at 5:15 p.m. from the Art League. On Sunday there will be one shuttle running from 9:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. from the Art League.
Please note that parking in Henlopen Acres is limited. You need to adhere to parking restrictions including No Parking on Street. Unless there is a “no parking” sign, all vehicles must park on the grass with tires off the pavement. Really, is true.

Saturday, 8/20 – Adopt-A-Thon for Safe Haven Dogs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at WSFS Rehoboth Parking Lot on Rt. 1 between Giant and Walgreens. Bring the whole family. Even family dogs on leashes are welcomed.
Schedule – 10 a.m. 12:30 p.m. – Meet Safe Haven’s Rescue Dogs. Parade at 11:00 a.m.
1:00 p.m. – Pet Contest for Family Dogs. Best in Show, Personality, & Kids Choice.
There will be face paining, a coloring station and mask making, as well.
Doggies at the Beach mascots, Biscuit & Freckles will be there too. Doggies at the Beach is offering free baths to all adoptions.
Animals bring so much love into people’s lives. Doggies at the Beach is a cage free facility with 24 hour human supervision. Always caring about the community, they are informing us of what’s also going on this week-end and beyond.
News from Doggies at the Beach – Nicole, known as the DE Dog Whisperer has been the puppy and doggie trainer for the last couple of years. She has joined their staff a their new Manager. She will still continue to hold the training classes.

Saturday, 8/20 – Delaware SPCA Run for the Paws 5k – Dewey Beach. Mascots Biscuit and Freckles will be in attendance, as they usually are in all doggie related events.
This will be their 3rd annual Run for the Paws begining at 8:00 a.m. on Dogsworthy Street in Dewey Beach.
Join animal lovers as they take to the streets to help homeless and abused animals. You can choose a 5k or a 1-mile dog trot. Stay after the race for fun, refreshments and an award ceremony hosted by The Starboard Restaurant.
Food Drive – Safe Haven has a drop off basket at Doggies at the Beach. Dry food for both, dogs and cats, would be appreciated.
