Wednesday, 10/5 and Thursday, 10/6 – THE BEATLES: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK. This is a new documentary by Ron Howard. Remember him? Happy Days! The touring years is based on the first part of The Beatles’ career (1962-1966). It is the period in which they toured and captured the world’s acclaim. Ron Howard’s film explores how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become this extraordinary phenomenon “The Beatles”. Screening times are at 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater starting 30 minutes before each screening. Admission is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. This is the 6th annual Dewey Goes Pink event. Race registration opens on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The race will begin at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, now surpassing $225,000 in the first 5 years. Savoring the dishes prepared tableside by the area’s top restaurants, shopping beautiful works of art by local artists and artisans….just in time for the Holiday Season, enjoying the soothing sounds of live music, and sipping martinis, beer, and wine.
 Bluecoast All for a good cause. The event was to benefit Children & Families First, an organization that has been in existence since 1884. Focusing on children and families Children & Families First goes the full circle; from helping moms have healthy babies to supporting healthy aging for older adults….and everything in between.

Two events happen every year in Southern Delaware. The office located at 410 South Bedford Street in Georgetown, Delaware was in charge of putting the 2 events in Sussex County. At the helm? Marcie Urgo. Tel. 302-856-2388.
In its fith year a Taste for Art of Southern Delaware is an event not to be missed. It is a fun night! This year’s event took place at Indy Hall at Independence, accessible to all Delaware Beaches and beyond.
It was a festive atmosphere with guests mingling as they sampled delicious tapas style presentations, shopping and listening to music.
Thirteen local artists set up shop around the rooms, along with the restaurants. Here are some photos.

Southern Delaware is a great place for fundraising events. Children & Families First has 2 important events to raise funds during the year. The first one happened to be in May. I will be sure to let you know next year the information because it was so much fun this year when the event called Brunch & Bubbly was hosted by the Lewes Yacht Club in Lewes, Delaware.
Basically, it was a brunch and shopping event with a percentage of the proceeds going to Children & Families First. Local shops gathered through the room and guests were able to shops to their hearts delight. In this photo Jane & Georgie is showcased.
You could stop and sip bubbly and have something to eat…meet and chat with others that gathered on a beautiful day in Lewes. The Lewes Yacht Club outdid itself with great food. I am showing you this so that you can take a peek at the type of event that Children & Families First offers to the communities of Southern Delaware.
EVENT: A TASTE FOR ART OF SOUTHERN DELAWARE, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2014!!
This second fundraising event takes place at Indy Hall at Independence, 23767 Samuel Adams Circle, Millsboro, Delaware 19966. It is actually between Rehoboth Beach/Lewes and Millsboro. This will be the 5th year in which Children & Families First again offers Southern Delaware one awesome evening.
This Signature Event for Children & Families First offers a unique creative arts and culinary experience. Guests will mingle among the featured works of area artisans, available for purchase, while at the same time sampling creative dishes prepared by top gourmet restaurants from Southern Delaware, right in front of your eyes. A little bit of this and a little bit of that!
25% of the sales will benefit Children & Families First. This evening will give you a jump on your Holiday shopping…..great prices and all for a worthy cause.
The cost is $65 per person or $120 per couple. Beer, Wine, and a fabulous Martini Bar, Live Music, Silent Auction and Shopping Galore all in one night. 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

And a “Fund” and “Fun” Raising event is going to be, once again. Imagine how much fun it will be when guests will mingle among the featured works of area artisans while sampling signature dishes prepared by chefs from top area restaurants.
The location? The beautiful, casual, yet sophisticated Clubhouse at Baywood Greens in Long Neck, Delaware, minutes from the Delaware Beaches.
Children & Families First (CFF) has been in existence for more than 125 years. It builds the foundation for strong communities with child-centered and family-focused programs. CFF provide services statewide, and in 2012 it helped more than 35,000 people.
In Sussex County since the 1970’s, the programs cover the life span of helping pregnant women in need, offering parenting education and counseling, targeting families in crisis, programs helping teens in need of cousneling and/or residential treatment, foster care and adoption services, and programs promoting the transition from welfare to work.
Proceeds from “A Taste of Art” will directly support local community programs that give families the relevant tools they need to overcome a crisis and succeed.
So, the committee is already formed and at the helm is Marcie Urgo, Development and Special Events Coordinator for CFF. Marcie is organizing her troops so that this event is as successful as the previous ones.

Saturday, 4/27 – 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. – The War Years, an annual re-enactment event. See period uniforms, barracks displays, equipment and gun demonstrations. Fort Miles is located within Cape Henlopen State Park. After entering the park continue past the toll booths and turn right at the T-intersection. Continue straight and bear left near the campground entrance. The Fot Miles Historic Site is on the right, directly across the street from the observation tower. There are plenty of signs to guide you to the destination. At 1 p.m. a re-enactment of the German U-858 submarine surrender will take place. Saturday, 4/27 – Doodles in Dewey, which started in 2005 as a fundraiser for the Food and Friends organization, as a way to honor a young man who died from aids. He was a teacher, counselor and a dog lover who used Food and Friends services when he was ill. In his memory, the Doodle Romp started and continues. So, this is the 8th Annual Doodles in Dewey. Sunday, 4/28 – Brunch & Bubbly at the Bear Trap Dunes Clubhouse in Ocean View. This is a fundraising event for Children & Families First, http://www.cffde.org. In 1884, 3 local organiations, The Friends Benevolent Society, The Provident Society, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, combined to form the Associated Charities of Wilmington. Their purpose was “To ensure that all who have fallen into distress…shall be wisely helped to regain self-support…” Through various mergers with other charitable organizations over the past 126 years…Children & Families First. It is a non profit social services agency whose branches have touched every corner of Delaware; improving the lives of those in need.
The Sunday Brunch & Bubbly will be a lot of fun with a Champagne Menu and a delicious menu by DiFebo’s Bistro. It is promising to be a great week-end at the Delaware Beaches. Historic Lewes is great to visit year-round. But, there is something about the Fall that brings the best in this town that is much loved by its residents and much appreciated by its visitors.

Tour Hours: Both in the evening at 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., or at 10:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.

Saturday, 10/22 – Get Out & Hike Series – Dune Dynamics Hike (1.5 miles) at 11 a.m. Meet at the Seaside Nature Center then they will go to the respective trail heads.
