Flags For Heroes, Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club, Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes, Delaware, Memorial Week-End, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Honoring Veterans, Men and Women Currently Serving in the Military, and Personal Heroes

dscn9768

What a beautiful day!  This week-end pretty much starts the summer season at the Delaware Beaches.  These coastal towns are ready….I have seen them fixing streets, painting and sprucing up.

dscn9771

Last year Flags for Heroes got underway….all of a sudden visitors and residents were surprised to see the grounds of Cape Henlopen High School full of American Flags!  Cape Henlopen High School is located at 1250 Kings Highway in Lewes, Delaware.  It was so impressive and it overcame all of us with patriotism.

dscn9772

I believe last year they had a goal of 300 flags.  This year’s event had a goal of 500 flags.  It looks like they have met the goal.  You have to drive by it.  It is so neat.

dscn9767

The sponsorships were sold by the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club for $50 and would honor veterans and men and women currently serving in the military, as well as first  responders and personal heroes.

Last year’s proceeds funded 2 scholarships to veterans in Delaware Tech’s Wounded Warriors Program and helped purchase a new ambulance for the Lewes Fire Dept.  Proceeds from this year’s sponsorship will continue to support first responders and military organizations, as well as scholarships to students participating in ROTC programs in college.

The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club has a Facebook page.  You can also get to know them better by visiting http://www.lewes-rehobothrotary.org.

NOTE:  Deadline for purchasing a sponsorship is today, Friday, May 23rd.  Call 302-645-5896.

Have a beautiful day!!

Winter Concert, Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes, Delaware, Southern Delaware Choral Society, Christmas Oratorio, J.S. Bach, Handel’s Messiah Sing-A-Long on Sunday, December 22nd in Lewes, Delaware Beaches

dscn6929

The location was the beautiful Cape Henlopen High School….Sunday afternoon we had the opportunity to get into the Holiday Spirit.  Many of us have had a very trying year, nevertheless, we carry the spirit of the season, reflecting, and yes, celebrating, as well.

It was the Winter Concert…Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach, presented by the Southern Delaware Choral Society, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

dscn6930

The Southern Delaware Choral Society is a cultural entity in Delaware, established in 1985.  The Society performs winter concerts in Georgetown and Lewes, Delaware, in the winter…spring concerts in Rehoboth Beach.  More info?  Please visit http://www.southerndelawarechoralsociety.org.

dscn6917

The Christmas Oratorio was such a special treat for us to enjoy these classic pieces of choral music.  Guest Conductor, Simeone Tartaglione, explained Johann Sebastian Bach to the audience.  J.S. Back composed the Christmas Oratorio for the Christmas Season in 1734-1735.

dscn6919

The English translation used by the Southern Delaware Choral Society was by the Revd. Dr. J. Troutbeck, who translated many of J.S. Bach’s works from the original German.

The beautiful voices, the musicians and most of all the Conductor gave us a something delightful today!!

dscn6924

Merry Christmas!

NOTE:  Handel’s Messiah Sing-A-Long will be next Sunday, December 22nd at 3 p.m. in the Hall at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, Delaware.
