The first week-end of August is here!!  Lewes is celebrating the first week-end of August with the following activities, events, and entertainment.

Saturday, 8/3 – The Lewes Historical Society Antique Show 2013 – 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  A 50th year celebration!  Location? The Historical Society Complex at the Corner of Second Street and Shipcarpenter Street.  Admission is $5 but children under 17 are free.  Proceeds benefit their educational and preservation programs.

The show features 18th century to early 20th century antiques.  All pieces are authentic.  The Antique Show takes place among the Society’s 12 historic museums.

Casa Amici will feature a food booth, Vitelli’s Ice Cream and water Ice will have refreshing treats.  Music by David Zipse.

Saturday, 8/3 – Sydney’s Music Revival takes place every Friday and Saturday at Bethany Blues Lewes.  Location?  18385 Coastal Highway.  Tonight Lil Ronie and the Grand Dukes.  Entertainment begins at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, 8/4 – Wake up with Yoga with Soul from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.  Yoga with Soul takes place every Sunday morning until September 1st.  Just bring your mat or towel.  Location?  At Canalfront Park on Front Stree.  It is free!!

Sunday, 8/4 – Noon until 2 p.m.  Kalmar Nyckle will be docked at the Cape May Lewes Ferry Terminal.  It is Delaware’s Ambassador.  They offer 2 1/2 hour public sails and deck tours.  Make reservations by calling 302-429-7447.  Or, visit http://www.kalmarnyckel.org.

Also, on Sunday, it will sail from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.  All sails are $60 and $40 for children 17 and under.

I thought I saw the sun coming out…let’s hope so since there are outdoor events to be enjoyed on this Saturday morning, besides the beach.  What a summer!! Days of rain, some sun, then back to the same old thing.  I feel your pain.

The Beaches are busy…so what’s going on today, 7/13/13?

MILTON

Milton Garden & House Tour – Throughout Milton, Delaware.  9 a.m. until 3 p.m.  8 private gardens in the Historic District and 3 in the Heritage Creek neighborhood.  In addition to 2 homes.  Admission is $20.  Please call 302-684-3804 or visit http://www.miltongardenclub.org.

LEWES

The 55th Annual Lewes Antique Show – 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.  It is sponsored by Bethel Church on 4th Street in Lewes.  There is air condition in the Hall.  More info?  302-645-8093.

The Lewes Historical Society’s Summer Craft Fair – 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  This fair is well known for the quality of the crafspeople including new and returning artists from across Delmarva and the tri-state area.  Admission is $5.  Children under 12 are free.  Proceeds will benefit educational and preservation programs at The Lewes Historical Society.  See the work of the fine artisans and listen to festive live music by Old & New Bluegrass.  Lunch by Casa Amici.  More info?  Please call 302-645-7670 or visit http://www.historiclewes.org.

REHOBOTH BEACH

Doggies at the Beach – Located at 18806 John J. Williams Hwy. (Rt. 24) this facility is my dog’s, Addy’s, home away from home.  Boarding, grooming, and training with a great staff that love pooches to death.  It’s true!!  Training classes are going on Saturdays until August 10th.  Stop by and check them out. And, if you are interested, make a reservation, pay and you are good to go.

Puppy Kindergarten – Puppies 16 weeks to 6 months with no prior training.  1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Basic Manners 101, Dogs 7 months and older 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

DEWEY BEACH

All Day Long – The Running of the Bull – The party starts early; only Dewey knows how to do this.  The Running of the Bull is around 1 p.m., after everyone has been partying for some time.  All leave The Starboard together.  Police will assit on crossing the highway.  I feel their pain too. Once on the beach….everyone together will charge the beach together…and must stay inside the orange cones while on the beach, haha…good luck. Officers will help you again to cross the road back to The Starboard because the party continues, since you have not been partying enough!!

There is more going on at the Delaware Beaches….these coming to mind on this cloudy Saturday a.m. as I sip my coffee!!  A must.

Lewes was named after the town of Lewes in England, which is also located in a county named Sussex, from which Sussex County takes its name.  They also have the same seal.

Historic Lewes is a gem and visitors can’t wait to come back and visit this town whose residents are friendly and have made sure Lewes keeps it charm and small town atmosphere.

Saturday, 8/4 – The Historic Farmers’ Market will be held on this day at Shields Elementary School at 910 Shields Ave. in Lewes.  8 a.m. until Noon.  Please do not bring pets.  More info?  Please visit http://www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.

Saturday, 8/4 – Lewes Historical Society’s Antique Show from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  The Lewes Historical Society celebrates its 49th Annual Antique Show.  Admission will be $5 per person, children under 12 are free.  If you wish to enter the show earlier than 9 a.m. for a sneak preview, then, the admission will be $15/person.  This event benefits educational preservation programs at The Lewes Historical Society.  For more info, please visit http://www.historiclewes.org.

Saturday, 8/4 – Lewes Night Out from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.  This event will be held at Blockhouse Pond/Smith Park, located at the corner of Park Ave. and Johnson Street in Lewes.  It is sponsored by the Lewes Police Dept., and it is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local crime efforts.  Residents in neighborhoods throughout Lewes and across the nation for National Night Out are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

Please call 1-800-643-3779.   The Crew of the Valhalla is a dangerous lot, planning to seize the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.  Led by the fierce Captain Charles Black…Historical and Theatrical entertainment for children and adults.  The crew is renowned for their realistic portrayal of pirates and sailors.  More info? Saturday, 8/11 – It is the 6th Annual Tomato Festival from 8 a.m. until Noon, at the Lewes Historical Society Complex located at 110 Shipcarpenter St.  Bring everyone to celebrate National Farmers Market Week.  Visit the tasting tent.  Learn the history and lore.  In May of 1883, the Supreme Court ruled that the tomato was not a fruit but a vegetable.  Visit http://www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.

Saturday, 8/11 – Delaware Lighthouse Festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Location?  On the Green at the Lewes Terminal of the Cape May Lewes Ferry, 43 Cape Henlopen Drive. Tuesday, 8/14 – Lewes Terminal Hosts “Phantoms of the Ferry”.  7:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., spend a night with the “Phantoms of the Ferry”.  The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has teamed up with Delmarva Historic Haunts, the lab group of Gettysburg Paranormal, to bring you a night of haunted history uncovering the mysterious past of long ago sailors.  Hundreds of unidentified sailors’ bodies washed ashore on the beaches of Lewes.  The land beneath the Lewes Ferry Terminal served as burial grounds for these lost seafarers, and some say they are still with us today.  Buffet dinner followed by a Paranormal 101 class.  Students will learn the skills it takes to be an investigator from a real, on the road crew.  $35 per person.  Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.  Reservations are recommended.  To reserve your tickets, please call our Customer Contact Center at 1-800-643-3779.

The beach towns in Delaware are adjacent to one another.  It is very easy to drive to one town or another and enjoy what each of them have to offer.  They all have something for everyone to enjoy.

This small, quaint town, offers so much to its visitors and residents.  There are shops, restaurants and the friendliest people.

This is what’s going on in Lewes this week-end:

Saturday, 8/6 – Historic Lewes Farmers’ Market.  This Saturday, the market will be at Shields Elementary School’s Parking Lot at Savannah Rd. & Sussex Drive.  Usually, it is at the Lewes Historical Society Complex.  For more info., please visit http://www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.

 

The Lewes Historic Farmers’ market is calling for Entries!! – 2011 Great Tomato Recipe Contest.  The National Farmers’ Market Week is August 7th until the 13th.  The Market will be holding their 5th Annual Tomato Festival on Saturday, 8/13th.  The Great Tomato Recipe Contest will be held that day.

Saturday, 8/6 – 48th Annual Antiques Show – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  This is the Historical Society’s oldest continuing tradition.  Many antique dealers from the Mid-Atlantic region will be attending.  The show attracts over 2,500 visitors.  Admission is $5.00 but children under 12 are free.  More info?  Please call 302-645-7670.  The Lewes Historical Society is located at 110 Shipcarpenter St.  The website is http://www.historiclewes.org.

Now you know why the Market is being held on Saturday at the parking lot at Shield’s Elementary.  The antique show is taking over the Historical Society Complex.

 

Saturday, 8/6 – The Villages of Five Points will be holding their live concert from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.  The entertainers?  33 1/3.  Bring your lawn chairs, a blanket, bug spray, your friends and family for this very popular outdoor event.

 

Sunday, 8/7 – DaBreak Lounge on the Ferry “Twin Capes” at 6:15 p.m.  The Mission of “Valhallas Pirates” is to present historical and theatrical entertainment to children and adults.  For more info., please visit http://www.capemaylewesferry.com.
