United By Blue, Coffee Shop, Retail Store, Accessories, Apparel, Camping, Online Shopping, Old City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,

A coffee shop experience is different for most everyone. I remember when I used to be petrified of going into Starbucks. How in the world do you order? I learned quickly…..A Venti, Cafe Mocha, Extra Hot, No Whip. That is my standard.

People watching is a must. Some are relaxing checking their texts. Others are rushing by.

When I was young I remember my grandmother always had coffee in the balcony in Puerto Rico, accompanied by the neighbors. It was a time to relax and talk. Really talk! You had to. There were no portable phones yet. Not even in the imagination of us mortals.

I was in Philadelphia last month and this city is perfect for foodies. It is also a paradise for good coffee shops. Are you a coffee snub? Then you are in the right city.

United By Blue started in Philadelphia in 2013. My son told me he was taking me to a very interesting coffee shop. Indeed it was! It is located at 205 Race St., Old City, Philadelphia 19106. Tel. 267-457-3114. Website? https://www.unitedbyblue.com/pages/flagship

United By Blue is local, so you probably won’t see too many tourists yet. Another location on Walnut Street.

Their coffee was excellent. You can do a little online shopping if you want to try something delicious.

A Breakfast sandwhich with home fries. The menu is online, as well. It was perfect for a cool morning in the City of Brotherly Love.

We all call our planet home and United By Blue is doing its part to help keep it clean. Their Mission? “For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from our World’s ocean and waterways.” To find out why please log onto the website above referenced.

Besides being a coffee shop, it is also a retail store. Apparel for men, women, including shoes. Camping gear too.

In the store there is copperwear to buy. I particularly liked the straws. I think you can see them in the following photo, inside the mugs.

Very interesting indeed. Read about them, join a cleanup and check past cleanups as well.

In the meantime, if you are in Philly and want to really be a neighborhood local, by all means stop by. Remember this company offers coffee, food, retail shopping but in their hearts it is an “enviornmental conservation organization”.

Follow them on Instagram ubb_phila and on FB as United By Blue.

Have a great day.

Christine’s Consignments, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Women’s Clothing, Men’s Clothing, Jewelry, Handbags, Shoes, Housewares, Resales, Modern, Chic, Consignment Shopping, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Rehoboth Beach Annual Sidewalk Sales are this Weekend!!

I have been on a roll….purging my closets, getting organized.  Why do we accummulate so much stuff?  It is true, that if you have not worn it or used it for a couple of years, then donate it to someone that can enjoy it. With that thought in mind and with the other thought that “someone’s trash is another person’s treasure”, I kept packing bag after bag.  The Thrift Shop at Midway Shopping Center on Coastal Highway was not taking anymore clothing; only shoes, bags and other items. There is another one on the Forgotten Mile run by the Episcopal Church.  Since then I have found out that there are plenty of other shops in the area. People have the same thoughts at this time of the year.

A few friends suggested I take some of my things to a consignment shop.  That they do and enjoy getting that extra cash in their pockets.  I started thinking about it and that is how I ended up calling Christine’s Consignments. This cute little shop is located at 200-A Rehoboth Ave., in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE. Tel. 302-226-1126.  If you decide you would like to take some of your treasures that you no longer need to Christine’s, please give them a call so that you can make an appointment.  At the time of the appointment you can bring your goodies so they can go through them. And please don’t take it personal if they don’t choose everything you brought that you thought was the best.  Seasonal things is what they want and they want them to be in good shape and worthy of resale.  If you keep that in mind you will do great.

Just like in any shop the clothing is divided in sections.  There are new arrivals and also designer clothing racks.

This weekend in Downtown Rehoboth Beach are the much awaited and very well attended Sidewalk Sales.  Hope you can make it.  All weekend long, you will be able to get tremendous discounts, and find fabulous accessories. These sales start today, Friday, May 18th and continue through Sunday, May 20th, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. but some store hours may vary.  Please check that out.  It is going to be a rainy weekend but do not worry those sales are here to stay. Tax free shopping in Delaware!!

Christine’s Consignments has another location at 42 Atlantic Ave., in Ocean View, near Bethany Beach. That telephone is 302-829-1425.

If you are bringing some of your treasures to Christine’s Consignments once they have gone through the items you will be given a number.  And you will also sign a very simple contract.  You should give them time to sell your items.  And, you can discuss with them what you would like to do if items are not sold.  They do donate to the local charities things that are not sold.

Like any other shop, items come and go quickly.  The inventory is always changing.  So probably is not one of those shops that you would likely say “I have been there already”.  Always something new at very good prices. You are spending time at the beach and let’s say you forgot your accessories, Christine’s Consignments would be perfect to grab that item that will finish your look.

I hope you have a great weekend.  Good luck finding your treasures!! Give them a chance second time around!

Rooster’s Nest, Bayville Shopping Center, West Fenwick Island, Shopping, Fine Gifts, Jewelry, Home Furnishings, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Locally Owned, Tax Free Shopping

In 2006 Rooster’s Nest opened its doors and it has become a must stop kind of a shop.  It is located at the Bayville Shopping Center on 37244 Lighthouse Rd., #108 in West Fenwick Island.  Easy to get to from all Delaware Beaches and Ocean City, Maryland.  Tel 302-436-1848.  Website?  http://www.roostersnest.com.

The Propietors are Sally Welsh and Bill Shoemaker.  You can find find gifts, home furnishing and one of a kind pieces.  All under one roof with very good price points.

So the other day I took a trip from Rehoboth to see what they were showing for Easter.  Weather is getting warmer, thank God, and Spring is here!!  That means a lot of us might want to refresh that certain room in the house, or buy something for friends’ birthdays; plenty of weddings are coming up.  Sally told me that they had just finished redoing the store.  The calm colors on the walls and the repositioning of furniture, it actually, makes it look bigger.  They have so many neat things.

Sally pointed to me these birdhouses she had just gotten in. And the little shoes that could be displayed in so many ways.

Love the forever greenery.  This is new to the store.

Paper placemats and table runners.  Are they are trend or are they here to stay?  They are sold in pads and there is so much to choose from for every occasion.  They look great and they are not that expensive, either.  You can use them daily, for small gatherings or big affairs.  And, they can transform a table from boring to super fun and elegant, as well.  And when finished, just throw them away.  Rooster’s Nest has some really fun ones.  They also have table runners.

Rooster’s Nest has a new line of bags….Katie Loxton from London. So affordable. Good looking too.  Fun, small bags that convey a message to a special friend, a mother, and for bridesmaids.

I toured the store with nothing in mind to buy but ended up getting a few things.  You cannot resist the tempetation.  Love the colors of blues for the summer.

The line of jewelry by Julie Vos is beautiful.  It is a little bit more pricey and the reason for that is that they are made of semi-precious stones, pearls and imported glass.  It is hand-set in 24k gold plate so it will not tarnish.  Made in the U.S.A.  The right accessory can make of break an outfit.  Keep that in mind.

Wishing you a very Happy Easter!!

Shopping, The Spice & Tea Exchange, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Salts, Spices, Sugars, Accessories, Happy 2nd Anniversary!!, Taste & Learn Chef Series, Shop Downtown Rehoboth, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn4192

Happy 2nd Year Anniversary!!  When The Spice & Tea Exchange opened in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, at 10 Rehoboth Avenue, this was going to be the first franchise opened in our small state.  Great location, ocean block!!  Since then, I have seen visitors and locals, like myself, stop and shop in a store that for those that like to cook is a must stop shop.  Tel. 302-227-3327.  Website?  http://www.spiceandtea.com/rehoboth.  They open every day, but at this time of the year, they close on Wednesdays.

dscn4185dscn4172

This winter they started the Taste & Learn Series with demonstrations by local chefs.  Only two more of those series are left.  Taking place on Mondays….March 30th with Chef Betty Burleigh of Dinner is Served, and April 20th with Chef Hari Cameron of a(MUSE).  Starter, entree, and dessert!!  $35/person or $60/couple  6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Call them up and make a reservation!

dscn4175

Cooking should be from the heart; it should not be rushed.  The right amount of spice adding flavor to the recipes should be such that it will not overpower your creation.  Your meal should not be ordinary, or boring….it should be extraordinary.  And, when my brother gets his birthday present next week he will be getting tons of spices, salts, sugars and rubs… he will be spicing things up in Florida!! He loves to cook!!

dscn4177

dscn4180

dscn4183

Love their rice too.  Different and eye catching.

dscn3313

I am not a hot tea drinker but they do have an excellent variety of loose teas for those that love a hot cup of tea….like my friend, Debbie.

dscn4178

dscn4179

I first stepped into The Spice & Tea Exchange on Mizner Park in Boca Raton, Florida.  I was impressed then.  Happy to have it in Rehoboth Beach….just visited one in Charleston, South Carolina.  Even though it is a franchise, each has their own individuality.  The staff is friendly and very helpful.  They blend spices and herbs to customize. They are very knowledgeable of the products they sell.  The Black Lava salt is so different.  They told me that is a good finisher salt.  Great on steaks.  It contains sea salt and activated charcoal.  The salt is dried in lava beds.  On the second photo you can see it on the top shelf.

dscn3302dscn4189

In ancient times salt was valuable.  Roman soldiers were paid in salt.  The payments were called “salarium”.  Salt was and still is a preservative.

The Himalayan Salt Stones intrigue me.  I have never cooked with them, but always look at them when shopping at their store.  They can be heated, or chilled to any extreme temperature.  Wash it after each use; not need for detergent.  Awesome conversation piece for a party.

dscn4174

My “Pilon” is what is known as a mortar.  I come from Puerto Rico and the pilon used for almost everything is made out of wood.   But, apparently there is a difference…if you use a marble one, that’s very good for crushing whole spices.  The one made out of wood, like I use, is mainly for crushing sauces…garlic too, well, that’s what I do.  The ceramic one is mostly used in Europe.  Perfect for crushing fresh spices.  The Mexican favorite is the molcajete….avocados!!

dscn4188dscn4187

I found out the website has recipes that look pretty good.  Please visit http://www.spiceandtea.com/recipes-c-54.html.

So, as you stroll, and enjoy your time in Downtown Rehoboth Beach…..stop by and say hello.

I am not sure if you are ready for shopping or not, but stores are open.  Historic Charleston offers great shopping for everyone.  If your husband decides that shopping is not his cup of tea on this trip, there are a few places you can park him.

dscn3750

Or if you are traveling with your pooch….have your husband or significant other take him to the dog park and meet other Charleston dogs, while you engage in something a little more interesting.

dscn3727

C’est La Vie of Charleston we found on 108 N. Market St.  Tel. 843-212-5744.  The owner opened the store last year and is ready for the prime months that Historic Charleston offers its visitors.  Good weather, plenty of restaurants, history, shopping….the town, I hear is starting to bloom.  You can find C’est La Vie of Charleston on Facebook.  Check it out because you can get 10% off purchases until 3/17.

dscn3667

The store is eclectic in the sense that you can find gifts for someone special, or just something to thank a friend.  Having a party?  Cards, napkins, place cards, cups for an event, or just because.

dscn3668

dscn3670

We fell in love with these beads.  They are called Chew Beads.  They are perfect for the summer.  We just did not realize that they are also chewing beads for your little ones.  Mothers, grandmothers you can be in style with these ones.

dscn3666dscn4081

It’s springtime and time to refresh, or update.

Shopping!! Lori & Lulu, Charleston, South Carolina, Women’s Apparel, Sandals, Accessories, A Post for Women Only

dscn3805

You know, I cannot understand how I have been shopping all my life, and still have nothing to wear!

If my posts this week are from Charleston, South Carolina, is because I was there for a whole week.  So much to learn about this Historic City.  Southern Living Magazine’s March issue says that there is no better time than to be in Charleston at this time of the year.  I was just a little too early.  Nothing in bloom and a little cold.  They told us that the best months are March, April, May and October.  Nevertheless, my cousin and I managed to take advantage of our time….including stopping at some of the shops.

dscn3814dscn3810

I am ready for summer weather.  Living in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, our style is very Relaxed and Coastal Chic.  And, so we found Lori & Lulu located at 231 King Street in Charleston.  King St. is known as the Fashion District of Charleston, but plenty of other streets offer shops and galleries that appeal to every visitor.

dscn3801dscn3811

Charleston, Amelia Island and Raleigh, that’s where you can find Lori & Lulu.  Focusing on the shop in Charleston, the tel. is 843-579-9295.  For the latest shopping events, please find them on all social media outlets, including Facebook.  The website is not completely set up, but you can click on http://www.lorilulu.com, and find out what brands they carry and other info.  Best would be to check them on Facebook as mentioned above.  Like something?  Call them up.

dscn3792

The Charleston store opened last year.  Some of the articles mentioned that it is a crossover store, that it serves women that want to wear stylish clothing at any age.  I found it to be so.  There is something for everyone, including some bubbles for your pet.

dscn3802dscn3803

Southern hospitality was extended to us everywhere we went.  And the ladies at Lori & Lulu were great.  Very friendly, knowing their products so well.

Let’s go shopping!  The importance of the right accessories.  They can either make or break what you are wearing.

Best Nest, Home Furnishings, Cape Charles, Virginia, Art, Accessories, Linens, Rugs, Furniture, Design Services in Cape Charles, Virginia’s Eastern Shore

dscn1393

My friend, Cindi, and I have never met strangers.  It ended up being that the owners of Best Nest in Downtown Cape Charles were originally from the Bethany Beach and Selbyville…Delaware area.  Small world.  We arrived at the store because we wanted to say hi to someone from back home.  Best Nest is located at 7 Strawberry Street, Cape Charles, VA 23310.  Tel. 757-331-4437.  Website?  http://www.bestnest.net.  You can find them on Facebook as Best Nest Home Furnishings.

This is a fairly new location for them….but the store already looked so pretty and it felt like it had been there forever.  They open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Closed on Tuesdays.  Sundays by appointment.

dscn1387

John and Nikki are the owners and they offer many years of experience to their customers.   Their projects can be large or small, and both are very comfortable working with a variety of budgets, tastes and personalities.

dscn1388

dscn1389
