Not having gone out of the house all day, on Saturday, we decided to take a drive through Rehoboth Ave. I could not believe how crowded it was. It had been a rainy day, but at this time of the evening, the weather had cleared, and visitors were ready to start their evening.
Downtown Rehoboth Beach is a very walkable town; restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues are at close proximity.
We decided to stop at Fins located at 243 Rehoboth Avenue. Tel. 302-226-FIN. Website? www.finsrawbar.com.
We just wanted a few drinks and some of their delicious oysters and clams. It is a full fledge restaurant, but we chose their Bar. It had a cozy atmosphere; crowded. The saying “where everyone is your friend”, fits them perfectly.
Fins has two floors for dining, but, you can also eat at the bar.
It is well known for the seafood, but the restaurant offers beef and chicken dishes from local purveyors, as well. Sandwiches like lobster rolls, po’ boys, crabcakes; and hamburgers, soups you name it. A description of their dishes are found on the website. But, better yet, pay them a visit. They are open 7 days a week for dinner starting at 4:00 p.m. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Fins opens for lunch, as well, from 11:30 until 4:00 p.m.
We came in and immediately decided to check their oyster menu. It changes all the time, with Fins, offering the freshest oysters available. Oysters are inspected right after they have been shucked. No way are you going to get a bad oyster here.
The beer board was up offering also custom crafted beers. To the right you can see percentages of the alcohol level found in each.
A little conversation here or there with some of the patrons…it was time to order some oysters. The first oysters ordered were Blue Points; plump, meaty and sweet.
The next oysters ordered were the White Caps. These oysters were smaller but so delicious. Salty, which is the way we like them.
I decided to go with steamed clams. I love raw oysters but really do enjoy the clams, as well. These clams were so good; small and tasty. More than a dozen were ordered.
Having satisfied our cravings, we decided to go home. It was getting to the point when plenty of diners were arriving. This restaurant is one of those neighborhood restaurants that can mingle their more matured customers with the younger crowd. It really was fun to watch.
Have a great day!!

From time to time a friend drags me just like I might drag her….off we go; out and about. Jody and I took to the streets in Rehoboth Beach to have lunch at Dogfish Head. That post comes later. From there we stopped at a jewelry store that appeared on AboutMyBeaches in 2009. I liked it then, and that has not changed a bit.
Heidi Lowe, The Jewelry Studio is located at 328 Rehoboth Ave. Tel. 302-227-9203. Website? www.heidilowejewelry.com.
Heidi was an emerging artist in high school. After so many years she has come to be a full blown artist, whose designs are contemporary, whimsical, and at times, a little bold.
Different exhibits can be found at her Gallery year-round. At present she has an exhibit, Multiples, from various artists from all over the country showing unconventional pieces that are unique and never boring.
Besides being an artist and designer, Heidi also teaches. In the past she has taught at The Rehoboth Art League. At Towson University, in Maryland, you will find her one day a week teaching metalsmithing. A metalsmith, also called a smith, uses metal as a material for making objects.
She also teaches at her Studio. Classes can be held privately or semi-privately. Some of her students have been working hard for years. They are making very unique designs.
Heidi welcomes commissions, as well; engagement rings, wedding rings, wedding party gifts. A custom piece you might have in mind.
Upcoming Events – June 9th until August 6th stay tuned for the 6th Annual Earrings Galore Exhibition, which will feature earrings made by artists all over the country; wide range of styles and formats.
August 11th until October 8th – Desire is a critical art jewelry exhibit. The contrasting work of Jimin Park, Courney Kemp, and Lauren Griffiths. Curated by Megan Romero.
At present, hours of operation are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Or, by appointment by calling 302-841-0908.
Note: She will not be opening on Friday, March 2nd due to a workshop at Cape Henlopen High School. Also, she will not be opening on March 15th due to a German Trade Show.

I love easy casseroles, they are so versatile and good, as well. For example, take this scalloped corn casserole. It is, basically, assembled in no time. You can use it for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner.
Guest for breakfast? Then, add eggs to it and fresh fruit. Brunch or lunch? Chicken, tuna or any salad you may want. Dinner? As an addition for barbecued meats or even for a meatless dinner, adding a vegetable and a green salad.
Your choice. And, it is one of those recipes that can easily be doubled.
The only thing I changed in this recipe was the cracker crumbs. I needed to use gluten free crackers, which I did.
Scalloped Corn
4 cups fresh, frozen or canned corn
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup crushed saltines (30 crackers), divided
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
Salt and pepper to taste
Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine the corn, eggs, milk, 3/4 cup cracker crumbs, butter, sugar, onion, salt and pper.
Transfer to a greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining cracker crumbs.
Baked, uncovered for 1 hour or until knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Depending how hungry your crowd is, this recipe probably will serve 6.
How easy can that be!! Enjoy and make it your own.
Note: Thanks Paula for the corn. You saved me a trip to the grocery store!!
