B & Bs are found in all sates, from modest cottages to opulent mansions…the Addy Sea is located at 99 Ocean View Parkway in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Tel. 302-539-3707. Website? http://www.addysea.com.
The Addy Sea was the 4th of 5 houses built by John M. Addy from Pittsburgh, PA. It was one of the first homes to have indoor plumbing in Bethany. Circa 1902. In 1935, it was turned into a guest house. At the present time, it operates as an adult B & B.
It is a venue for weddings and other celebrations. They have their own catering service, as well. Already, reservations for 2016 weddings are taking place for the months of May, June, September, and October. So, if you like what you see on this post and are planning an event, give them a call.
Up and down the Delaware Beaches you will find a beach that will suit you and your family. Having have lived in Bethany Beach for many years, the beaches here are wide and so unobstructed. Some get a little crowded at the height of the season and others, just like this one at the Addy Sea’s edge, is the perfect place to park yourselves.
The Addy Sea has a Victorian exterior with cedar shingles and trimmed lacy gingerbread. Indoors, 13 guestrooms, Victorian, as well.
Love the wrap aound porch at the Addy Sea. Rocking on those rocking chairs, reading a book, having a drink….enjoying one gorgeous day at the beach.
The Delaware Beaches are getting ready for the season. Coming to the beach, leaving the city behind. Casual attire, sand between your toes….you know what I mean. I live here, love it, and do not take it for granted!!

Everyone loves to come to the Beach. The Delaware Beaches have become a destination for fundraising events. Who doesn’t want to get out of town for a few days? Spring is in the air and so are the events that help others in need.

Polycystic Kidney disease, as it is known, is an inherited disease in which fluid-filled cysts develop and enlarge in both kidneys, eventually leading to kidney failure. At present, there is no treatment or cure. Dialysis or a kidney transplant is the only lifesaving option. Approximately 1 in 500 or 1,900 Delawareans may be affected. Funds raised through charitable events go to research to find a cure. PKD is one of the most common life-threatening genetic disorders.

Back in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, since visiting Historic Charleston for a week, I have had time to go through about 465 photos. It was my first experience in Charleston, a place that I had wanted to visit for a long time but for one reason or another had not.
When my cousins from Puerto Rico invited me to meet them in Charleston, it was because there was a pathology convention to attend. Onboard and looking forward I arrived at the Belmond Charleston Place, located at 205 Meeting St., Tels. 843-722-4900 and 888-635-2350. Website http://www.belmond.com/charleston-place.
Checking in was so smooth. My room was at the newly renovated floor of the hotel. New softer colors in all the rooms. Everyone wants to know how comfy the beds were…they were very comfortable.
Having been on the road and arriving at a new city, I decided to just stay put and try their in-room dining. Don’t let my healthy eating for that night fool you for a minute. I dove easily into the local food without regret. The brussels sprouts were delish and so was my salad….the fruit was my sweet ending….the butter, smooth and a bit sweet.
Something sweet!
A touch of color was much appreciated.
If you would like to start your first morning having breakfast at the hotel, the Palmetto Cafe will be your place. A healthy breakfast buffet or a la carte.
Charleston Place, as it is commonly called, is large enough for events, weddings…you name it. It does not feel that big, but it is. Plenty of shopping within the hotel. The business office was a plus.
In every corner of the City of Charleston there is plenty to see. History abounds. Throughout the week we walked, shopped and dined. The beauty is that you can stroll downtown with ease. Stop and check the alleys, the houses, and the cobblestone streets.
Every day we found something new. Look at the Dock Street Theatre. This was the first building in America built exclusively for theatrical performances. Many years ago it was restored. The inside was rebuilt to resemble a theatre in London in the 1730s. It is used year-round. Location? 135 Church Street. http://www.charlestonstage.com
In the evening the Thoroughbred Club at Charleston Place gets hopping. I already posted about it. Tapas Bar setting…Do not miss Calvin (Deke) Taylor, The Entertainer, playing some pretty good jazz.
I almost forgot to give Carrie, the Concierge a shout!! She was awesome and got us set up with Ian Sanchez for our tour of Middleton Plantation among other suggestions, as well. Thanks Carrie!
Talk to you later…have a great day!

My stay in Historic Charleston, South Carolina, took even longer when my flight was cancelled on Sunday, 3/1. Too bad, to be “stuck” in this historic city for a couple more days. My accommodations for those 2 nights were at the Meeting Street Inn. It is located at 173 Meeting St. Tels. 843-723-1882 and 800-842-8022 Website? http://www.MeetingStreetInn.com
Meeting Street Inn was built in the style of the Charleston single house around 1873. The “Charleston Single” was built from 1740s to the late 1800s. The lots are narrow and the porches were called piazzas by the English. The porches also served as hallways for air circulation.
My cousin and I had eyed this inn during our stay. We even stopped by to check the rooms. I thought that on another trip this would be a nice place to stay. It is within walking distance to everything you want to do in Historic Charleston. They do have a small shuttle that could take you around anywhere you would like to go in town if you don’t feel like walking.
So as I sat at the Charleston Airport wondering what to do…..a call, a reservation, and I was good to go.
Checking into the Meeting Street Inn was easy. The staff was so nice and ready to help in any way. The bed was most comfortable.
Sunday was not a nice day but Monday turned out to be the best day of the week. The Meeting Street Inn has a small pool and also outdoor seating for R & R.
Great to enjoy the outdoors early in the a.m. with coffee and breakfast which by the way is included or wine and appetizers in the evening, also included.
The breakfast is served from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Hot and cold breakfast service…fruits cereals, buns, etc. etc.
In the evenings wine, cheese and refreshments for the guests from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Appetizers including the ever present Charleston Cheese Spread which is pimento cheese spread.
I really enjoyed it and until next time….thanks to the Meeting Street Inn staff.

Discovering Charleston at our own pace. Walking, dining, shopping and being just tourists is not a bad thing. I had being told that The Vendue’s Rooftop Bar offers great drinks and one such drink is the Lavender Martini. And, no we did not try it….maybe next time. What we did find is that this boutique hotel is the only hotel in Historic Charleston that is considered an Art Hotel. There are exhibits and even an Artist in Residence Program. The art is for sale. In the next photo if you can see it up close, the sculpture is made out of watches.
The Vendue is located in Charleston’s French Quarter at 19 Vendue Range and 26 Vendue Range. Yes, 2 properties one in front of the other. Tel. 843-577-7970 Website? http://www.thevendue.com There are 45 rooms at 19 Vendue Range and 39 guests rooms at 26 Vendue Range. These were warehouse buildings that date to 1780. The restaurant called The Drawing Room is elegant with the beautiful chandeliers that are seen all over Charleston.
Having a few drinks and then curious to see the art housed at The Vendue, we were invited to walk and admire the artwork.
This particular sculpture is made out of bullets.
Across the street the art exhibits continued.
Meet Fred Jamar, who at present and for months has been the Artist in Residence at The Vendue.
The photo above was taken by my cousin Maru….Fred graciously let us take photos. The one on the botton is from one of his paintings of Frat Houses on George St.. Oil on Canvas.
He is a Belgian Artist and will be the first one to tell you that his life has been a journey of discovery. He has been many things and has enjoyed them all. A very interesting life but he says that if he had to do it all over again…a painter always, he would have been.
To visit the studio or commission an oil painting you may call 843-762-5770 or email fredjamar@bellsouth.net. His website is http://www.fredpaintings.com. To buy a painting call or visit RLS on Queen St., Tel. 843-805-8052. Website http://www.rlsart.com.
Discovering Charleston….will continue later.

Walking on Ashford in Condado is a past time for many that are visiting the island of Puerto Rico….plenty of upscales shops, restaurants, and hotels on this very popular Ave. I hear the community is involved in making sure Condado lives up to its name.
Ashford Avenue is within walking distance of beaches and everything else to make your vacation a special one. As a matter of fact Ashford Avenue is parallel to the beach. Taxis, and public transportation can take you to Old San Juan, a city over 500 years old.
The Art Deco Buildings are beautiful and one in particular is the Miami building located at 868 Ashford Avenue and built in 1936. The colors are peach and light blue.
“The Art Deco style represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress.” Bold geometric designs, lavish ornamentation, and colours characterized this style.
Congratulations to San Juan, Puerto Rico since the National Register of Historic Places has recognized 3 iconic hotels and has welcomed them as members. They are the Caribe Hilton San Juan, built in 1949, Condado Plaza Hilton built in 1963 and the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel built in 1919.
The Condado Vanderbilt is located at 1055 Ashford Avenue. http://www.condadovanderbilt.com The style? Mission/Spanish Revival. This is a 5 star hotel, known for luxury and special services. Ballrooms, banquet meetings…the hotel is oceanfront. So, I stopped to check it out with my Puertorican cousins, Sonia, and Margie. Resort wear is the choice for dressing.
The hotel has been updated completely. The marble floors, I believe are the original ones.
We stepped into the Vanderbilt Court…here are some of the photos.
Please visit http://www.condadovanderbilt.com/our-story-condado-en.html to learn more about the history of this gorgeous hotel, which is very interesting.
LOCALISTA – Puerto Rico Disena. Location? Condado Vanderbilt Hotel.
A must stop shop for everything designed by independent designers. Local brands and Puertorican designers, promoted by Localista. Website? http://www.puertoricodisena.com. Catching our attention…..
La Mantilla by Marx Rosado is a modular surface that works well as a wood carpet, a flexible parquet, a non-permanent wood flooring or a cover for horizontal and vertical surfaces. It is open modular assembly.
Jewelry by Marcia Budet. You can find Marcia Budet on Facebook as Designer Marcia Budet.
The clutches made in crystal clear acrylic Plexiglass with original photography, I loved. They were made by designer Natalia Subira.
Promoting Puertorican designs, buying local…http://www.puertoricodisena.com/localista-a-design-store.
And then, as you come out of the hotel head over to Ventana al Mar….and forget that is winter at home. Have a good one!!

Darling….You look Marvelous!! The Breakers Palm Beach, located at One South County Rd., Palm Beach, FL 33480 is turning 119 years old today!! This iconic hotel has so much history. It has gone through ups and downs…a life well lived and continues to do so, getting better as the years go by.
In November I stayed at The Breakers with my friend, Cindi, for a couple of days. Having a few posts left to be published on our amazing days, pampered with impeccable service, what better day than on its birthday to finish my posts? In Rehoboth Beach the sun is out and it looks like it should be 80 degrees. Oh, no. Thirty degrees, I think. That’s okay, the Delaware Beaches are year-round regardless of the weather. I am just visualizing, that’s all!!
Even though The Breakers has plenty of restaurants available to guests and the public, they also have a couple of restaurants that are only for their Guests and Club Members.
Poolside Dining? The Ocean Grill was our choice for lunch. Beautiful views, outdoor dining, watching the palm trees do their thing. By the way, The Ocean Grill has a Gluten Free Menu!!
We had an appetizer of Avocado Fries. Avocado spears lightly fried.
Maine Lobster Roll. Lobster on a butter toasted brioche bun. The Avocado Fries were so good…a side order of those, as well.
And, a Lobster Club Salad is what I wanted, with bacon, avocado, tomatoes, celery and a light vinaigrette dressing.
And what could something so simple be so good? Warm chocolate chips cookies and milk for dunking for our sweet ending.
For more information about The Breakers Palm Beach, please visit http://www.thebreakers.com.
Talk to you later!!

It is past midnight as I write this post. I am wondering if my plane will be on time. Southern Delaware is being hit with one of those Mid Atlantic n’or easters. Nasty weather event!!
So I started thinking about that Bungalow at The Breakers Palm Beach….what a setting! Warm breezes, swaying palm trees, personal service. Visualization, that’s what I am doing.
The Breakers Palm Beach is located at One South County Rd., Palm Beach, FL 33480 Tel. 561-659-8488, or, 888-273-2537. Website? http://www.thebreakers.com
There are 4 pools at the Breakers Palm Beach for guests and club members. They are all gorgeous.
At poolside? Yes, the beach by its side, as well, and two restaurants. But Cindi and I were looking for Bungalow 15…The Reef.
These bungalows are only for the hotel guests and club members, as well. They are about 300 to 400 square feet. Do you like to lounge? Take in the scenery? This is a real treat.
Private patios, living room, refrigerator, flat screen t.v., bathroom, well appointed with spa necessities…..and food. Some, not all have open sky showers….ours did.
The idea is to relax, to just stay at the water’s edge and enjoy your well deserved vacation.
Molly, our personal concierge, received us with fruits and a something to quench our thirst.
So, the girls in the next Bungalow were having a nice time…then a delivery of red roses, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries….the giggles and the excitement of a birthday surprise by a significant other. They told us at The Breakers that nothing is impossible to make your dreams come true at The Breakers Palm Beach!
Still pouring…..and still dreaming….Have a Good One!!
