Another gorgeous day in the Delmarva Peninsula with a main event beginning today in Historic Lewes, Delaware.  It is the 4th Annual Tulip Festival.  At times tulips tend to have a mind of their own.  I think this year the tulips are taking their time….sort of making us wait for their amazing beauty.  The festival is all week-end long.

For the first 3 years, Lewes in Bloom members and other community volunteers manually planted all the tulips, more than 10,000 bulbs in the City’s parks and public spaces.  Fulton Bank’s generous sponsorship of this year’s festival enabled them to have the tulips planted by a local landscaping company, therefore, allowing them to expand the festival’s marketing initiatives.

The original tulips planted were red (Tulip Parade Red), and white (Tulip Cream Jewel), and blue Muscari bulbs to showcase a red, white and blue theme; colors of both the Dutch and American flags.  They have also planted 700 bulbs of 28 different varieties, creating a tulip library, appropriately located at the Lewes Public Library.

The Tulip Trolley Tours are $10 and reservations can be made by calling the Lewes Chamber of Commerce at 302-645-8073.  The Tulip Trolley tours will take place Thursday, 4/11 at 11:15 a.m., and 12:45 p.m. and Friday, 4/12, and Saturday, 4/13 at 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.  More info?
