The Smyrna Diner, Smyrna, Delaware, Nowhere near AboutMyBeaches, Restaurant, Review

I felt like it was a scene from storm chasers.  Going north from the Delaware Beaches, to Philadelphia, to be exact, caught us in a mess of traffic, rain, and threatening clouds.  I said to Michael; do you want to stop at the Smyrna Diner?  They have scrapple.  Did I have to ask?

I was looking for the same diner that years ago I had visited.  I knew they had a scrapple sub. Hmm; where the heck were they?  I missed the new Smyrna Diner.  Not because it was small, but probably because I did not expect to see a very modern looking building with a large Diner sign in front of it.  I immediately, got skeptical.

The Smyrna Diner is located at 99 South Cory Lane.  If you are traveling north or south on Rt. 1, then get off on Exit 114.  The diner will be off of Rt. 13 North.  You can check their website, www.smyrnadiner.com. If you did not know the old diner, there is a picture of it in the website.

As you come in, you can still feel the diner atmosphere, but, definitely the place is totally different.  It is a large restaurant.

Michael ordered a scrapple sandwich with eggs and cheese on a hard roll.  That’s how they serve a scrapple sandwich.  Maybe I imagined that it was a huge sub roll.

I ordered, with a straight face, chicken fried steak, which I was told had country fries, bread, eggs (any style), and gravy.  Our waitress looked at me a little skeptical but, no, I held my own and told her that’s what I wanted.

I was not about to order a white egg omelette; hold everything that is good and tasty.  For crying out loud, I was in a diner.

Michael reassured me and told me not to feel guilty.  That it did not look that big.  Okay.

It is now late in the evening as I write this post, and I am so guilty….I am not getting on that scale for anything in the world.  I would probably have a total depression.  I think tomorrow might be a good day to visit the new gym and sign up for some zumba classes.  That’s an idea!!

By the way, the food?  Let’s say I had higher expectations….

I will let you know how it goes…talk to you later….
