I am celebrating everything outdoors. Gorgeous weather in Delmarva. To tell you the thruth, I do not mind picking weeds. I, actually, find it therapeutic!! Well, what can I say. For many, gardening is a hobby. It is peaceful and rewarding. You do not have to wait long to see the garden flourish.
We all need help from garden centers. Tomato Sunshine is located at 18791 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Tel. 302-226-9533. Website? http://www.tomatosunshine.com. They are a one stop does it all type of gardening center. Everything needed to make your garden prosper, as well. Ask questions, they are always happy to help.
Every year I say I am simplifying my garden. I don’t want to spend hours watering. A few trips to Tomato Sunshine and I am almost finished. This year I have bought ferns, hibiscus, soil, herbs. I will still be watering.
Tomato Sunshine is a happy place. And, next time you stop, just listen….their music is getting pretty good, too! You might event dance a few steps while picking out local produce. At the present time the tomatoes are coming from Florida. It won’t be long when everything is local!! Local means good, fresh, and delish!!
Fig trees have been hit hard in the past 2 years. They have plenty of fig trees in case you are trying to replace the ones that did not make it.
Vibrant pottery and yard ornamentals.
Tomato Sunshine is open 7 days a week. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Stop by energize and uplift yourselves with the power of flowers. Cozy corners show some of the patio furniture.

September 29th, 2013
I can see why there is so much traffic when the height of the season is long gone!! The Second Season at the Delaware Beaches brings gorgeous weather, restaurant specials, events, and no parking meters!!
Today is another one of those days, just like yesterday when I took off for the north side of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. It was about 8:30 a.m. and I was meeting Alice. A few were already getting ready for a relaxing morning of fishing; others were walking the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is one mile long each way. This is an award winning Boardwalk, originally built in 1873!! It is the perfect place to renew in the a.m…..the salt air, the ocean breezes, and good company. Locals touch each end of the Boardwalk to make sure they have accomplished their walk.
A weekly stop at Tomato Sunshine is a favorite, as well. At this time of the year,…”produce great pumpkins, the pies will follow later.” The seasons bring so many colorful changes to Tomato Sunshine. It is located at 19791 Coastal Highway. If you are leaving Rehoboth Beach, you will see it on your right. If you are coming into Rehoboth, it will be on your left. They are open, at this time of the year, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tel. 302-226-2533. Website? http://www.tomatosunshine.com.
They have jams, fruit, vegetables, and fresh bread, besides all the pumpkins, as well.
Tomato Sunshine is ready for Fall. Check out what they have, don’t miss it. It is a happy place!! So, if you are looking for a specific type of pumpkin…go no further. Ernie might even tell you how to cook some of them.
Have a Good One!!

An impending hurricane upon us and we were playing games. Did you know that Southern Delaware is referred to as “slower lower”? We take our time when doing things. We will get to them; not in a rush, though.
With that thought in mind, I think the Weather Channel was so surprised we were not moving faster. Well, we had things to attend; Sea Witch and a fundraising event for the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department were on the top of the list. And, even though Sunday is not going to be a good day for Sea Witch, they at least got 2 days of it.
I had to stop to see what they were doing at Tomato Sunshine. Remember them? I have been putting tons of pumpkin and mum pictures. Tomato Sunshine is located at 19791 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach. Tel. 302-226-9533. Website? http://www.tomatosunshine.com.
Once again, they brought a smile to my face.
Carve a pumpkin for $10. Proceeds going to the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department.
Then, they were getting them up on the tower for a lighting in the evening.
It was family time and the guys were loving the bowling with pumpkins. Two bowling lanes.
The little ones were having fun too.
And these two? They were so funny and silly!!
Enjoying one beautiful day in Rehoboth Beach, regardless of what is waiting for us in the next few days. Talk to you later.

They catch your attention and are part of the fun during fall…I am talking about pumpkins. So many varieties this year. Most pumpkins are orange because of the high content of lutein, and alpha-beta-carotene. I love seeing them along with the gorgeous mums, cabbages and everything Fall and Witchy!!
If you have been coming to the beach on our Second Season, I am sure you have driven by Tomato Sunshine. You cannot miss it. It is a giant pumpkin patch at this time of the year. Believe me, I know. I stop several times a week. Tomato Sunshine is so full of color, you cannot help but feel good. It is located at 19791 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. 19971. Tel. 302-226-9533. Website? http://www.tomatosunshine.com.
So when I stopped today I noticed that the cabbages are getting that deeper color. It was a bit chilly today and just perfect to walk around the market.
By the way, the Farm Market within Tomato Sunshine will be open through October 31st. Tomato Sunshine opens Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The tomatoes still looked beautiful.
Plenty of Concord Grapes
Plenty of other root veggies, onions, squashes.
Tomato Sunshine will be fundraising for the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department on the week-end of October 26 – 28th which is the Sea Witch Festival. A scaffolding has been donated by Gran Rental Station to build the pumpkin tower that will light the night skyline on Rt. 1 (Coastal Highway). Pumpkin donation is $10 per pumpkin. To reserve your pumpkin, please e-mail your info. to info@tomatosunshine.com. You can also e-mail ernie@tomatosunshine.com. Or, call 302-226-9533 for more details. You can check Tomato Sunshine’s Facebook page, as well. And, feel free to also visit their website above mentioned. More info. will be on those sites this week.
Ernie told me that there is a very good pumpkin this year at Tomato Sunshine. It is called the Buttercup. It is a winter squash with a sweet and nutty flesh. Easy to cook too.
It seems that Tomato Sunshine has a slightly different look every day. You can always find something new. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. They are very helpful. If you need fire wood, check the website.
The following pumpkins are called Blue Hubbards. People love them. They are perfect for pies.
Don’t forget the winter pansies!!
Have a great day!! Talk to you later…

Tomato Sunshine changes with the season. I love stopping by. It is very close to my home. To tell you the truth, at times I just pull in and walk around. The flowers are gorgeous, the produce is amazing. It all puts a smile on my face.
Tomato Sunshine is located at 19791 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Tel. 302-226-9533. Website? http://www.tomatosunshine.com. If you are vacationing, please stop in. Ernie and Donna are the owners and either one or the other is always there. Any questions you might have, just ask because everyone is so helpful. I always have an interest in different looking fruits and Ernie is quick to give me a description.
But, today I was looking for peaches. It is that time of the year. Tomato Sunshine has local peaches. Because of the hot weather they are ready. If you are baking or just enjoying them as a fruit, stop by. They are so sweet.l
I notice they had local fresh bread, as well. The bread came from Touch of Italy located at The Villages of Five Points in Lewes.
The corn, and the melons were just gorgeous.
The Honeydews were screaming…take me, take me…it is too hot!!
Then, my eyes focused on the mountain of tomatoes. The color was unreal.
There it was. The mother of all tomatoes. I picked it up and took it to the scale. I wanted to see its weight. Wow….1.74 lbs!! My gosh!. They told me the other day they had a 2 pounder.
It is the height of the season for a lot of the local produce. If you are visiting the Delaware Beaches, please just take time to enjoy what Southern Delaware has to offer. We have lots of farmers’ markets; local markets that open every day. You know what? You won’t regret it. The taste is just incredible.
Talk to you later. Have a good one!!

“Autumn is a second Spring when every leaf is a flower.” albert camus
With that in mind I guess I would have to say that Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The air is so crisp; but nature’s glow is just amazing. That’s when I decided that a stop to Tomato Sunshine was the thing to do on such a beautiful day.
Tomato Sunshine is located at 4312 Highway One (Rt. 1 or Ocean Highway) in Rehoboth Beach. Tel. is 302-226-9533. The website is www.tomatosunshine.com. I write about it all the time because visiting this garden center and local produce market puts a smile on my face.
The weather has been beautiful in the Delmarva Peninsula for the past 15 days and as I was driving past Tomato Sunshine the colors were incredible. So, a bee line towards the parking lot is what I took.
You will find all kinds of produce at this time of the year, as well; apples, plums and vegetables, among others.
Tomato Sunshine has an excellent website full of information, tips, calendar, etc., so make sure to check it out. You can contact them through e-mail, as well. ernie@tomatosunshine.com, donna@tomatosunshine.com, info@tomatosunshine.com, and garland@tomatosunshine.com.
If you have a garden, yard, or containers you know that this is the busiest time of the year. Looking at my own there is seeding, pruning, soon rakings of leaves and the planting of maybe winter pansies. It is a little overwhelming, actually. I guess, I will get it done but at the moment I am still enjoying a lot of my summer flowers. They have gotten brighter these days.
Every year I find it so interesting to see the variety of pumkins. Check the ones I found out this year.
Cinderella Pumpkins – Ornamental pumpkin, which is deeply ridged.
White Pumpkin – Becoming increasingly common and are all the rage when it comes to chic autumn decorating.
Hubbard Squash – One of the best keeping squashes because of the extra hard skin.
Fairytale Pumpkin – The French name is “Musquee de Provence”. It is a very unique eating and ornamental pumpkin. The deep orange flesh is very flavored, sweet, thick and firm.
Carnival Squash – Cream colored with orange spots or pale green with dark green spots in vertical stripes.
The goose gourds are beautiful too and they look just like a goose. Used in a lot of the fall decorating.
Yes, it was nice checking all that Tomato Sunshine has to offer; pretty isn’t it and so lucky to be just around the corner.
Talk to you later and have a really beautiful day….
