Delaware is such a small state, but widely known to have a big heart. Downtown Rehoboth Beach is one square mile full of restaurants, shops, and galleries, and entertainment. Let’s not forget that it is a destination for year-round fun. “Get Down In Town” is such a fun event. On Friday, April 4th, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Rehoboth Beach Main Street will host this event that is now in its 4th year. It is a special evening of really great deals, accompanied with fantastic appetizers and desserts from your favorite restaurants inside participating downtown Rehoboth shops.
To be a part of this one-night charitable event of discounts and food, you can purchase $10 glow necklaces. Proceeds from the sale of the necklaces will go to Rehoboth Elementary School’s PTO and RICI which is Rehoboth Inspired Chefs’ Initiative. This local fundraising event is for such a good local cause. The phrase “shop local, dine local” could not be more appropriate. After all that shopping, relaxing with friends for cocktails or dinner is always a must, and Rehoboth had plenty accommodations which include, hotels, and B & Bs.

Now that you have resigned yourselves that the week-end is going to be cloudy and rainy….what are you planning to do with the kids? It would be so easy if you were by yourselves; shopping, eating, drinking. Someday, right?
Downtown Rehoboth Beach is such a walkable town that, at least, you will not have to get back in the car and follow the masses to the outlets.
An easy one to entertain those young ones is that if it is just cloudy, let them run around on our award winning boardwalk and the beach!! That’s an easy one. If it’s raining, then, check the following activities. They might help.
Sunday, August 26th – Browseabout Books, located at 133 Rehoboth Ave. At 9 a.m. is an hour of activities, stories and crafts. Llama Llama will be there to pose for photos. Make sure you arrive by 9 a.m. to enjoy the whole hour. The meters do not go into effect until 10 a.m. so you will be fine.
Then, if you are here during the week, you can also go to Browseabout Books Monday through Thursday until August 30th for A time for Storytime.
8:30 a.m. until 9:10 the age group is 5 through 8 years of age.
9:15 a.m. until 9:45 the age group is 2 to 4 years of age.

Cake Break is a gourmet cupcake company located at 7 South First Street in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. It is a nut free facility with vegan and gluten free cupcakes. The Cookie Monster is chocolate chip cookies, baked on chocolate ship cupcakes with or without mocha icing.

Coastal towns have many arcades available for the young and the matured crowd. Rehoboth Beach has a 1 mile award-winning Boardwalk. Of course, we have arcades!!

Surfside Arcade is on the South side of the Boardwalk, as well.

The Rehoboth Beach Museum is the perfect place to get to know Rehoboth Beach better. If you have been coming to the beach for years, this museum will show you how far this coastal town has come. It is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue near the traffic circle. The Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center is in the same complex. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, college students, and military. $2 for children 13 to 17 and the rest are free.
This museum used to be the town’s ice house and it is currently hosting two exhibits. “Rehoboth Speaks: The Story Nation’s Summer Capital” tells the story of the founding and growth of Rehoboth Beach. And, “World War II: Rehoboth Beach” tells the story of our beach town during the war. Visitors will learn how local citizens helped with Civil Defense and of the local boys who were sent overseas. Even the ocean is warmer than usual. Up and down Coastal Highway cars were trying to make it to the beach. Oh, well it is that time of the year and the Delaware Beaches are ready for all our visitors. Everything looks in top shape.

A light summer meal is what we all need on hot summer days. Dogfish Head, located at 320 Rehoboth Ave. has a great Cobb Salad with a basil vinaigrette dressing. Have it plain or top it with fish or with a crab cake, like I did. Thought I would pass that tip on to you.

From time to time a friend drags me just like I might drag her….off we go; out and about. Jody and I took to the streets in Rehoboth Beach to have lunch at Dogfish Head. That post comes later. From there we stopped at a jewelry store that appeared on AboutMyBeaches in 2009. I liked it then, and that has not changed a bit.

Heidi was an emerging artist in high school. After so many years she has come to be a full blown artist, whose designs are contemporary, whimsical, and at times, a little bold.
   
Different exhibits can be found at her Gallery year-round. At present she has an exhibit, Multiples, from various artists from all over the country showing unconventional pieces that are unique and never boring.
Besides being an artist and designer, Heidi also teaches. In the past she has taught at The Rehoboth Art League. At Towson University, in Maryland, you will find her one day a week teaching metalsmithing. A metalsmith, also called a smith, uses metal as a material for making objects.
She also teaches at her Studio. Classes can be held privately or semi-privately. Some of her students have been working hard for years. They are making very unique designs.
 
Heidi welcomes commissions, as well; engagement rings, wedding rings, wedding party gifts. A custom piece you might have in mind.
Upcoming Events – June 9th until August 6th stay tuned for the 6th Annual Earrings Galore Exhibition, which will feature earrings made by artists all over the country; wide range of styles and formats.

Learn about who the early colonists were, where they came from and where they have gone; who traded with them and what was going on in the rest of the world while Delaware was coming into being.
This program is presented in conjuction with the exhibit “Captain John and Sarah Avery: A 17th Century Family on Delaware”s Frontier.
