New Foodie in Town, Sophia, Kid Friendly Restaurants, Half Full, Restaurant, Pizza, Lewes, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, A New Post by Sophia, Kids Eat at The DE Beaches

IMG_3770

Hi there. Here I was this past week-end when the weather was glorious.  It is what I love the most. Playing on the beach with my family.  Well, there is another thing I like to do just as much and that is eating.  I am Sophia and I am a new foodie in town.  Looking for places that kids are welcomed and not rushed.  It is the beach, afterall, you should come here to relax and chill out.

FullSizeRender (182)

Half Full is the restaurant that we went to eat the other night.  It is in Lewes, Delaware, located at 125 Second St.  Tel. 302-645-8877.  It is open from Sunday through Thursday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m.    Website?  http://www.halffulllewes.com.

My Grammy and my Mom were there too.  Half Full is celebrating their first year in this location.  I guess it is about my age.  I just took my first steps and this is a milestone.  I am growing up.  Everyone has been laughing and clapping at my way of walking.  I will master it and then they will be sorry because I will be all over the place.

At Half Full you order at the counter and then they will bring you the food at the table.  Our table, and this is a tip from me to you, was inside.

FullSizeRender (176)

It was a corner booth.  It is perfect for little ones like me.  You can also eat outside on their porch but my Mom thinks this is the best one.  There is also a high table that I have sat before.  Yes, I do get around.

DSCN3809

Some of you might think I should be home in bed but to tell you the truth it was not late and I also took a late afternoon nap.  So I was ready for some tasting.

The first thing we ordered was the Cold Board.

FullSizeRender (178)

It is a composed salad of two cheeses, sopressata, roasted red pepper and tomato, Kalamata olives, which I so love, and garlic sauce.  I am not into the garlic sauce but I love everything else.  You can tell by the photos by Grammy took.

FullSizeRender (180)FullSizeRender (177)

Two pizzas were ordered.  These pizzas are thin and crispy.  They are sooooo good.  You are going to love them and so will your children.

In the background the pizza was Have It Your Way….you customize it.  Tomato sauce, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes and Kalamata Olives. That was my Mom’s.

FullSizeRender (175)FullSizeRender (173)

In the foreground my Grammy’s was The Lobster & The Leek…Canadian lobster, creamy leek confit, cognac tomato sauce.  My Grammy said she had forgotten how good these pizzas were.  I totally agree with her.  They were yummy!!

It was an early evening in Lewes.  The town was quiet.  Stay tuned for my next post.

Night Night!!

What’s Going On? New Foodie in Town, Sophia, Nicola Pizza, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Kid Friendly Restaurants, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

FullSizeRender (171)

I am Miss Sophia.  Most of the time my favorite past time is playing on the beach.  I am very new to this.  I am only 15 months old.  I am a fast learner.  Besides doing all those things babies do, I have become quite a foodie.  I like most everything.  I try it once and if I put a funny face my Mom usually knows that I am not too comfortable with such a unique taste.  One thing I love is ice cream, watermelon, and cherry tomatoes.

I love Italian food so we took off to Nicola Pizza.  They tell me that since 1971 it has been a favorite of residents and visitors alike.  It has 2 locations:  the original located at 8 N 1st Street and the second on 71 Rehoboth Avenue.  The second one is practically around the corner.  Tel. 302-227-6211.  Website http://www.nicolapizza.com.

DSCN3768

My Mom and my 2 grandmas were with me at the original location.  Nicola Pizza is very kid friendly.  No rush, stay as long as you want.

We ordered French Fries!  Sprinkling them with a little Apple Cider Vinegar is always good, but I just put ketchup on mine.  My Grammy calls this type of food Boardwalk Grub!  Not sure what she means, but I think I will be learning more and more about these favorites of all that come to the beach.  I forgot to tell you that it seems they all like their fries well done!

DSCN3760

Nicola Pizza is known for their Nic-o-Boli.  The original has ground beef and you can add all kinds of other goodies like, onions, cheese, sweet peppers, mushrooms and the list goes on.  They have a vegeterian ones, as well.  These Nic-o-Bolis can be also bought by the dozen.  Nicola Pizza also ships.

This is what the Nic-o-Boli looks like. Inside, it is hot and full of meat, cheese and sauce.

DSCN3764

My Grammy wanted to have it but did not want to eat all the dough.  She says summer is coming.  I want to tell her summer is here!!  Anyway, they have what they call a Nic-o-Boli in a bowl.  She added sweet peppes, and mushrooms.

DSCN3762

She loved it.  Guilt free she said.

Mama Nicola (Joan Caggiano) was making the rounds.  She always stops at each table to see if her customers are satisfied.  When she came to my table she decided to take a seat and watch me eat my spaghetti which by the way, I loved.  I slurperd those noodles right up and loved the meatballs, as well.

DSCN3766

Mama Nicola was so nice.  She just watch me eat and have a good time.

DSCN3765

From here we were off to the rides at Funland, also in Downtown Rehoboth Beach!!

I’ll be passing the word around as I see kid friendly places, here at the Delaware Beaches.  Night Night!!

Rehoboth Beach Eats! Eden Restaurant, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Bar, Catering, Tried & True Restaurant, Delaware Beaches

DSCN3269

Eating is not merely a material pleasure.  Eating well gives a spectacular joy to life and contributes immensely to goodwill and happy companionship.  It is of great importance to the morale.  elsa schiaparelli

Meeting friends on trendy Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach….we were trying to grab dinner at favorite restaurants of mine before the crowds arrive and the meters come into effect.

Rehoboth Beach is known for its culinary excellence.  The chefs are really outdoing themselves.  I think when visitors arrive this week-end they will see that there are other restaurants now manking an appearance in town.  But I never forget the true and tried restaurants.  Over the years I keep coming back to those establishments that give me good service, let me chat with friends without intrusion, and serve food cooked with the best ingredients.

I always have loved Eden.  When someone asks me where to go in Rehoboth for a special dinner Eden always comes to mind.  The staff is so professional.  And don’t get me wrong I love plenty of other restaurants in Southern Delaware, but Eden is on the top of my list.

Eden is located at 23 Baltimore Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-3330  Website?  http://www.edenrestaurant.com

The website is informative.  Eden offers catering.  On Fridays Eden Classic Dishes are half price.  And don’t forget that the bar is always open.

Meeting Madelon and Cindi for dinner we arrived early, which was the perfect opportunity for photos.  The dining room is open and the booths are perfect for an intimate dinner.

DSCN3259

One Artic Char, perfectly seasoned.

DSCN3261

And two of us had the Venison, which looked as good as it tasted.

DSCN3262

At Eden there are always various desserts…..but the Chef’s Daily Whim was a tribute to the Almond Joy…..decadent and totally sinful!!

DSCN3264

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Week-End.  Don’t be shy, try Rehoboth Beach Bests Restaurants….you will not be disappointed!!

Wearing the T-Shirt volunteers and runners celebrated the Super Heroes in their lives!!  The Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5 K Fun Run/3 K Walk is an annual event that has been taking place in Downtown Bethany Beach, Delaware on Mother’s Day Week-End.  Every year more and more people register to honor someone and have the opportunity to spend some time at the beach.

DSCN3344_00

It is a relaxed race and walk.  The Founder and Chair is Ann Raskauskas and the Co-Chair is Carol Hartnett.  The event just took place last week-end, but pretty soon plans for next year’s event will be taking place.  The website is http://www.bethanybeachbreastcancer.com.

DSCN3346_00

If you have been at the Delaware Beaches you know we have had an amazing amount of rain this week.  But, it just so happened that last Saturday early in the morning the clouds broke and we even saw sunshine for a little bit of time while the race and walk took place.  The Boardwalk in Bethany was the meeting place and look how pretty the ocean looked!!

DSCN3347_00

I was in charge of the Information Booth and Dog Station where pooches stopped to say hello, have some water and grab a bandana.

There were prizes awarded and then a little bit of stretching before starting the Run/Walk.

DSCN3364_00

The Boardwalk in Bethany Beach is the center of this coastal resort town.  The Boardwalk grub like fries, pizza and the rest of those yummy treats…..but I stopped at Turtle Beach Cafe on the south side of the boardwalk for a smoothie.

DSCN3374_00

DSCN3371_00

The Green Smoothie is so delicious and refreshing.  It has banana, mango, pineapple, spinach and spirulina….also they will add yogurt, as well, but you can have it without.  Spirulina is a microalgae that has high nutritional value and health benefits.  It is is considered a super food.

DSCN3373_00

Remember same time same place next year in Bethany Beach the Bethany Beach Breast Cancer 5K Fun Run/3K Walk will be waiting for you!!

Rehoboth Beach Eats! Mariachi, Cinco de Mayo, Restaurant, Bar, Spanish Cuisine, Latin American Cuisine, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

DSCN3312

Choosing Mariachi located at 14 Wilmington Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, was a no brainer.  Have you had Yolanda’s cooking?  That woman can cook!!  And, she can cook diverse Spanish and Latin American dishes.  Mariachi has been in Rehoboth Beach since 2006.  Spanish and Latin American cuisine has always been so flavorful…it was not discovered just the other day.  Foodies have embraced this cuisine because there is so much to choose from.

dscn3990

Mariachi is open every day now.  Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.  They offer Brunch on Saturday and Sunday.  The restaurant has 2 floors with 2 bars and on the top floor there is a great balcony where you can dine on beautiful summer nights and watch Rehoboth Beach show visitors why we love living here.  Great Happy Hour by the way.  The telephone is 302-227-0115.

dscn3988

Please check their website…http://www.mariachirehobothde.com

Unfortunately, it was really raining on Cindo de Mayo.  We had reservations, thank God.  The restaurant was packed, the line coming to the street.  My friend, Jody pushed her way through.  Some were looking at us funny as we passed through, but we did have reservations.  My party?  Some old and new friends; from left Lori, Jody, Julie and Kelly.

DSCN3302

A quick visit to the bar but we did not have to wait long to be shown to our table.  Some tables were louder than others, but ours was a little quieter.  I kept watching Yolanda as she handled all the customers with her usual smile as she walked from one side of the restaurant to the other, also asking customers how their food was.

DSCN3303

On Cinco de Mayo Mariachi had a special menu but you could also order from the main menu, which by the way it is extensive.

My friends ordered from the special menu:

Poc Chuc Tacos on a corn tortilla.  Poc Chuc is charbroiled pork which has been marinated in imported Mayan spices. The tacos came with pico de gallo and sour cream.

DSCN3307

And broiled Tilapia fish tacos on flour tortillas.

DSCN3309

What caught my eye was from their Main Menu….Masitas de Puerco Cuban Style.  These were pork morsels marinated in a “criolla” sauce and roasted in Sevilla’s bitter oranges.  Loved this dish and I would order it again on a heart beat.  The pork morsels just melted in your mouth.  Great seasoning….accompanied with rice, black beans, of course, sweet plantains, a bit of broccoli and rice.  The photos shows how good it looked.

DSCN3310

No dessert was necessary…Summer 2016 is almost here.

Service was very attentive even though the restaurant was so crowded.  The bill?  So reasonable.  Mariachi is one of those restaurants that serves the whole family.  Check it out.

Nuevo Mundo Alpaca, Alpaca Farm, Selbyville, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

DSCN3147

Here we are.  We are fairly new to Selbyville.  We are Alpacas.  Along with LLamas we are family members of the camels but we do not have that hump.  We are natives to America and we are known as animals of the new world.  Get it?  Nuevo Mundo.

I arrived at Jose Palma and Elizabeth Ferguson with my friend, Jody.  She has known Liz for some time.  Jose and Liz moved to Selbyville from Kentucky.  When asking them if it was because of low property taxes, they said no.  It was just a random choice after looking at several properties.  Both are extremely friendly and generous with their time.  This is a new business for them but they are thoroughly enjoying this new journey.

You can check Nuevo Mundo Alpaca on Facebook.  The website is http://www.nuevomundoalpaca.com.

On the website Liz is going to be introducing their Alpacas.  The first one being introduced is Tempest.  She is a 5 year old female.  On the photos that I took I am not sure which one she was but on the following photo it might be the one on the right.  The brown cria was a doll.

DSCN3157

Alpacas and Llamas are natives to the Andes.  The Llama is the bigger one.  The Alpaca is smaller and compact.  Here is Liz feeding them.  They are friendly but cautious.  And like I told my friend Jody….they do spit.

DSCN3150

Jose and Liz are introducing their Alpacas to shows and competitions.  Something completely new to them.  On the farm their rescued Great Pyrenees keep watch over the Alpcas.

DSCN3173

During beautiful weather the Alpacas enjoy the gorgeousl Southern Delaware sunshine.  But during inclement weather they have their barn for much needed shelter.

DSCN3169

DSCN3171

There is more to Nuevo Mundo Alpaca…..chickens!!  Their chicken coop is precious.  And Jose and Liz’s pooch thinks he owns them.

DSCN3164

DSCN3165

DSCN3167

Liz and Jose are learning everything Alpaca.  The fleece is the natural fiber harvested from an alpaca.  It is soft, durable and luxurious; a silky natural fiber.

If you have any questions please email Jose@nuevomundoalpaca.com, 502-767-9543, or Elizabeth@nuevomundoalpaca.com, 502-235-4543.

In the area there are now about 3 alpaca farms.  Lewes/Rehoboth, Berlin, and now Selbyville.

Jose:  Fue un placer conocerte.  Espero cuando venga tu Mama pueda saborear algo de su cocina.  Gracias a ti y a Liz por habernos recibido tan amablemente.

Lewes Eat!! Heirloom, Restaurant, Downtown Historic Lewes, Delaware, Open 7 Days a Week, Dinner, Coastal Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Rose Dinner, Tuesday, May 3, 2016

DSCN3095

“Most heirlooms have been saved and selected because they have the best flavor and production in home and small market gardens.  We get the benefit of this long development cycle, as only the best producing, most flavorful, most memorable and most dependable varieties have made the selection through the years.  Delicate, weak or fickle varieties are no longer with us.”

Hello to Heirloon, located at 212 Savannah Rd. in Historic Lewes, Delaware.  Tel. 302-313-4065.  You may also find Heirloom on Facebook.  Website?  http://www.heirloomdelaware.com

DSCN3073

At this time of the year I am trying to visit some of the new and already seasoned restaurants in our area.  Pretty soon it will be a little difficult to park, get reservations….Yes, Summer 2016 is almost here.  Meters will be going up, you know what I mean.

My friend Cathy from Bethany Beach, and I, decided on Heirloom on a quiet week day a couple of weeks ago.  Have heard all good reviews but I like to see for myself.  Not all of us have the same discriminate palate.

I felt like I was home.  The restaurant is charming.  It exudes warmth.

DSCN3088

DSCN3087

A small gathering at the bar.

DSCN3093

Our table was in a cozy corner….drinks and bread were served.

DSCN3077

Our room was quiet and our service was unobtrusive.  Our server was attentive but she sensed we wanted to catch up, so she let us have our time.

We decided on a few appetizers.  I had heard that they had sweetbreads.  I ordered the Veal Sweetbreads in honor of my late husband, who totally loved them.  John ordered them every time he saw them offered at a restaurant.

These Crispy Veal Sweetbreds had a chili glaze, served with charred broccoli, egg yolk puree, and sesame seeds.  They were so flavorful, tender and delicious.

DSCN3079

Cathy ordered the Beets in a Garden, served roasted, pickled, raw, dehydrated, and puree, house whipped ricotta, brown butter crunch, and hazelnut “dirt”.  Beautiful presentation and tasty beets.

DSCN3078

Our choices for entrees were just perfect.

Cathy chose the Pan Seared New Jersey Scallops.  They have had scallops on the menu before, but these were new.  Fiddlehead ferns, asparagus, charred rhubard compote, and ramp pistou.  Ramp pistou is Provence’s much loved answer to pesto.  The French Pistou is made with soft herbs, oil and toasted nuts or seeds of some kind.

DSCN3081

Best Pork Chop at the Beach!!  This Double Cut Berkshire Pork Chop was huge and so tender and juicy.  Granny Smith apple puree, crispy brussels, fingerling potatoes, and shaved horseradish.  What a dish!!

DSCN3083

For dessert, we shared a sampler of ice cream and sorbet.  Refreshing and the perfect ending to such a nice meal.

DSCN3086

Megan Lee is the owner of Heirloom and was so gracious to show us around.  She has put so much work into this restaurant and it shows.  I wish her the best!!

Event:

Rose Dinner in conjunction with Southern Wine Spirits will take place on Tuesday, May 3rd.  It is a 5 course dinner paired perfectly with the proper wine for each tasting.  You may call 302-313-4065 to make a reservation or visit the Facebook Page.
