A tradition in Southern Delaware, this is the 20th Annual Southeastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour. It covers the towns of Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Dagsboro, Selbyville, and Fenwick Island. So, are you awake? Because, today and tomorrow are the days where these talented artists open their studios. Get to know them up close and personal. Thirteen full time artists will be participating this year. Some you already know, but also there are a few new faces, as well.

“Art in the Hat Raffle” – In each studio you visit you can purchase raffle tickets for $4.99 each or 5 for $20.00 100% of the proceeds from the raffle will benefit art programs and education in the Indian River School District. Over the years I have crawled the tour, always stopping by to visit one of my favorites. His name is Fom Frey. He is a Woodturner, located in Dagsboro. Using mostly local woods he turns them into beautiful pieces of art.
His miniatures are just gorgeous and so delicate.

Shopping season has started in earnest…..the Rehoboth Beach outlets were packed on “Midnight Madness”….but these artists offer something unique…a piece of art; all from their heart.

The artists in Southeastern Delaware are opening their doors to their studios once again, as they have been doing for 19 years. This is a free, self-guided tour of the studios of 13 of Delaware’s most talented artists and artisans, all located in Southeastern Sussex County. You can talk to them, ask questions, see them work, buy some of their pieces of art, but most of all, get to know them personally.

One of my favorite artists is Tom Frey, who is located in Dagsboro. He is a woodturner. Mr. Frey uses mostly local woods that are stressed by nature.
His miniatures are beautiful and if you are lucky enough he might be working on some of them as you visit his studio.
Note: Damon Pla will not be on the tour this year.

Out and about in Rehoboth Beach, I was chasing the moon…..so gorgeous! In the past week, I have been walking, driving, and strolling the towns that we call home at the Delaware Beaches; Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island. I have noticed that people are starting to fix roofs, windows, yards, porches, driveways….it is almost like we can feel that just around the corner Spring and Summer are going to be knocking on our doors. My daffodils are definitely coming up!!
Through the years I have met so many good friends, here, at the Delaware Beaches. One, in particular, Alice, (and her husband, Charles), used to live here year round. After years of living in the Delaware/Pennsylvania line they bought a place in Rehoboth Beach. Then, just recently they sold that one and then bought a house in a really neat community. Her house looks great. The back overlooks a pond.
In the fall she called me to tell me that she was going to make her back porch year-round and add a maintenance free deck. And, she was using Betterliving Sunrooms & Awnings of Delmarva. Betterliving Sunrooms & Awnings of Delmarva will be at the 29th Home Condo & Outdoor show to be held at the Ocean City Convention Center (Roland E. Powell Convention Center,) located at 4001 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland on Friday, 3/8 through Sunday, 3/10.
Then, they will also be at the 16th Annual Delaware Resorts 2013 Home Expo at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, located at 229 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, 4/6 and Sunday, 4/7.

I meant to write this post last night but after cooking, eating and cleaning…oh well, here it goes today.
Lots of happenings at this time of the year as the Beaches start the Holiday Season. Late last night all the outlets opened….no way, I really did not need anything that badly. But, if you are visiting, why not take advantage of the tax free shopping the State of Delaware offers?
In Rehoboth Beach
Friday, 11/25 – Just Comfort Shoes located at 18756 Coastal Highway opened at 6:00 a.m. They are near the outlets on Rt. 1! Sales and service with a smile with plenty of sales for this shopping season. This year new lines like Alegria, Cushe, Sannibel by Dansko and Earthies…shopping in comfort. Friday, 11/25 – Tree Lighting ceremony in Rehoboth Beach at the Bandstand. The actual lighting will be at 7 p.m., but if you come between 6 and 7 p.m., there will be plenty of singing. This year’s tree was donated by a local resident. It is beautiful. More info? www.downtownrehoboth.com.
Friday, 11/25 and Saturday, 11/26 – Joss II located at 19470 Coastal Highway (Rt.1) in the Shops at Camelot Shopping Center, will be hosting an Open House. Friday, 11/25 – Opening of Clear space Theatre Company’s production of Scrooge from Friday the 25th until December 11th. Water Media, Watercolor, oil and mural, painter, photographer, pen and ink, woodturner, ceramics and jewelry, glass artist, blacksmith are a few of the artists that will open on Friday and Saturday. Not all of them will be opened on Saturday but you will be able to see from the map who these are.

Contractors for a Cause is an organization of local contractors that give back to the community that supports them. It is based in the Bethany Beach and Ocean View, Delaware in Southern Delaware.
Mike Cummings from Miken Builders located at 32782 Cedar Drive, Millville, DE 19967, www.mikenbuilders.com, will be the Workshop Leader. This is a free event and it is only limited for the first 20 women that register. You can register by calling Andrea at 302-537-4444.
There will be babysitting provided on site during the workshop. Topics will be anything from fixing a loose toilet handle to caulking and drywall patch techniques. Also weather stripping and squeaky doors, as well.
It will be Saturday, 11/19 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and pastries.
