The Wooden Indian, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Boutique, Shopping, Baltimore Ave., Tax Free Shopping, Gifts, Housewares, Bridal Registry, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Summer 2019

Shop Local….The Wooden Indian is one of those boutiques that couldn’t be more local. Located on the trendy Baltimore Avenue, it is an iconic shop in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. It has been here since 1977. If Frances Cowgill happens to be there when you visit, please ask her to tell you from the beginnings ot The Wooden Indian until now. She has been there all that time. Location? 25 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-227-8331. Find them on Facebook. Website? http://www.woodenindianltd.com

Every time I have written about The Wooden Indian I have to mention that when my kids were very young I would bring them into the store. The first time they looked at me probably thinking “if you break it, you buy it”. What they did not know then was that I would have told them that they could only touch with their eyes. Amazingly so I never had a problem.

The Wooden Indian has an extensive bridal registry department. China, crystal, silverware and other gifts appropriate for weddings and parties in a wide variety of prices.

Exquisite brands…the store is beautifully appointed. Upon entering you feel right at home. Not only a friendly staff, but the building itself is cozy.

Great pillows to refresh those sofas at home.

We, here in Delaware, have tax free shopping. It really is a big savings, so take the opportunity to shop in our beach towns. At The Wooden Indian, they can fix party baskets for all seasons. They will wrap your gifts beautifully. They also can ship.

I don’t know about you but my friends are grandparents now many times over. Baby gifts that are unique can be found at The Wooden Indian. Look how cute they are.

You have to agree that they are very different from what you get in other stores.

I can guarantee you that you will find that perfect gift you are looking for.

Summer 2019 is here….and so is June. We have many coastal weddings, taking advantage of our beautiful resort towns.

Until next time…..Relax, You are At The Beach!!

14 Global, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Coastal Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Sipping & Dining at The Beaches, Summer 2019

This past Friday was a beautiful night in Bethany Beach, Delaware. For those off you that have never visited this coastal town, this is a very popular family resort in Southern Delaware. I know it well because I lived here for many years. It has come a long way since back in the mid 70s when we first moved here.

The town has kept its charm. A Main Street, Garfield Parkway, leads to the ocean and then the side streets have beach homes that all are very walkable to the beach. It is a year round resort just like all the other beaches in Southern Delaware. My friend, Cathy, and I chose 14 Global, which is located at 14 N Pennsylvania Ave. Right next to the Post Office. Their tel. is 302-616-1035. Their website is: http://www.14global.com

One thing to have in mind as you visit the Delaware resorts is that in the summer you pretty much need to make a reservation. If restaurants do not offer them, and a lot do not, then please plan ahead. Show up, put your name down, have a drink. You are on vacation so in reality you have to go with the flow.

I love the idea that 14 Global has kept a small, intimate setting. Good atmosphere too. And this restaurant offers many choices for those with food allergies.

We decided to share our dining experience. We first tried the Grilled Caesar Salad. The first time I tried one of these I fell in love how a grilled romaine tasted. This one had a homemade dressing, romain hearts, romano, bacon and cheddar corn pone croutons. The croutons had the perfect texture.

From 14 Global’s Small Shares we ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartare. A beautiful presentation, surprising us with Habanero Sesame Oil, sea beans, watermelon radish, red onion, jalapeno, mint, avocado mousse, pistachio dust, pea shoots, red alaea salt, and crispy wonton chips.

Picking something out from their Medium Shares we decided on the Vegetable Plate. At 14 Global you will find Small Shares and Medium Shares. Depending on how hungry you are, the Medium Shares are a larger portion. The Roasted Vegetable Plate came full of color and delicious veggies…carrots, wild mushrooms, beets, cauliflower, asparagus, shallots, truffle and herb goat cheese. It tasted as good as it looks on this photo.

Moving on to our last dish we decided on the Surf & Turf Tacos, which were under their Medium shares. They are called 14 Global Mini Beach Tacos. The Surf & Turf ones were 4 tacos, the others were 3 tacos. They were delicious with charred corn and cilantro relish, pickled purple cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado mousse, cotija cheese, and citrus aioli.

We accompanied our dinner with the house Chardonnay, Butter, from Napa, California. A Chang Tai cocktail was also served. Sorry, I forgot to take those photos. lol

The desserts sounded sooooo good, but we were satisfied. No desserts for us on Friday.

There is an art when you sit down at a table to enjoy a meal with a friend, a significant other or even by yourself. You don’t have to be a foodie, but I think you should taste and enjoy the different flavors and spices. You will get a completely new experience when you take your time.

Until next time, I hope you enjoy our Delaware Beaches and everything they have to offer.

Relax, you are at the Beach.

Mary’s Touch, Moving, Packing, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Sussex County

A few months ago I needed a mover. As it is usually the case a friend gave me the name of Mary Nicholson who is the owner of Mary’s Touch. Her company, Mary’s Touch Moving & Packing, LLC specializes in new homes, storage and retirement homes. Tel. 302-745-1272.

Word of mouth is the best advertising you can get. You are happy with the work, you will definitely, pass the word around. I have been meaning to write a post on Mary because they were true professionals. At some point or another everyone needs a mover that will pack and move your treasures to either another home or to a storage unit.

Totally recommend this company. Please give Mary a call.

Out & About, The Bungalow on 2nd, Lifestyle Boutique, Lewes, Delaware, Shopping, Shop Local, Small Business Saturday, November 24th, Delaware Beaches, Historic Lewes, Holiday Shopping

I was out and about with a friend on Second Street in Lewes, Delaware.  The Fall is the time for us “locals” to get out and see what is new.  A relaxed way of discovering the town.  No parking, which makes a big difference. My friend, Madelon, and I loved the storefront of this boutique that we had not noticed in the past.  It is called The Bungalow on 2nd.  Second Street is really Main Street in Lewes.

I am sure some of you will disagree but I find boutique shopping the most comfortable way to shop.  These shops in small towns all over the United States give clients the opportunity to get to know the store owners. You get a one on one service.

The young woman behind the counter I had to engage in conversation.  If you were in a big mall that usually does not happen.  No time for small talk, really.  Her name is Kaitlin and she has been opened for just about 6 weeks or so.  The shop is adorable; so very well appointed.  The store is not crowded and she has done a great job in redoing the shop.  Before starting this new venture she was a 9th grade teacher.  It would be great for you to stop by and welcome her to the community.  The Bungalow on 2nd is located at 142 2nd St., Lewes, DE 19958.  Tel. 302-644-1544

You can find clothing, presents for friends and family and, of course, a little indulgence for yourself, as well.

There is nothing like the right accessory to enhance an outfit.  You can find necklaces, earrings, and bracelets for all tastes.

Clean looks, napkins, table runners, candles, home accents…..all very pretty and affordable.

November 24th it is called Small Business Saturday.  Obviously, we live in small coastal towns and promoting the local businesses is something a lot of us find dear to our hearts.  We wish Kaitlin much success and look forward to stopping by again.

Until then, have a good one!!

Semra’s Mediterranean Grill, Restaurant, Take Out, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Review, Lunch, Dinner, The Beach Eats, Casual, Homemade Food, Aromatic Spices, Southern Delaware

Crushed red pepper directly from Turkey.  Semra’s family sends her this sweet pepper.  It does not look sweet but it is.  Very good.  Semra’s has it on all tables.  I had a craving for Moussaka from Semra’s.  In Turkey, which is where Semra is from, the Moussaka has a different appearance.  I always thought Moussaka looked like and eggplant lasagna.  At Semra’s it is prepared Turkish style.  It is so aromatic and flavorful.

The Kofte I had for lunch today.  The patties are char-grilled, again, seasoned with those delicious Turkish herbs and spices.  It was served with rice, yogurt sauce and pita bread.

Semra’s is located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue on the ocean block.  You can find them on Facebook.  Their website is http://www.semras.com.

Semra’s also has take out and catering.  During the winter they have belly dancing evenings, a complete fun show.  It is very well attended.  You can check their Facebook page or visit the above mentioned website.

It is interesting to find out other restauranteurs visiting their favorite restaurants in Rehoboth Beach.

Semra and her husband, John, are always at the restaurant.  They are so friendly.  Very nice couple.  Their food is cooked inhouse and they consider themselves foodies.  That is why their food taste so good.  Their cooking reflect the love of delicious homemade food, beautifully spiced.

Until next time!!

The Royal Cabana, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, For Rent, Summer 2018, Summer Cottage, Old Fashioned Beach House, Rent by The Week in Rehoboth Beach, Sleeps 18, Large Group Rental, Ocean Views, Southern Delaware Beaches, SoDel, Old Rehoboth Beach House

I showed a friend of mine a photo of this house and he said “that’s a beach house”.  A house with casual imperfections.  You can relax and sit without having to worry that your sunscreen will stain expensive slipcovers.  Better yet, the old hardwood floors which have been tested through the years, still can handle some sand.  Sweeping might be a thing of the past but not on this “old beach cottage” we call the Royal Cabana.

Some of the old fashioned beach houses are disappearing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, just like they are disappearing in many beach communities throughout the United States.  We came to these houses for their simplicity, for the beach, to run around, have fun and relax.  Rehoboth Beach still has a few and if you want to experience old time charm, the Royal Cabana will be a good choice.  It has history, as well.  This house is well over 100 years old.  It was, actually, moved from Baltimore Avenue to Lake Avenue in the 1990s.  Yes, here in Delaware we move houses. If only its walls could talk.  I am sure they would be filled with stories from the families that called this beach house home. I call it a well lived home.

Located by the award winning Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, it is a quiet street at night. During the day you can enjoy the beach, the kids can walk the boardwalk and go to Funland. On weekends, music by the Bandstand is always fun.  You can walk everywhere from this house.  Hit the 3 main streets in Rehoboth Beach; Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Ave., and Wilmington Ave. for shopping, dining and listening to music on any given night. Or, you might want to enjoy the Porch and stay put.

A bird’s eye view from the second floor shows why this beach house has the perfect location.

A screened in porch in the back.

One of the joys of coming out of the ocean is taking a shower outdoors.

The Royal Cabana is pefect for multi-generational reunions, large groups, families, and friends get togethers.  I remember last year there was a bachelorette party that stayed at the beach house too.

It can sleep 18 people and everyone in their own bed.

When arriving at the Royal Cabana…..wine and flowers on the table, old fashioned candy, and chips are welcoming after a long trip.

For more information, please email royalcabanallc@gmail.com.  This house is also listed on AirBnB.  Look for Rehoboth Beach House with an Ocean View.  It is hosted by Cabana Boy and he answers quickly.

As you enter Rehoboth Beach there is a sign that says it all.

Have a great time now and in the upcoming Second Season.
