What’s Going On? Lewes, Delaware, 4th Annual Lewes Tulip Festival Blooms on April 11 – 13, 2013, Fundraising for Children’s Learning Garden, Tulip Trolley Tours, Historic Lewes, First Town in the First State, Delaware Beaches

100_1086

Another gorgeous day in the Delmarva Peninsula with a main event beginning today in Historic Lewes, Delaware.  It is the 4th Annual Tulip Festival.  At times tulips tend to have a mind of their own.  I think this year the tulips are taking their time….sort of making us wait for their amazing beauty.  The festival is all week-end long.

100_1074

For the first 3 years, Lewes in Bloom members and other community volunteers manually planted all the tulips, more than 10,000 bulbs in the City’s parks and public spaces.  Fulton Bank’s generous sponsorship of this year’s festival enabled them to have the tulips planted by a local landscaping company, therefore, allowing them to expand the festival’s marketing initiatives.

dscn3430

The original tulips planted were red (Tulip Parade Red), and white (Tulip Cream Jewel), and blue Muscari bulbs to showcase a red, white and blue theme; colors of both the Dutch and American flags.  They have also planted 700 bulbs of 28 different varieties, creating a tulip library, appropriately located at the Lewes Public Library.

The Tulip Trolley Tours are $10 and reservations can be made by calling the Lewes Chamber of Commerce at 302-645-8073.  The Tulip Trolley tours will take place Thursday, 4/11 at 11:15 a.m., and 12:45 p.m. and Friday, 4/12, and Saturday, 4/13 at 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.  More info? Please call the Lewes Chamber of Commerce at 302-645-8073.

100_1078

Tiptoe To The Tulip tickets (separate and different from the Tulip Trolley Tickets) are free and will be distributed with each map.  Ticket-holders, who visit 10 of the 32 businesses that have adv ertisements surrounding the map and get their ticket stamped, will be entered in drawings for 32 individual gift certificates donated by the participating businesses.  The maps and tickets can be picked up beginning Thursday, 4/11 through Saturday, 4/13 at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s visitor center in the Fisher-Martin house located in Zwaanendael Park behind the Zwaanendael Museum.  Completed tickets can be turned in April 11 – 13 at the Chamber’s visitor center, which is closed on Sunday.  On Sunday, 4/14 tickets can also be turned in at either Sand N Stones or Marsha’s Co, both located on Front Street across from the 1812 Parking Lot.  You do not need to be present to win.  The drawing will be held on Monday, 4/15 and winners will be notified by phone or e-mail.

Lewes Lunch & Learn will be on Friday, 4/12 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Local history buffs, ranging in topic from Lewes as a fishing port to the bombardment of Lewes in the War of 1812.  It is free of charge at the Midway School House #178 on the Lewes Historic Complex located at 110 Shipcarpenter Street in Lewes.  On Friday enjoy a discussion about historical highlights of the War of 1812 and the events surrounding the actual bombardment of the town of Lewes and its aftermath.

Hopkins Farm Creamery, Ice Cream, Lewes, Delaware….Any Day is the Perfect Day for Ice Cream!!

dscn2726

And, today proved to be an awesome day just for that!!

dscn2743

It was pretty late in the day when we arrived at Hopkins Dairy.  That’s what locals call it.  Hopkins Farm Creamery is located at Green Acres Farm on 18186 Dairy Farm Rd., Lewes, Delaware.  The farm is at the intersections of Rt.9/404 and Dairy Farm Rd.  Tel. 302-645-7163.  Website?  http://www.hopkinsfarmcreamery.com.

Green Acres Farm has been owned and operated by the same family for 4 generations.  It is the largest dairy farm in Delaware.

dscn2742

The people were lining up; some were discussing which flavors to order.  You can check the flavors on the boards outside. They have gluten free flavors for those with a gluten allergy.  Also, they offer sugar free ice cream, as well. Both, gluten free ice creams and those with nuts are labeled.

dscn2741

This gentleman ordered the very popular Chocolate Banana Walnut.  It was one of those days that ice cream needed to be eaten fast; 87 degrees at the Delaware Beaches!!

dscn2750

Another gentleman ordered a vanilla baby sccop.  Those are the ones that children usually order…hey, that’s what he wanted.

dscn2749

My husband wanted a gluten free, sugar free, vanilla milkshake.  The size was 24 ounces.  That’s the only size they had.  Half of it was gone in no time; the other is in the freezer.  I tasted it and all I can say is that it was creamy and totally delicious….and, if I had not known that it was sugar free, I would have never noticed.

dscn2740

Hopkins Farm Creamery opens every day, at 11 a.m.

dscn2751

You have to check the cows!!  Talk to you later.

Pizza Rustica, Delray Beach, Gourmet Pizza, Delivery, Eat In, Take Out, South Florida, Palm Beach County

When you think of it, pizza is a complete meal.  Bread, veggies, and protein.  And, for those with a gluten allergy; what’s out there is not the same, but it is getting better, definitely.

My guests were hungry in Delray, so a call to Pizza Rustica was in order.  It is located at 1155 E. Atlantic Avenue, one block from A1A and Delray’s famous beach.  Tel. 561-279-8766.  Website?  http://www.pizzarusticaldelray.com.

Pizza Rustica does deliver, even if it is a few slices (square slices)…a minimum of 3.

Arriving to pick up our well done pizza, we waited for about 5 or 10 minutes.  It was a busy place.

dscn2673

Pizza Rustica has about 27 choices of pizza.  They sell by the slice, medium with a thin crust, extra large with a thin crust and a very large pan pizzaa, as well.  Salads are also big at Pizza Rustica.

Our choices were:

A traditional American Pizza – They were hungry.  No waiting allowed for a little photo.

dscn2677

The Marguerita was traditional with plum tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, herbs and garlic pesto with garden grown basil.

dscn2676

And, the Provencal had a combination of roasted peppers and garlic, over plum tomato sauce and mozzarella with fresh basil, Roma tomatoes and French goat cheese.

dscn2675

Gone in no time…all thought they were very good, and a larger pizza pie than usual!

Arts & Crafts, Food, Music…Destination? The Delray Affair, Delray Beach, Florida

dscn2654

This past week-end was the 51st Delray Affair, in the Village by the Sea, also called, Delray Beach!!  After the rainy Friday, Saturday and Sunday proved to be that Delray Beach was at total capacity.

The beach in Delray looks fantastic.  A lot of work has been done to the beach and it shows.  It is so wide; the sand so soft; the water is still so clear.

dscn2656

But, during the Delray Affair visitors and residents alike were in Downtown Delray Beach.  The streets were opened to pedestrians.

dscn2631

The Delray Affair is the largest arts and crafts festival in the Southeastern U.S.  It showed with multitude of people walking shoulder to shoulder.

dscn2640

Festivals bring food.  At the Delray Affair there was plenty to taste.

dscn2634

dscn2632

The cheesecake and berries on a stick caught my attention.

dscn2639

dscn2638

This vendor really captured our group’s attention….The Man Apron!!  Plenty of raunchy comments!!

dscn2652

After The Man Apron…some wine tasting was needed.

dscn2647

Jason Colannino was attracting a big crowd.  He plays at the Sundy House in Delray Beach.  He was really good.  For more information, please visit http://www.jasoncolannino.com

dscn2649

At the end of the day….taking a break on the beach was all we needed, and pizza from Pizza Rustica to follow.

dscn2668

Talk to you later.

Ziree Thai & Sushi, Restaurant, Thai & Japanese Cuisine, Delray Beach, South Florida, Palm Beach County

Teriyaki, Tempura, Sushi, and Sashimi; the cuisine offered by Ziree Thai & Sushi; fresh and delicious.

dscn2332

Ziree Thai & Sushi is located at 401 West Atlantic Avenue, across from the South County Court House, in Delray Beach, Florida.  Tel. 561-276-6549.

They open for lunch and for dinner.  Take out is available.

The bar offers wine, Thai and Japanese beers, and Sake.

I have been following this restaurant since they opened about 8 years ago.  Since the beginning, it has been a local’s favorite.

My family makes a point to stop by for dinner every time we are in Delray Beach.

It has a casual atmosphere, friendly owners and staff.  I feel totally at home.

dscn2329

Tonight stopping for a quick dinner I ordered the Spicy Conch Salad.  It had masago, scallions, cucumbers and spicy mayo.  I few customers stopped by to see what I was eating.  It was so refreshing and being that it was a balmy night in South Florida….it was perfect.  No more words are necessary, the photo says it all.

dscn2327

Then a little Sashimi Morin, a combo, completed by dinner.

dscn2330

Perfectly satisfied, it was time to head home.

Ziree Thai & Sushi can be found on Facebook.  And, they do offer gift certificates.

Talk to you later.  Have a good one.
