Good Earth Market Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Fresh Produce, Baked Goods, Gluten Free, Vegan, Organic, Gem Java Coffee Bar Open 7 a.m. – Noon!! Events, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn5916

From time to time I would stop by Good Earth Market in Clarksville, Delaware.  When writing a post I would always say that it was about 4 miles west of Bethany Beach.  I am happy to say now that Good Earth Market Rehoboth Beach is pretty much around the corner from my house.  The new market opened this summer to great expectations from the community.  It has not disappointed.  It is fully stocked.  Location?  38131 Terrace Rd., Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, 19971.  Tel. 302-226-3276  On Facebook, find it under Good Earth Market Rehoboth Beach.

dscn5921

The owners are Susan and David Ryan.  They can be found mostly at the Clarksville Market.  In Rehoboth Beach, Annette is their Manager.  Good Earth Market is bringing to the community healthy foods.  Our health is something not to be compromised.  Eating well is part of the solution to many health problems.

dscn5915

And for all of you locals, the location is on the Forgotten Mile; that stretch of Highway 1 (Coastal Highway) between Bayard Ave. Traffic Light in Dewey and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal Bridge.  Now you know…

dscn5938

Gem Java Coffee Bar inside the Market opens at 7 a.m. until Noon.  At present, coffee and fresh muffins are served.  The menu might be expanding later on.  There are plenty of tables and chairs, besides the bar, to sit and gather with friends.  It can sit about 25 people.  Have it in mind if you need to have a meeting or just a fun gathering.  Annette is the Manager and you can call her at 302-226-3276.

The sign of a good Manager is the knowledge of his or her products offered.  Annette was great and it was so nice meeting her.  She was enthusiastic about the Market and gave me a tour showing that this Market is a must stop shop in Rehoboth Beach when looking for fresh, healthy, gluten free, vegan goods and home and wellness products, as well.

dscn5918

Gluten Free!! For years I have kept a gluten free kitchen in my home.  The shops at the Delaware Beaches have all been pretty good in keeping up with a demand for gluten free products.  Good Earth Market in Rehoboth Beach has so many products.  If you are looking for gluten free, please stop by.

A freezer is always filled to capacity.

dscn5935dscn5936

That was just the frozen foods…throughout the store you will find many other products like flours, cereals, chips, sauces, etc. etc. that will make cooking gluten free so much easier.

dscn5940

Paleo Bread is an allergy friendly bread that, at times, is hard to get.  It is gluten free, grain free, and low calorie, as well.  They have it in the frozen section at Good Earth, but if you want to know more about it, please visit http://www.paleobread.com.

dscn5929

Frozen meats…turkey, bison, etc. free of any chemicals and dyes.

dscn5928

The Birch Tree Cafe is the only 100% gluten free restaurant in Southern Delaware.  It is located at the Clarksville location, but on a daily basis salads, breads and other great foods come to the Rehoboth Beach.  You just have to stop by and check it out, or request a favortie…they’ll bring it to you.

dscn5933

Raw Cheese is also hard to find….ask Annette; they have it.

dscn5934

Jams and Coconut Sugars!!

dscn5924

dscn5922

The Iced Coffee on this photo, has been a hit, flying out of the store as soon as it gets in.

dscn5932

Wellness for body, mind, and soul!!

dscn5920

And, plenty of products have a story behind it.  Driftwood Candles.  These candles are made my a woman that years ago became a young widow.  The first time you light your candle, it may extinguish itself before it reaches the wax…this is normal.  Just re-light until you get a steady burn!!

Ocean Suds, Laundromat, Wash & Fold, Large Capacity Washing Machines, Large Capacity Dryers, Alterations, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

dscn4657

There was a time when I would see laundromats everywhere…then, there were none to be found.  I received an advertising card in the mail of a new laundromat that had opened in the Rehoboth Beach area.  I kept it just because I had some comforters that needed some help.  It usually takes forever to get them back from the dry cleaners.  I decided to check them out.

Ocean Suds Laundromat is located at 18675 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  This is the area where the Midway Shopping Center is located.  The movie theaters are here, as well. Questions?  Call 302-703-6601.  You can also find them on Facebook.

The laundromat has the perfect location…next to K & H Bagels.  Hint, hint…coffee, bagels, drop off the laundry.

dscn4655

Whether you are here for a week, a week-end, own an inn or a B & B, or are here for an entire season, maybe this service might be what you have been looking for.  They offer wash and fold service, which is what I did.  I dropped them off and picked them off at the end of the day.

dscn4669

Among the other services, commercial and residential laundry, and alterations.  To do your own laundry at Ocean Suds, a laundry card can be obtained on the premises.  It never expires, use it as much as you want.

dscn4666

dscn4660

It is not that you have to get excited about doing laundry, what you should get excited about is that you can have the friendly and helpful attendants do it for you, so that you can enjoy what the Delaware Beaches have to offer:  sunbathing, shopping, swimming, and dining.

dscn4658

They feel that it is a compliment when they see customers falling asleep.  That means they feel right at home.

dscn4656

Ocean Suds has a special corner for the young ones, as well.

dscn4664

The laundromat is bright and there are plenty of washers and dryers.

dscn4653

dscn4654

So, when the weather is not what it should be at the Delaware Beaches and you are drowning in laundry or your kids bring the laundry home….this might be the easiest way.

They open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  and….

Have a good one!!

Another gorgeous day at the Delaware Beaches.  I know it is August but it feels like September.  The next time you are driving north or south on Coastal Highway by the new Indian River Bridge, make a point to stop by and check it out.  You might end up staying, playing and dining.  On a beautiful day, the Delaware Seashore State Park shows it all off!!

The newest member is Hammerheads Dockside.  They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You might want to stop by for a drink and watch the sunset.

DSCN5194

I have not had the opportunity to try them but just driving by a couple of times tells me that it has been very well received.

On week-ends you may want to catch a ride on the Jolly Trolley from Hammerheads in Dewey Beach to Hammerheads Dockside and back.  More info?  Call 302-227-7325.

DSCN5199

The outdoors is the playground at the Delaware Beaches and it is great to see people fishing, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery at the waters edge.

dscn4470

Lewes, Delaware, is the perfect coastal town.  It has historic charm, unique coastal flavor, unpretentious, laid-back, plenty of character….and a choice of playgrounds; the bay or the ocean.  Shops and restaurants?  You got it!!

When the other night, my friend, Debbie asked to go and watch a swim meet at the Lewes Yatch Club I immediately accepted.  It was the end of the day.  We hoped to enjoy a sunset, grab something to eat.

It was life in Lewes like any other night.  This historic town is much loved and enjoyed by its residents…but just take a peek at the view…how could you not?

Bethany Beach, Delaware, Out & About in The Quiet Resort, Top 10 Best Beaches for Families, Coastal Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Summer of 2013

dscn4412dscn4392

Bethany Beach, Delaware, was founded by members of the Christian Church, also known as the Disciples of Chirst, of Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.  “Bethany still reflects the character of the early settlers who were looking for a haven of rest for quiet people.”

dscn4436

Bethany is quiet during the winter months and residents love it that way.  It is a time to recharge and enjoy this beautiful coastal town in Southern Delaware.  For many years I was one of those residents.  My children’s playground was Bethany Beach.  Family Vacation Critic has named Bethany Beach as one of the 10 Best Beaches for Families for 2013.

dscn4405

When you arrive in Bethany, “Chief Little Owl” will be welcoming you to the town.  The original statue was created by Peter Wolf Toth, who in his own way wanted to give thanks to the U.S.  I remember him working on his statue, carving away, for months in the early 1970s.  He created more than 50 wooden sculptures of famous Indans and donated at least one to every state.  “Chief Little Owl” pays honor to the Nanticoke nation.  The first statue stood in that spot until 1992, but was destroyed by high winds.  The newest version was created also by Peter Toth, from a red cedar log from the Pacific Northwest which should last from 50 to 150 years.

dscn4390

Bethany Beach has a Sister City….Periers, France.  Periers is located in the northwest of France just a few miles from the Normandy beaches, on which the allied armies came to the rescue of France on June 6, 1944.  The citizens of Periers, who were liberated from German oppression on July 27, 1944 have welcomed American solders and their family members who have visited the town for these many years.  On the sign you can see the seal of each town shown linked together by “twinned in friendship”.  The sign is located on Garfield Parkway.

You have to give credit where credit is due….Thanks to Melinda who has beautified the Town of Bethany Beach.  Digging, planting, weeding, maintaining, it is a full time job.  The town looks awesome!

dscn4391

dscn4408

Right by the Totem Pole, at the intersection of Garfield Parkway & Rt. 1, you will find the office for the Town Hall.  The Bethany Beach History Museum is located in the foyer of the Town Hall.  The exhibits contain memorabilia and photographs from the Bethany Beach area.  Admission to the Museum is free of charge.  It opens weekdays throughout the year from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  During Sundays, in the months of July and August, it will open from Noon until 3 p.m.

dscn4407

dscn4404dscn4393

The Town Park is adjacent to the Town Hall.  It gets hot at the beach, so this park is the perfect place to take a break; where you can sit, relax, and even work on your computer.  It is wireless and it is smoke free.

dscn4400

dscn4403

dscn4402

If you are a resident of Bethany or you are vacationing, please note that on Sundays, from 8 a.m. until Noon the Farmers’ Market will be right by the parking lot of the PNC Bank on Garfield Parkway and Atlantic Ave.  You cannot miss it, because Garfield Parkway is Main Street.

dscn4411

Bethany Beach is a very walkable town because is not very big.  You can go from the beach, to shop, eat, relax at the Town Park, or take the kids to the playground, or play basketball, all within a couple of blocks.

dscn4395

The perfect way to go out and about in Bethany is with your bike. You will find plenty of spaces to park it.

dscn4413

But, the Trolley will take you all through town and beyond.  It runs from Memorial Day through mid September, continuously, between 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Please note that the last pick  up on Atantic and Garfield is at 9:45 p.m.  On the half hour starting at 9:30 a.m.  Please note that during a lunch break or dinner break there may be little or no service daily from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  You can flag the Trolley down anywhere along the route for pick up or discharge, except on Rt. 26 and Rt. 1.  No pick-up or drop-ff on Jefferson Bridge or Rt. 26.  With a trolley far of only $.25 each way, you know you cannot beat that.  Also, the driver does not make change, so have your quarter ready. For more info, please call 302-539-8011 or check the schedule by visiting http://www.townofbethanybeach.com/index.zspx?nid=268.

dscn4435

It was great to see Bethany so crowded, because after a quiet winter it was as if it was screaming….Look at Me Now!!  Garfield Parkway was full of visitors, and so was the Boardwalk….the beaches?  Everywhere you looked the umbrellas were up.

dscn4443

dscn4448

dscn4441

dscn4447

All streets in Downtown Bethany Beach lead to the beach….make sure you read all the beach regulations.

dscn4445dscn4446

The weather for this first official week of the Summer of 2013 continues to be fantastic.  It almost makes you forget all the rain we have had lately.  Enjoy the beach, kick back and relax….that’s what you are here for!!

During the summer months in Bethany Beach there is no construction going on.  The town is sensitive to those that visit the resort and would like them to enjoy the area without listening to the banging of nails and the ins and outs of construction.

The lot at 313 Parkwood St. sits on a semi-dead end street.  It is walking distance to everything the town of Bethany Beach has to offer.  On this photo you can see the street looking east towards the beach and the second photo is the lot, which is 40 x 125.

dscn2133dscn2129

Construction on this lot will start in the fall of 2013.  Following are the photos of the house that will be built by Lane Builders.  It is a custom built home, 3,710 square feet of living space, 650 square feet of porches, 210 square feet of decks, 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, elevator, deluxe master shower, hardwood floors, ceramic tile floors in bathrooms, granite countertops in the kitchen.  It has 2,850 heated square feet.  Pre-construction price is $999,000.  Best deal in town.

Morgan & Gower Cheesemongers, Fine Foods, Charcuterie, Handcrafted Cheeses, Rehoboth Beach, Expanding our Cheese Library, Beemster XO, Barber’s 1833, Nettlesome, Geitost, Trioche, Midnight Moon, Grilled Cheese Sandwich Bar, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn2776dscn2778

I could not read Zach’s face when Jody and I made another appearance at Morgan & Gower, located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  He probably thought, OMG, they are back!!  Not only were we back but it was on a Friday, when National Cheese Day was being celebrated.

We were armed with our cheese reference book.  I keep it with me all the time.  Never know when an urge to buy cheese will surface.  It is the perfect record to keep.  I never used to remember what cheese I bought or liked.  Not anymore.

dscn2072

Enjoying an indulgence from time to time.  Cheeses are expensive, but a little goes a long way.  Cultures, milk, imports, refrigeration and most of all, the aging process…over 2 years, at times, send those prices up.

dscn2782

Jody and I are expanding our cheese buying techniques, and Zach, from Morgan & Gower, has been a big help.  He has taken the time to introduce us to a wide range of cheeses.  Some have more bite to them; others a bit milder.

dscn2796

The first time I was at Morgan & Gower I bought a couple of cheeses.  They turned out to be amazing.  I wanted some more of the same and a few other additional ones, as well.

Zach came out with one of my favorites…the Beemster XO.  This gouda from Holland is aged over 26 months.  So delicious.

dscn2783

dscn2785

dscn2787

I think Zach thought I would not like Nettlesome.  This cheese is from New Jersey.  It also has stinging nettles.  It is strong and has a great bite to it.  Stinging nettles is a curious plant.  If you had ever brush against it, you’ll know why it is called “stinging”.  The plant also has plenty of health benefits.

dscn2780

dscn2804

Barber’s 1833 is a Reserved Cheddar, aged for a minimum of 2 years, from England.  When I brought it home, it became a favorite.

dscn2802

I had to buy it again…Midnight Moon.  Tops…this cheese is from California.  It is a popular goat’s milk gouda, firm, dense and smooth.

dscn2059

Trioche…from New Jersey.  This cheese is made from cow, goat and sheep.  So smooth.  Liked it very much and will buy it again.

dscn2800

I will be buying Gjetost, aka Geitost again. – The color was a deep caramel; a sweet, dense, fudgey, caramel goat cheese.  It really looked like a piece of caramel.  I am not sure if Zach thought Jody and I would like it.  I loved it and so did everyone in my family.  This cheese is very popular in Europe.  We tried it for dessert; perfect with a tart apple.  Sorry….I don’t know what happened with my picture.  Have Zach show it to you when visiting Morgan & Gower.  He will give you a little taste.

dscn2788

New at Morgan & Gower, starting today, Saturday, 4/20, a Grilled Cheese Sandwich Bar!  They will be having a limited menu of 5 simple choices.  More to be added later on.  Take out only, with no substitutions.  You can check the menu on their facebook page.

Morgan & Gower Cheesemongers opens Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Sunday, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Tel. 302-727-5566.

Have a great week-end!!

Bethany Beach, Tidewater Realty, Sales, The Quiet Resorts, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware….Selling a Lifestyle!, Low Property Taxes!, No Sales Tax! A Walking Tour from 313 Parkwood St., Best Buy, Walking Distance to the Beach, Ready to Build!

dscn2176

In the 1900’s getting to Bethany Beach was a traveling adventure.  First you had to take off for Rehoboth Beach by railroad, continue by boat; crossing the Rehoboth and Indian River bays, keep on going to the Assawoman Canal, then by a 2-horse drawn bus.  It was exhausting.  Later on, in 1910, it was made a little easier with the dredging of the Loop Canal.  You could then, travel by boat from Rehoboth Beach and be dropped off right in town.

dscn2168

In 2010 the Loop Canal celebrated its centennial.  Hopefully, when you visit Bethany, you will have a time to stop and reflect on how easy it was for you to get there; the others took the long trip to this coastal town that since those days, still maintains that family atmosphere.

dscn2165

I think I can talk about Bethany Beach because from 1981 until 2000, I lived in Bethany.  My children’s playground?  That’s right….Downtown Bethany Beach!!  The town was a little different then; no alcohol, no pharmacy, and one grocery store; Gerald’s.  We, the residents did not know how to act when some of those things you take for granted made their first appearance.  Guess what?  It was not missed. We either went to Rehoboth Beach or Ocean City, Maryland.

dscn2153

Bethany Beach and Fenwick are considered quiet resorts.  I must admit that in the winter they are a bit quieter than Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.  Come summer, these towns are popular resort towns at the Delaware Beaches.

Living at the Delaware Beaches is living stress free.  It is definitely a care free lifestyle.  It is enhanced by the fact that Delaware has low property taxes and no sales tax.   The weather?  Actually, it is pretty good too.

dscn2180

One of the few lots available for sale in Bethany Beach is located at 313 Parkwood St.  This is a 40 x 125 lot. It is $599,000. The future owner of this lot could build a 4,000 square foot home on this lot. It is not in a flood zone and only 2 1/2 blocks from the beach, the shops, the restaurants, and the center of Bethany Beach.

The street is quiet and it is a semi-dead end street.

dscn2131

Let’s walk to the beach!

Parkwood Street looking east.  Beach is at the end.

dscn2133

Crossing Rt. 1.  To the left is the town.

dscn2137

You are almost there.

dscn2138

At the end of Parkwood..the ramp to the Boardwalk.

dscn2139

Parkwood Street is also the end of the Boardwalk.

dscn2140

Now, where should we park ourselves?

To the south of the Boardwalk?

dscn2142

Or, should we just place our beach chairs on the north side?  Decisions, decisions!!

dscn2143

Tons of beach, or, just walk the Boardwalk.

The Bandstand in Bethany Beach is the life of the town.  Summer concerts, gatherings or just people watching.  Ice cream, French fries..the works, is all there within walking distance.

From the Bandstand, the beach continues; never ending.  Looks like fun, doesn’t it?  Nothing better!  Even as I write this post I remember sitting at the beach all day long with the kids.
