At the Delaware Beaches and Ocean City, Maryland, the Events Continue in the Second Season….

 

Just to remind you that The Seaside Nature Center, in Lewes, Delaware, is open daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. year round. It will be only closed on October 19th – 26th, November 26th, December 25th and January 1st. Please call 302-645-6852 to pre-register for programs or for more information. All programs meet a t the Seaside Nature Center unless otherwise mentioned.

The Seaside Nature Center is located on 42 Cape Henlopen Drive inside the Cape Henlopen State Park.

 

In Lewes, Delaware at the Cape Henlopen State Park

Wednesdays from September 23rd – November 18th from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Bird Walks at Cape Henlopen.  Explore the birding hot spots with seasoned birders and Hawk Watch staff.  Please bring your binoculars and field guides.  Beginners are welcomed.

Saturdays – Hike the Trail Challenge at Cape Henlopen, at 11:00 a.m.  You will join the naturalist on a guided hike to be one step closer to completing the trail challenge and entering the drawing to win prices.  Call 302-645-6852 for directions and pre registration.

Saturday, September 26th – World War II Games for Kids, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Children ages 8 to 12 will go to Fort Miles and get real military training on hand signals, concealment exercises, code breaking, making firing trajectories, and much more.  Limited to 12.  $3.00 per child and pre registration is required by calling 302-645-6852.

Saturday, September 26th and October 31st – 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Lantern Tours of Fort Miles – Tour the gun battery by lantern light, exploring nooks, and crannies of the dark bunker.  Hear about its exciting role during WWII.  Limited to 30. $5.00 per adult, $2.50 per child.  Again, pre registration is required so please call 302-645-6852.

In case you are not aware, Fort Miles, is located in what is now Cape Henlopen State Park, which was a key part of the nation’s coastal defense during and after World War II.

For the programs of World War II Games for Kids and the Lantern Tours of Fort Miles you will need to Follow the directions to “Fort Miles” signs to the Historic Area parking lot.  Walk the paved road through the Cantonment Area to the Orientation Building, which is the large building on your right.

Saturday, September 26th at 1:00 p.m. – Nature Photography Workshop & Book Signing with Kevin Fleming.  Mr. Fleming is a renowned photographer and Delaware native.  He will give a narrative tour through his latest book, Wild Delaware.  Learn tricks about wildlife photography.

 

Rehoboth Beach

No more parking meters until next year and you are now able to make left turns in town.  What a relief!!!

Thursday, September 24th – Fundraising Event for the National Down Syndrome Society, at the Cultured Pearl on 302 Rehoboth Ave. They will start serving dinner at 4:30 p.m. and the Cultured Pearl will donate 20% of their proceeds. Reservations are recommended by calling 302-227-8493.

Friday, September 25th – Senior Beach Day – Healthy Living Expo at the Rehoboth Convention Center located in downtown Rehoboth Beach. 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Free screening and information.  There will be a Cheer Power Walk at 10:00 a.m. and for the first 250 registrants, free Beach Day T-Shirts will be handed out.

When donating $10 to Cheer, it will automatically make you a participant in the Power Walk through Henlopen Acres in Rehoboth Beach.

Friday, September 25th – Delaware Comedy Theatre Unbagged, at Wahoos Raw Bar & Crab Co., 19598 Coastal Highway, or Rt. 1, Rehoboth Beach.  Seating begins at 6:45 p.m. but show starts at 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  RSVP’s are required.  Call Wahoos after 4:00 p.m., tel. 302-227-6700.  Tickets are $5 per person at the door or pay online at www.delawarecomedytheatre.com and you will have seats reserved.  Please note that this is for an adult audience only.  Food and drinks are available for purchase separately.

Friday, September 25th – Film – “A Thousand Years of Good Prayers”.  The screening will be sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society.  At 7:00 p.m. Location: Upstairs at the Movies at Midway.  Admission is $2 for members or $4 for non-members.  For details visit www.rehobothfilm.com.

Saturday, September 26th – Funfest at Winswept Stables on Rt. 24th in Rehoboth Beach, sponsored by the Beebe Medical Auxiliary. 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Games, rides, horse shows, pony rides, petting zoo, and much more.  Free admission. Website is http://beebemed.org/html.news.

Sunday, September 27th – Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club is hosting the 3rd Annual Crab Feast at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.  All you can eat.  4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Cost is $60 per person in advance.  $30 for children 10-15 years old and under 10 are free.  At the door the cost will be $65 per person.  $10.00 for bottomless cup of beer; wine and other drinks to be purchased at the door.  The fundraiser is to benefit the charities of the Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club.  You can purchase your tickets at: MX Physical Therapy, Traders Jewelry & Gifts, and Mann and Sons.  For all information please call 302-745-1286 or e-mail info@swiftmgmt.com.

Every Wednesday there will be an Open Art Studio, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Join other RAL members in the Chambers Studio to create art together at your own pace.  $5 fee per session.

Sunday, September 27th – John Murray – Masterprint Maker.  He will demonstrate a variety of printmaking techniques, including relief printing (woodcut, wood engraving, and linocut) and intaglio printmaking techniques.

These are Creative Spirit Talks and there is no charge for the program.  2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Chambers Studio.

Exhibits at the moment are:  “Farmers’ Markets!”, members theme exhibit.  “Spaces of Silence”, mixed media by Michael Krausz and “Secret Garden”, pastels by Nick Serratore.

September 25th – September 26th – Elvis Festival – Featuring 2 days of Elvis Impersonators competing for $5,000 in Cash.  If you know an Elvis impersonator, and he is interested in competing, please have him call 302-227-3888, Ext. 134.  The festival will provide free hotel rooms and free meals to the Elvis impersonators.

I really thought Elvis was in Delray Beach, Florida, every Thursday night.  The proof is this picture of the King.  Thank you, thank you very much.

 

Ocean City, Maryland
