The air is crisp, the trees are gorgeous and at this time of the year the Historic Town of Lewes, Delaware is amazing. If you are visiting this week-end….check what’s going on!!

Friday, 11/16 – Delaware’s Ghost Towers, Silent Sentinels of WWII, at 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Lewes Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, located at 133 Kings Highway.  These towers are fascinating….they have seen it all.  The tallest one is 73 feet and the shortest is just 37 feet.  There are 11 in Delaware and 2 in Cape May, New Jersey.  The program will focus on how these towers served the nation’s coastal defenses.  Bill Grayson presents “Delaware’s Ghost Towers, The Coast Artillery’s Forgotten Last Stand During the Darkest Days of WWII.  Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Saturday, 11/17 – Sinterklaas at 2:00 p.m. at Zwaanendael Museum, located at 102 Kings Highway.  Sinterklaas is the patron saint of mariners in celebration of Dutch American Heritage Day.  Dutch-born, Jonathan De Jonge, a scholar at Temple University, portrays Sinterklaas.  More info?  Visit http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/netherlands.

Saturday, 11/17 at 2:00 p.m. – Critters of the Cape.  Discover what manner of native beasts roamed Cape Henlopen when the first Europeans arrived.  Learn why some vanished and others remained.  Ages 5 and up.  Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.  Limited to 40.  Pre-registration required by calling 302-645-6852.  Admission? $2.00  Meet at the Seaside Nature Center.  The park entrance fee is collected daily until November 30th.

Saturday, 11/17 at 7:00 p.m. – Leonid Meteor Shower.  Bundle up and keep your eyes on the sky to watch one of nature’s great displays.  Search the skies for other cosmological wonders.  Ages 7 and up with an adult.  Limit to 20.  Pre-registration is required by calling 302-645-6852.  Admission? $2/person.  Meet at the Seaside Nature Center.  The park entrance fee is still being collected until November 30th.

Saturday, 11/17 – MERR Annual Fin Raiser at 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., at the Lewes Yacht Club, in Lewes, Delaware.  The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. MERR stands for Marine Education Research and Rehabilitation Institute.  It is a “non-profit stranding response and rehabilitation organization dedicated to the conservation of marine animals and sea turtles”.  More info?  http://www.merrinstitute.org.

This is a fundraising event with live and silent auctions.  Live entertainment by 33 and 1/3.  Buffet featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres.  A brief presentation about marine animal strandings and conservation issues will be included in the evening festivities.  Tickets?  $40/person.  They can be reserved by calling 302-228-5029.  Or, email merrinstitute@gmail.com.

Saturday, 11/17 – Coastal Concerts from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., at the Bethel United Methodist Hall, located at Fourth & Market Sts.  The Ritz Chamber Players feature some of the world’s preeminent African American Chamber musicians.  They are based in Jacksonville, Florida.  The Ritz Chamber Players is the first all African-American chamber music group in the country to present a regular subscription concert series.  http://www.coastalconcerts.org
