I never miss an opportunity to see real estate. I guess that went with the territory for many years…my late husband, John, was a Broker and owner of his own real estate company in Bethany Beach. So, when my neighbor, Chris, asked me to go check Sawgrass North I jumped in her car ready to go. Sawgrass North is located at 35546 Betsy Ross Blvd., on Old Landing Rd. in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Sawgrass North is a Schell Brothers community. It is private, gated, and just by Rehoboth Bay. It has a clubhouse, pool, fitness, tennis and basketball courts. And….lawn maintenance is included.
Meet Adam Pettengell….He is the Community Sales Manager at Sawgrass North. Cel. 302-228-2719. Website? http://www.schellbrothers.com Email: adam@schellbrothers.com. His personality comes through as friendly, knowledgeable about real estate and what he is selling…and most of all a good sense of humor. Even though I could have taken his photo on site, I decided to use the portrait of Adam in the Master Bedroom. With that kind of personality, he can sell anything.
This 3,300 sq.ft. model home was already sold, completely decorated. Schell Brothers has an in-house designer.
The Tour…
The house has beautiful colors. The people that are moving to Sawgrass North are those that are completely new to the Delaware Beaches, and also those that are downsizing…so tired of the up-keep of a much larger home. They want more time to play and less time to spend working on the home.
If you do want to do some business from home, this area is perfect!!
The Kitchen is very open and conducive to entertainment.
The Living Room is spacious. Two views; from the first floor and from the loft area on the second floor.
Master Bedroom, First Floor.
If you would like to dine indoors…love the table and the finished look. Otherwise, outdoors on a beautiful day is the way to go. Outdoor entertainment!!
Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. They are beautifully decorated, reminding us that we are at the beach and fresh colors set the moods.
Bathrooms are comfortable and laundry room has everything needed.
Stop by and say hello to Adam….he really is so nice!!

A new exhbit at The Rehoboth Beach Museum features items that illustrate the history of the organization known as CAMP Rehoboth. With this exhibit Rehoboth Beach Museum honors the history of CAMP Rehoboth.
The organization, whose name is an acronym for Create a More Positive Rehoboth, was founded 24 years ago. CAMP Rehoboth is a LGBT community service organization that has grown from its original small office on Baltimore Avenue, publishing a 4-page newsletter to a nationally-known organization with a long list of services, activities, events and programs.
The once modest Letters from CAMP Rehoboth newsletter now runs anywhere from 88 to 120 pages an issue.
Visitors are invited to visit the Rehoboth Beach Museum to view past issues of the newsletter, photos and t-shirts from the early days of the organization.
The shovel used to break ground for the new community center is on display, as is a bumper sticker stating “Keep Rehoboth a Family Town”, a tangible example of the tensions in the community that led to the founding of CAMP Rehoboth. Also on display is a framed ceremonial copy of SB121 which added the words “sexual orientation” as a protected class under Delaware’s non-discrimination laws.
The Rehoboth Beach Museum is open 10 – 4 from Monday through Friday, 11 – 3 Saturday and Sunday. It is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue by the Rehoboth Beach Visitor’s Center and by the Roundabout. Admission is by donation. Call 302-227-7310 for more information. And, please visit http://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org

Looking forward to a cold, and snowy winter day at the Delaware Beaches. And, good morning to you too wherever you are. It is 9 degrees in Rehoboth Beach as I sat down to write this post. Can’t wait until this p.m. when temperatures will be soaring to a mere 18 degrees!! Love the changes in season, that’s why I can’t wait for Spring!! By the way, they say if you want to be warm today, you have to go to Phoenix, Arizona. No mention of South Florida.
It is what it is….so how about some Scrapple Muffins this morning. I am sure you have Scrapple in your refrigerator. Love the RAPA brand. The two brothers Ralph and Paul Adams many years ago developed it and it is the largest scrapple producer in the world. It is located in the town of Bridgeville, Delaware. Please note that you can order scrapple from RAPA from November through February. To read more about it, please visit http://www.rapascrapple.com.
I have made these Scrapple Muffins before. Besides the original Scrapple from RAPA, others are now in the market; Chipotle, Bacon, and their newest…Turkey Scrapple. It is really good and definitely lower in fat.
The recipe is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Want it hotter? Then add the jalapenos, just like I did.
First cook the scrapple….well done; crispy. Take out of frying pan, chop and save.
Chopped onion…about 1/2 cup.
Chopped pickled jalapenos…that’s your call.
Add to the onions in the frying pan.
Once that’s done, add the chopped scrapple.
The muffin mix can be store bought or you can make your own. Therefore, you will need eggs, and milk. I like evaporated milk because it makes a delicious muffin. Add 1/2 cup of grated extra sharp cheese. My pan was deep and 6 big muffins is all I could get.
Add the scrapple mixture to the muffin mix and pour into your favorite lightly greased muffin pan. Sprinkle with extra grated cheese.
It took about 1/2 hour or so to bake these muffins. Just test them by inserting a knife in the middle. If it comes out clean…they are ready!!
Take out of the oven….let them cool a bit.
Enjoy!!

Semra grew up in Turkey, and John, her husband, is Turkish but grew up in the United States. Together they have Semra’s Mediterranean Grill located at 19 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, just steps off the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. Tel. 302-226-4976. Website? http://www.semras.com.
John will be the first one to tell you that he is just a helper, that Semra does all the cooking. Soft spoken and very happy to see that the restaurant that they started not too long ago is prospering and becoming a favorite or many locals and visitors alike.
A counter for take out is right by the door, then a more casual dining area for eating. Their formal dining room is being remodeled and a bar is being added to the casual dining room, as well.
My friend, Chris, and I decided that an early dinner in Rehoboth Beach would be the thing to do on Sunday evening. We chose Semra’s and glad we did. This was not my first time at Semra’s. This restaurant participates in the Eating Rehoboth food tours. More info? Check http://www.eatingrehoboth.com.
Semra showed us our booth and looking at the menu I could not make up my mind.
Chris had the Lamb Shish Kabob, which had one skewer of char-grilled marinated lamb cubes served over a salad. Chris said the salad was great with a delicious dressing.
I had the Grilled Kofte which had patties of char-grilled lamb and beef with Turkish herbs and spices served over rice, yogurt, pita bread and veggies.
My patties were very moist. Semra mentioned that the combination is mostly lamb with maybe 20% beef.
Semra’s family sends her red crushed pepper from Turkey. You would think it would be so spicy but it wasn’t. It actually added a mild kick to the food. Very good.
The food was so fresh and settled perfectly. We were comfortably satisfied.
Check their website or Facebook Page. Entertainment at Semra’s includes belly dancing. They will be putting those event as dates become available.
Have a good One!!

A drinking fountain is a drinking fountain. What’s the big deal? I bet you are thinking, this post is going nowhere. Give me a chance, will you?
You have probably passed this drinking fountain on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk hundreds of times. You might have even taken a sip out of it on one of those Southern Delaware hot days.
The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain is a historic “temperance” drinking fountain. This is its story:
Muddied and ill-tasting drinking water encouraged many Americans to drink alcohol for health purposes, so temperance groups, which were private benefactors, constructed public drinking fountains throughout the United States following the Civil War.
The National Woman’s Christian Temperace Union’s organizing convention of 1874 strongly encouraged its attendees to erect these public temperance fountains as a mean to discourage males from entering drinking establishments for refreshments.
Beer was the main alternative to water. It was safer.
In 1929 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Delaware branch organization, the Rehoboth Beach “temperance” drinking fountain was constructed out of granite, measuring 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. In 1977 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
So, the next time you are walking on Rehoboth Beach’s award winning Boardwalk, enjoying your Boardwalk grub….check it out and if you are thirsty you know what to do.
Have a good one!
