“Be Irish For a Day”, The 5th Annual Milton, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant, Sunday, March 11th, Fundraising Event, Historic Milton, Delaware

dscn2510

Historic Milton, Delaware is just minutes from the towns of Lewes, Rehoboth, and Dewey Beach.  By minutes, I mean about, 15 or 20 minutes.  No big deal, driving through our roads is a breeze

As towns get bigger and more progressive and as residents fight to keep them real, Milton is a classic example of life in a small historic town.

“Milton’s history is written in its streets, its architecture, its relationship to the Broadkill River, its industrial heritage, and its image and reputation throughout Delaware and beyond.”

Milton was once a hub of the button cutting industry.  A multi step and labor intensive process that was global.

If you want to know more about this historic town who is also the home of the much loved Dogfish Head Brewery, please visit:

http://www.historicmilton.org.

www.ci.milton.de.us.

So, on Sunday, March 11 you can join Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant for the 5th Annual Milton St. Patrick’s Day Parade, in Downtown Historic Milton.   It will start at 2 p.m.  Lineup will be on Atlantic and Hazzard Aves.

Let’s raise some GREEN for the Milton Fire Department Training Program, Best Buddies Delaware and Casa San Francisco.

Check the website of the Milton Fire Dept. to know more about the training program at http://www.milton85.com.

Best Buddies Delaware’s mission is “to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intelectual and developmental disabilities”.  More info?  Visit www.bestbuddiesdelaware.org.

Casa San Francisco is also located in Milton.  It is an emergency adult shelter.  It also provides a wide range of services aimed at helping low-income residents of Sussex County.  More info?  Visit www.cdow.org/casasanfran.html.

This 5th Annual St. Patricks Parade will be fun for all ages.  So, get your green on!!  Stick around for the after party under the tent with Live Irish Music by Danny Quinn, food & beverages, beer trucks pouring Dogfish Head beer, Face Painting, Green Beer, 50/50’s, Irish (Chinese) Auction, Giveaways, prizes and so much more.

For more complete information, please visit www.irisheyespub.com.

Note:  Participate as a walker with a $5 donation and a canned/packaged food donation.

Thanks to all the generous sponsors and remember…..Celebrate Responsibly!!  Talk to you later.

Shopping…in Rehoboth Beach, Symmetry, Home Elements, Decor, Accents, Accessories, Delaware Beaches

Symmetry – “An imprecise sense of harmonious or aesthetically pleasing, proportionately and balance; such that it reflects beauty or perfection.”

Part of the fun of visiting the Delaware Beaches is shopping.  Downtown Rehoboth Beach is known for unique shops.  Don’t get me wrong, we do have some t-shirt shops; all beach towns have them.  That’s part of the charm, hmmm.

Anyway, my friend Jody and I were strolling around Rehoboth.  We visited Dogfish Head, Heidi Lowe, and then we came upon Symmetry.  I have to hand it to Jody.  She knew this store well.  The shopkeeper? Lee, was a friend.  We did not think it was open yet, but Lee came out and invited us in.

Symmetry has been in Downtown Rehoboth Beach for years.  It was originally located on Baltimore Ave.  This is a new location for them.  Just a few weeks ago they opened for business at 403 Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-260-9741.  E-mail symmetrydesigns@aol.com.

dscn2378

You cannot miss it.  A shingled house with striped awning.  Symmetry is a very stylish shop that carries primitive to contemporary home elements.

dscn2369dscn2367

dscn2370dscn2330

Lee was very excited to show us around.  Floors refinished; plenty of merchandise and I thought they were ready for the season.

Lee is behind the counter.

Lee is behind the counter.

Symmetry has accents for the modern house, and accessories to enhance one’s way of life.  You will find furniture, decorative bowls, vases, lamps, art, and even jewelry.

dscn2352dscn2356

dscn2326dscn2335

We found that it was an affordable store, whether you were buying for yourself or for a friend.

Lee was very easy to talk to.  And, so friendly.  I always mention that friendliness is a characteristic of practically all shopkeepers in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.

I asked Lee if Symmetry offered interior design services.  He said, yes.  If you are interested, please visit the store or call him up.

dscn2354

He pointed out that the shop tries to engage local artists and artisans.  They do have pieces from Delaware, Pennsylvania and even from Florida.  Some of the textiles on the pillows are made by one of the oldest mills in the country, in Pennsylvania.

dscn2361dscn2373

So here are more than a few pictures….let’s go shopping!!

Shopping…in Rehoboth Beach…Heidi Lowe, The Jewelry Studio, Contemporary Designs, Full Service Jewelry Gallery, Unconventional Pieces, Delaware Beaches

From time to time a friend drags me just like I might drag her….off we go; out and about.  Jody and I took to the streets in Rehoboth Beach to have lunch at Dogfish Head.  That post comes later.  From there we stopped at a jewelry store that appeared on AboutMyBeaches in 2009.  I liked it then, and that has not changed a bit.

dscn2323

Heidi Lowe, The Jewelry Studio is located at 328 Rehoboth Ave.  Tel. 302-227-9203.  Website?  www.heidilowejewelry.com.

What’s Going On? Delray Beach, Florida, Activities, Events, Village by the Sea, Palm Beach County

Good Morning Delray.  Cloudy or sunny in South Florida?  Does not matter because the following events and activities can be enjoyed in most any kind of weather.

IMG_1851

If you are awake, grab your cup of coffee and head out to downtown Delray Beach.  On Atlantic Avenue you will find this morning from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. the Delray Beach GreenMarket.  This Market is part of the Community Redevelopment Agency.  The resurgence of farmers markets offering homegrown produce, baked goods, flowers, and even music is a great way to start the morning.   The GreenMarket is right on this Village by the Sea, south of Atlantic on SE 4th Ave.  Can’t miss it.  Easy parking at this time of the morning.

dscn0518

After strolling the GreenMarket go east on Atlantic and stop just short of the Intracoastal Bridge, at Veterans Park.  There, you will find Artists in the Park, presented by the Delray Art League.  Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

dscn0530

Artists in the Park has been in the community for 47 years.  It is South Florida’s longest running outdoor fine art show and sale.  There is plenty of parking available.

And, since you are there, already, and probably exhausted of walking, strolling and shopping, then you might as well take a couple of hours and cruise on Lady Atlantic and Lady Delray; Delray Yatch Cruises.  It is an intracoastal cruise, north or south of it.  For schedule, information, prices and specialty cruises, please visit www.delraybeachcruises.com.  Tel. 561-243-0686.  I have taken the cruise and it was a relaxing way to spend a few hours; beautiful scenery.

dscn0633

Now that you are relaxed after your cruise, get back in the car and go west on Atlantic Ave.  A visit to the Cornell Museum would be a nice thing to do while in Delray Beach.  The Museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave.  It is in the restored 1913 Delray Beach Elementary Building, and, connected to the Crest Theatre building.

dscn0462

The Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Sundays from 1 until 4:30 p.m.  Closed on Mondays.  Check out the website http://www.oldschoolsquare.org.

IMG_1830

Granted, this week-end might be a little crowded near the Cornell Museum and that area of Atlantic Ave.  That’s because the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) are being held at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, 201 Atlantic Ave.  Tel. 561-243-7360.  Two websites to check if you are a tennis aficionado.  One for schedule is http://www.yellowtennisball.com/online2/schedule.html.  The other?  For special events and offers.   http://www.yellowtennisball.com/online2/special-events-a-offers.html.

IMG_1828

And, if all that fails, well……lunch and mojitos from Cabana will keep you very relaxed….

Have a good one!!!
