Old Shoal Food Truck, Lewes, The Freeman Stage, Selbyville, Music Venue, Trombone Shorty, Outdoor Concerts, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

All Summer long the Freeman Stage located in Selbyville about 4 miles west from Fenwick Island offers amazing shows for the whole family. Last night on a what I thought was going to be a rained out event, we were there to see Trombone Shorty. He is everything you can imagine a performer should be. The first thing he said was that it was so nice to be able to perform again.

It was so much fun and such a high energy performance. Trombone Shorty is best know as a trombone and trumpet player. He also plays drums, organ and tuba. He sings too, so a well rounded entertainer. A lot of fun and the perfect evening, as well.

There are still plenty more at the Freeman Stage. For more info., tickets, etc. etc. you can check their Facebook Page or their website

http://www.freemanarts.org

In the evening the shows start at 7 p.m. for the most part. Since I am also interested in what are we going to eat, you will find food trucks and also a grill inside the grounds. If you check their FB page they will tell you what food trucks will be there for each performance.

Perfect for last night the food truck that attracted our attention was Old Shoal Food Truck. They also have a Facebook Page. A creole menu for this week was exactly what was called for.

Joe was cooking but we talked to Sara who took our order. If you Google them it will show that they are in Exmore, Virginia. They have relocated to Lewes. Joe has been a chef in the area in the past at various establishments. So, the experience is there. They offer their services for private events, fundraisers and you name it, they can do it. This Sunday, tomorrow, they will again be at the Freeman Stage. If you are going please try them. The food comes out hot, deliciously seasoned and served with a smile on their faces.

We had the Crawfish & Crab Etoufee…crawfish, crab, green peppers, tomatoes and onions, served over rice with maque choux (creamed corn and other veggies; a Cajun dish) and jalapeno corn bread. It had a kick to it and if you want more of a punch there is plenty of hot pepper sauce to help you achieve that level.

All in all Summer 2021 continues to fly by. Enjoy your weekend.

Remember AboutMyBeaches has its own page on FB.

No, Patti Grimes, Executive Director, was not getting her hair done by no other than Drexel Davison, owner of Bad Hair Day in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  Actually, Patti was very well coiffed.  The Freeman Stage came to have a little wine, beer, hor d’ouvres, and to chat about what is very dear to their hearts….the Arts at The Freeman Stage at Bayside.

I thought that The Freeman Stage needed no introduction.  Everyone knows by now that this outdoor entertainment venue has been giving Southern Delaware memorable performances.  It is like Patti was saying….the first time you hear opera, the first time you see a ballet, the first time you see a live concert, it transforms you.  The legendary Bob Marley so well stated “One Good Thing about Music, when it Hits you, you feel no pain”.

Have you attended any of the peformances at The Freeman Stage?  It is located about 4 miles west of Fenwick Island.  The actual address is 31556 Winterberry Parkway, Selbyville, DE 19975.  Tel. 302-436-3015 Website? http://www.freemanstage.org.

Summer nights at the beach are unforgettable, more so if you attend one of the concerts at The Freeman Stage.  The Stage is quiet at times during the day, but at dusk it takes a life of its own.  People dance and how could they not?

The Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  It was established in 2007 to honor Josh Freeman after his passing on 2006.  Even though in Southern Delaware there is a lot of entertainment, this company set the tone for what is happening in the area.  Last year visitors to The Freeman Stage were in excess of 50,000.

During the day The Freeman’s Stage is quiet and peaceful.  The stage is small and cozy.  The laws are beautifully manicured.

Throughout the summer this venue offers live music for everyone. It is outdoors and listening to music under the stars is…..priceless.  Top national performers as well as local ones come to The Stage.  Is funny to hear the performers say that they feel like they are in someone’s yard.  Well, they sort of are.  Please check the schedule by visiting http://www.freemanstage.org.

Now, when Melissa Etheridge, and Blondie…ultimate classic rock stars arrived, and then followed a couple of days later by The Wailers…..this venue was everything but quiet.

Melissa Etheridge is a super star and an activist. Her voice continues to entertain so many of us that have known her for a long time.  She is on tour at the moment and her time at The Freeman Stage is not going to be forgotten.

dscn6032

dscn5986

When she sang I’m the Only One, I Want to Come Over, and Come to My Window among others the audience went nuts.  She gave it her all in every song.  And, believe me, it was steamy that night.

dscn6038

Blondie, another icon form the late 1970’s.  She had just turned 70!!!  The Tide is High, Hanging on The Telephone and Rapture brought all of us to a good cheer, remembering those days long gone.

I was out and about today with no direction in mind when I decided to visit The Freeman Stage in Selbyville.  This outdoor art venue is located at 31750 Lakeview Drive, Selbyville, DE.   If you are at the Delaware or Maryland Beaches the best way to get there is to travel on Ocean Highway to Fenwick Island.  At the intersection of Rt. 54 then go west for about 4 miles.  When you see Harris Teeter turn towards it. It is also the entrance to Bayside, a golf community on the water, and where The Freeman Stage is located.

img_3279

Upon entering the Bayside community then proceed straight on Americana Parkway.  The outdoor theatre is on Town Lake at the intersection of Americana Parkway and Lakeview Drive.

img_3283

Last year I had mentioned a few of the live entertainment that were on the schedule.  After seeing how pretty it was today, I am definitely attending some of them.  It must be gorgeous on a balmy summer night.

img_3280

It is an outdoor setting; not a big stage.  You can bring your lawn chairs, bug spray and blankets but leave behind your pets (unless service dogs are assisting patrons with disabilities) and your alcohol.  If you wish to purchase alcoholic beverages, then do so at the Freeman Stage Cafe.  No smoking, as well, and no recording equipment and cameras during the performances unless by authorized press and personnel.

img_3281

img_3282

The summer event calendar is out and you can take a look at it by visiting www.freemanstage.org.  If you decide you want to attend a performance, you can buy tickets through the website.  You may also purchase general admission tickets for $10 per person, per performance when the gates open at 5 p.m.   The website has all that info. and more.

If you need to call them, please do so at 302-436-3015.  You can find them on Facebook.

One thing to remember is that since this is an outdoor venue, it is subject to the weather.  You can visit their website for cancellations or call the above mentioned telephone number.

This will be their 4th season and the opening act will be on May 28th with a Memorial Day celebration featuring Zany Umbrella Circus.  It will be for the whole family.  Patriotic celebrations will highlight the day; circus illusions and acrobatics.  It will be on that Saturday of the Memorial week-end starting at 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.  It will be FREE!!

If you are a fan of LeAnnRimes, then she will be appearing on Saturday, 6/25 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are $40 plus.  The Freeman Stage is inviting all of us to spend an intimate evening under the stars with one of the biggest country stars.

You will be impressed with their schedule; a little bit for everyone to enjoy.

Have a great day…I am still digesting my Easter meal; I feel sluggish.
