What’s Going On? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Activities, Events, Modern Mixture, Cake Break, Sussex County, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches…..Waiting for Spring!!

The groundhog showed that it will be an early Spring!!…..waiting.  At the beach, life is different; some might even say we take our time doing things here in, Slower Lower….time does not move from hour to hour, but one mood to the moment.  So, if you are visiting Rehoboth Beach….this is What’s Going On!

Friday, 2/22 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents a showcase of this year’s Academy Award contenders for the Best Live Action Short Film.  You will have the opportunity to weigh in and cast your own vote for the winner.  This year’s slate of nominees include “Asad”, “Buzkashi Boys”, “Curfew”, “Death of a Shadow (Dood van een Schaduw)”, and “Henry”.  Admission is $4 for members with current membership card and $6 for future members.  You can purchase the tickets by visiting the website or by calling 302-645-9095, ext. 1.  More info?  Please visit http://www.rehobothfilm.com.

Saturday, 2/23 – In the past few years I have had very good friends diagnosed with breast cancer.  Thank God they are all doing well after going through treatments, very courageously, I might add.  Southern Lights of Life is an Evening of Living and Giving, sponsored by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware.  From Rehoboth Beach, it takes about 1/2 hour.  Dress code is Business to Glamorous.  Cocktails at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and Silent Auction.  The program, dinner and the Live Auction will start at 8 p.m., followed by the fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors as the models.  Tickets are $150.  Dover Downs is located at 1131 North DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.  For details and info., please visit http://www.debreastcancer.org.  Please note that this event is Kent and Sussex Counties’ premier breast cancer fundraiser.

Saturday, 2/23 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents an informative documentary entitled “Cafeteria Man” as part of their 2012-2013 “On Screen/In Person” film tour, which brings filmmakers and their films together to participating communities.  It will take place at 7 p.m. in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway, located on Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.  Tickets are $4 for members and $6 for future members.  Tickets can be purchased on line at http://www.rehobothfilm.com.  Or, you may call 302-645-9095, ext. 1.

This engaging profile tells the true story of a rebellious, charismatic chef from New Orleans, Tony Geraci, and his mission to radically reform Baltimore’s public school food system by replacing pre-plated, processed food with locally grown freshly prepared meals.  Geraci’s recipe for change takes him, and the audience, from Baltimore to the halls of Congress and the While House.  This film was first screened at the 2011 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival.

Until Sunday, 2/24 – “The Mousetrap” presented by Clear Space Theatre Company, located at 20 Baltimore St. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Celebrating its 60th anniversary in London this year, The Mousetrap will bring murder and intrigue right here to the beach.  The master of mysery, Agatha Christie, will keep you guessing until the very end, with a twist ending that you’ll be sworn to secrecy to keep.  Please visit http://www.clearspacetheatre.org for tickets and more info.

Thursday, 2/28 – Fusion Wine Dinner at Salt Air, located at 50 Wilmington Ave.  Tel. 302-227-3744. Their chef, Rebecca Krebs, is creating an exotic combination of foods to compliment the palatable blended wines for the evening.  Filling fast….the popular dinners in Rehoboth by the best restaurants are winter favorites.

And…..if you get hungry while shopping and strolling through Downtown Rehoboth Beach….Modern Mixture and Cake Break are two of my favorite places to stop by in downtown Rehoboth Beach.  It goes without saying that they are hard workers and their food is delicious.  But, you can decide for yourself.
