Bon Appetit, Restaurant, French and International Cuisines, Seaford, Delaware, Southern

It is a little bit of a hike from Rehoboth Beach and other beaches but it is so good that I follow my motto: Good Food, Will Travel.

Bon Appetit is located at 312 High Street in Seaford, Delaware. They open from 5 – 9, are closed on Monday. 302-629-3700. The restaurant has been in Seaford for over 20 years. Their motto is: Be Our Guest and Eat Well.

Karen and Chino are the owners. The menu changes often, they have specials but always those dishes loved by many stay on the menu.

The setting is intimate, the service is very personal and friendly.

My friends went all out to celebrate my big birthday on March 8th. What the heck I turned 70. It is a privilege to get older and celebrating with good food is always the best.

The butter presented this way evokes another time. The baguettes, well let’s say I could have butter, bread and wine and call it a day. Warm and crusty.

My country pate was delicious. I don’t make pate but it is a favorite when I think of French cuisine.

I don’t think these oysters were a favorite. You can’t be perfect all the time.

The duck is a must if you like duck. This evening it had a Grand Marnier orange sauce.

The green vegetable mousse accompanies every dish.

Three of us had the duck. A fillet mignon with blue cheese sour cream was ordered and was well received.

The Rockfish was a winner that evening. A local fish always great tasting.

Desserts not one but 3?. Bread pudding for some.

Flourless torte?

Creme Brûlée as my birthday “cake”.

A surprise the next day when my friend’s husband cooked breakfast including one of my favorites…Scrapple??

Hope every birthday is celebrated in your life with the closest to you.

Bon Appetit, Restaurant, Seaford, Delaware, French Food, The Food Gem of Western Sussex

It is going to be raining all week in Sussex County but a bright spot will be Bon Appetit, 312 Height St., Seaford, DE. Please don’t think I am not driving to Seaford. From Rehoboth Beach is about 45 minutes. But it beats sitting in beach traffic. And, plus you will get an amazing dinner.

T Cooper who was raised in Seaford introduced me to this restaurant. I have been dying to go back and last night we took off leaving behind the beaches for a drive across farmlands until reaching High Street.

The parking lot was full. First Day of Summer felt like Fall. The restaurant was crowded.

Their Motto is “Be our Guest and Eat well.” As you come into the restaurant you feel like being a guest in someone’s home. The photographs, the roses filling a vase and a single rose on each table. And tablecloth draped tables. Those details were not missed by me.

We spoke to Karen, the owner. Chino, her husband was in the kitchen working his magic. A few drinks to start.

The menu changes often but there are some dishes that are always offered because they are so good.

Let’s talk about Butter. Look how beautiful the butter on the table looks. It is one of those details that you can appreciate.

And by the way the French baguettes were warm. Just so you know.?

A traditional Onion Soup always on the menu. TC’s starter. It hit the spot on a rainy night.

I was debating because a few appetizers caught my attention. The Country Pate won. It was perfect. Thinking out loud how pate, French bread and a glass of wine is the best.

One of those dishes I mentioned that are always on the menu is their duck. On this night it was served with a pineapple sauce. TC will have a good lunch today as he enjoys his take home leftovers.

Debating between the rockfish and softshell crabs, our server without hesitation said sofshells. Our server was awesome ; knowing her menu well and maneuvering a restaurant full of diners with ease.

Softshells are my favorites and the first of the season. Very lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned, and pan fried. The best. So sweet. I took my time eating them because I did not want them to end.

Dessert? The Chocolate Mousse won me over but they have more than afew homemade desserts. It was smooth and not overly sweet. That’s how it should be.

I almost forgot to mention another detail. Ever since they opened the restaurant many years ago, every dish is accompanied by a vegetable mousse. It was a detail noticed on my first visit and once again noticed last night.

What can I say to finish my post? “Happiness Is Great Food and Great Company. “ The perfect recipe.

Please note that they will be closing on 7/2 until 7/17. Reopening on 7/18. For reservations please call 302-629-3700.

Bon Appetit, Seaford, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Western Sussex County, French Restaurant, Family Owned Restaurant, Good Food, Will Travel

Seaford, Delaware, is in West Sussex County. From Rehoboth Beach it is probably about 38 miles. It may be a little bit of a hike for some, but for me, “Good Food, Will Travel. And so my post begins with 4 of us taking off for Seaford. Mind you, even though 2 of them do not live there anymore, they do have strong ties to this town. Locals they are.

I apologize for the photo above. A bit blurry but at least you can see how pretty this brick building is.

These true locals tell me how wonderful it was to grow up in Seaford. It was a prosperous town located along the Nanticoke River. At one point it was voted to be the Best Small Town in America.

For many years DuPont was in this town. Seaford was also known as the Nylon Capital of the World.

Restaurants, Inns, golf courses, hospitals, Seaford had everything a small prosperous town would want. Unfortunately, a lot of that is now gone.

Hold it there, don’t discount this town as a lost cause. There is one restaurant that for 28 years has been and still is worth going. And, I just went to Bon Appetit for the first time last week. I remember people mentioning the restaurant, and how good it was. I just never visited.

Bon Appetit is located at 312 High St. You need to call for reservations to 302-629-3700. They open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. until 9 .m. Website? http://www.bonappetitseaford.net

Husband and wife team. Chino from Peru and Karen from NY. Please read about them on their website above mentioned. Everything is prepared in-house.

There is Karen on the photo. The restaurant was about to close and we were saying our goodbyes. Bon Appetit has tablecloths, lace, French prints and a comfortable atmosphere.

They have a great menu with appetizers like corn fritters, poached mussels, country pate, pickled herring, smoked bluefish and so on. Soups and salads including the French onion soup, chilled Gazpacho, etc.

About 9 entrees are offered along with a couple of nightly specials.

Desserts which we did not have are Profiterole, Chocolate Mousse, Creme Caramel and so forth.

For a Wednesday night it was crowded.

I don’t think I have been in a restaurant in recent years where the butter served looked like this. So glad that this presentation has not gone by the wayside.

You almost hated to touch it. Small rolls for the table.

Some photos I did not take but the smoked fish ordered was delicious. I had a bite.

The Chilled Gazpacho I did have. I can make a Gazpacho, as well, and there are many ways of making this traditional Spanish soup. This particular one was excellent. Don’t miss it when you go.

Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms were delicious. Almost could not get that photo.

Sauteed File Mignon with Diane sauce was ordered. Perfectly cooked and seasoned.

I knew even before I got to the restaurant what I was going to have. Tommy said that they were known for their duck. I order duck everywhere I go and this was one I was hoping was going to be as good as it was described.

Tommy and I had it and it did not disappoint. It was roast half of duck with a honey pear sauce. Crispy and great combination of flavors.

Ever since they started the restaurant every dish is accompanied by a vegetable mousse. You can see it in these photos. It is so good and a detail that cannot be forgotten.

No photo of the soft shell crabs, but they were big. Got great reviews too.

All in all a very nice evening.

The Rehoboth Foodie has written about Bon Appetit. And, when I told him where I was he said “LOVE Bon Appetit! Now, THERE’S skill”.

All I have to say is that I cannot wait to go back. Remember that driving around Sussex County is pretty easy. Fall is here pretty much so go out and try something new. You won”t be disappointed.

Enjoy!!
