Rooster’s Nest, Bayville Shopping Center, West Fenwick Island, Shopping, Fine Gifts, Jewelry, Home Furnishings, Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Locally Owned, Tax Free Shopping

In 2006 Rooster’s Nest opened its doors and it has become a must stop kind of a shop.  It is located at the Bayville Shopping Center on 37244 Lighthouse Rd., #108 in West Fenwick Island.  Easy to get to from all Delaware Beaches and Ocean City, Maryland.  Tel 302-436-1848.  Website?  http://www.roostersnest.com.

The Propietors are Sally Welsh and Bill Shoemaker.  You can find find gifts, home furnishing and one of a kind pieces.  All under one roof with very good price points.

So the other day I took a trip from Rehoboth to see what they were showing for Easter.  Weather is getting warmer, thank God, and Spring is here!!  That means a lot of us might want to refresh that certain room in the house, or buy something for friends’ birthdays; plenty of weddings are coming up.  Sally told me that they had just finished redoing the store.  The calm colors on the walls and the repositioning of furniture, it actually, makes it look bigger.  They have so many neat things.

Sally pointed to me these birdhouses she had just gotten in. And the little shoes that could be displayed in so many ways.

Love the forever greenery.  This is new to the store.

Paper placemats and table runners.  Are they are trend or are they here to stay?  They are sold in pads and there is so much to choose from for every occasion.  They look great and they are not that expensive, either.  You can use them daily, for small gatherings or big affairs.  And, they can transform a table from boring to super fun and elegant, as well.  And when finished, just throw them away.  Rooster’s Nest has some really fun ones.  They also have table runners.

Rooster’s Nest has a new line of bags….Katie Loxton from London. So affordable. Good looking too.  Fun, small bags that convey a message to a special friend, a mother, and for bridesmaids.

I toured the store with nothing in mind to buy but ended up getting a few things.  You cannot resist the tempetation.  Love the colors of blues for the summer.

The line of jewelry by Julie Vos is beautiful.  It is a little bit more pricey and the reason for that is that they are made of semi-precious stones, pearls and imported glass.  It is hand-set in 24k gold plate so it will not tarnish.  Made in the U.S.A.  The right accessory can make of break an outfit.  Keep that in mind.

Wishing you a very Happy Easter!!

Destination? Beach and Bay Cottage Tour, Bethany Beach, Delaware, Fundraising, Friends of the South Coastal Library, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Celebrating the 23rd Annual Beach and Bay Cottage Tour!!

dscn0820

It really is the only way to go……our own private Limo.  Making a day of touring the “cottages” in the Bethany Beach area.  It is the Quiet Resort and these owners open their doors under the care of the Friends of the South Coastal Library.

dscn0813

For 23 years this is an annual event, taking place the third Wednesday and Thursday in July.  It is always very well attended.  Many visitors and residents want to check out what others have done to their homes.  And it is held rain or shine.  When you tour the homes the brochure is your entry ticket and in it you will find every detail of the home, including the color palette, decorators, builders, and landscapers, as well as personal stories on the owners.  More info?  Please visit http://www.beachandbaycottagetour.com.

Our driver was Ty and he was great.  Took our photos, had lunch with us and took us from door to door.  On a hot day having a limo was just….priceless!  Inside the limo we got comfortable with snacks and bubbly.  Our group thanks Sandy, sitting on the left hand side, for making all the arrangements, including lunch at her home, which was quite a spread!

dscn0821

Many years ago, the “cottages” in Bethany Beach were summer places where many came to just relax….no air condition, just fans, and simple furnishings.  That has really changed with homes on this particular tour ranging from 1,400 square feet to 6,000 square feet.  For the visitors….booties were to be worn before going inside each home.

dscn0822

No photos were allowed inside the homes, but from the outside here are a few:

This house had an amazing view of the bay.  It was the largest home on the tour.  6,000 square feet with very open floor plans, a massive kitchen, and even a room for the dogs.  Multiple balconies overlooking the Assawoman Bay and a wide back porch and a bayside flagpole surrounded Adirondack chairs for sunset watching.  It was a New England style cedar shingle house.

dscn0823

dscn0824

Right on First Street in Bethany Beach this 2,500 square foot house was a Hamptons-style home.  The owners have been visiting Bethany Beach for 40 years.

dscn0825

This home in Sussex Shores was built after the owners had outgrown their cottage also in Sussex Shores.    It was a 4,100 square foot beach retreat, with open dining, kitchen, living areas, and great outdoor living space.  It had reclaimed white oak floors and the home was decorated with refurbished barn sale finds and the remnants from their old cottage.

dscn0826

dscn0827

dscn0828

We toured all 10 homes.  I found that the houses featured on this year’s tour were so completely different.  You were able to see the personality of the owners by the way their homes were decorated.  Accessories speak to the style of the family that lives in the home….and there were plenty.

A photo after we finished and were relaxing in the Sussex Shores’ home.

dscn0831

And, a last photo inside the limo, taken by Ty.

dscn0836

Oh no….the day was not over yet.  Our limo was gone but we all took off for shopping at Rooster’s Nest in Fenwick Island, on Rt. 54….a post in the making.

dscn0852

And an early dinner at The Lobster Shanty located on Rt. 54 in Fenwick Island, as well. View of the marsh, a breezy porch…orange crushes, mojitos, sangria, lobster and shrimp salad, lobster rolls, crabcakes, fish tacos, and lobster BLT!

It was dusk and I was driving over the Indian River Inlet Bridge.  The nigtht was clear and all I could think was how nice it was today.  The funny part was that some of the women knew each other but some, also, like me, only knew one person……new friends were made….and that’s a priceless, as well.

“After the design is firmly fixed, the decoration is added.  Decorating is the final enhancement.”   albert hadley

I finally made it to Rooster’s Nest.  Friends had told me again and again to write a post on this really neat shop west of Fenwick Island; just a couple of miles only.  It is in the Bayville Shopping Center, 37244 Lighthouse Rd., #108.  Tel. 302-436-1848, Fax is 302-436-1868.  Website?  www.roostersnest.com

The proprietors are William Shoemaker and Sally Walsh.  Rooster’s Nest is celebrating its 5th year in business.

As I came in, the first ladies I met were Dawn and Beth.  I introduced myself, like I usually do.  Having to get approval for me to take pictures, the owners were called and they agreed.  Dawn and Beth told me a little bit about the store.

img_7079

Everything in it is for sale, including the furniture pieces where merchandise is displayed.  Before I forget, they can store furniture within reason and there is free delivery, as well.  But, please do check with them.

At first look the store looked beautiful and fully stocked.  A sweeping glance of it told me that it was one of those “must stop” shops, here at the Delaware Beaches.  It is centrally located; a very easy drive.  It took about 20 minutes from Rehoboth Beach.

img_7135img_7096

I asked Dawn how she would describe the store and she did not hesitate to say “French Country”.  Just looking at the colors I could see those blues, yellows, reds and blacks that are so prevalent in the region of Provence, on the south east of France.img_7092img_7124

French Country has the feel of a warm and sunny place.  The store carries classic European and American merchandise.

img_7070img_7072 img_7098

I took so many pictures.  Could not help it.  Rooster’s Nest has the perfect finishing touches for the home.

Besides being able to find those decorating indispensables, you could find gifts for any occasions, including gifs for him.

img_7081

Products from Bella Cucina are perfect for a hostess gift.

img_7058

Something caught my eye.  The antique bottles on the armoire.  They were so unique.  They are made in Southern California by Jamie Dietrich.  They are authentic bottles from the 1800’s to early 1900’s.  They were decorated with handmade crystals and shell work.

I own a couple of Bossom Buddy bags.  They are made in Baltimore, Maryland.

img_7063

Plenty of gifts for the golf enthusiast; conversation pieces like the ball made out of Bobby Jones vintage clubs.  Also available were books, lamps among other items.

img_7085img_7145

Candles and soaps always make a nice gift.  Lotions and colognes from Rogert & Gallet, Paris.

img_7103

img_7141

The coast is a beautiful place to call home and it was well represented at the store.

img_7105

Even though summer is, officially, until the end of September, we can’t forget that Halloween and Thanksgiving are around the corner.  Already the store had decorations for that most anticipated times of the year.

img_7059

img_7095

Did anything catch your eye?  It still amazes me to see all the options we have when it come to shopping, dining, entertainment and activities.  So much have changed at the Beaches.  Lucky to call it home…..

Talk to you later…Guess what?…I do have extra pictures of Rooster’s Nest and they will be on Facebook on AboutMyBeaches…just in case you have missed something…

Talk to you later….
