The Rehoboth Beach Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach. Right by the roundabout and the Chamber of Commerce. It is a small museum full of the history of Rehoboth Beach. I always tell my guests that it is worth going because it tells you how this much loved town was and where it is going. Throughout the year there are events and exhibits.
Step Back in Time when the members and friends of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society are invited to revisit Rehoboth Beach in the 1950s and 1960s by attending a Sock Hop on Saturday, September 29th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
If you are too young to know what this is, local teens once delighted in the summertime Wednesday night “boardwalk dances” held at the foot of Rehoboth Ave., and the colder -weather “sock hops” held in the high school cafeteria. Year round, Snyder’s soda fountain shop on the Avenue was the place to be. As a local hang out for several generations, cherry and vanilla cokes and the house specialty “Bon Bons” are unforgettable sweet treats synonymous with Snyder’s.
Participants are encouraged to wear their dancing shoes (or go boardwalk barefoot style) and dance to oldie selections spun by a local DJ. Requests will be taken. Acceptance is limited. It is that time of the year when our beaches get a well deserved rest…..hahaha….I don’t think so. That happened so long ago, I do not even remember. If anything, every week there is something to do besides a walk on the Boardwalk, chilling out, reading, listening to live music…..so What’s Going On?

Wednesday, 10/5 and Thursday, 10/6 – THE BEATLES: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK. This is a new documentary by Ron Howard. Remember him? Happy Days! The touring years is based on the first part of The Beatles’ career (1962-1966). It is the period in which they toured and captured the world’s acclaim. Ron Howard’s film explores how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become this extraordinary phenomenon “The Beatles”. Screening times are at 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater starting 30 minutes before each screening. Admission is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. This is the 6th annual Dewey Goes Pink event. Race registration opens on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The race will begin at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, now surpassing $225,000 in the first 5 years. Sunday, April 19th – Children ages 5 to 8 are invited to join the Rehoboth Beach Museum from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. to learn about Sea Folklore and create a friendly sea creature out of inexpensive materials. Please call 302-227-7310 to save a spot for your little seafarer.
Saturday, May 2nd – My Doll and Me Tea party for girls 6-12 years of age. Young ladies are invited for an afternoon to share with others their favorite dolls on Saturday, May 2nd, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Ice tea, lemonade and sweet treats will be served.
Girls will play and learn old-fashioned games such as hop scotch, marbles, cat’s cradle and hula hoop. Each girl will be invited to tell a special story about her doll. Girls are encouraged to dress up and to dress their dolls in their best outfits.
The cost of the tea party is $10 and includes admission to the museum, refreshments and games. The event is limited to 15 girls with one doll each. Please call 302-227-7310 to make a reservation. Thursday, May 7th – Join the Rehoboth Beach Museum for an evening of great memories at 7 p.m.. They will be pulling some photos out of their collection, featuring folks who are not identified. Saturday, May 23rd – Opening of the new exhibit that celebrates who made Rehoboth Beach great!! 11 a.m.
Check this out!!! The Rehoboth Beach Museum has partnered with Discover Bank and the local Boy and Girls Club to help build futures one Lego piece at a time. Dicscover Bank provided funds so that Rehoboth Beach local, Lydia Hastings, graduate of the University of Maryland Civil Engineering program, could create a great environment for future engineers to learn about Lego NXT Mindstorm Robotics. The Museum seeks to link the kinds of engineering tasks that it took to cut, move and store ice in the old ice house, which the museum now occupies, with today’s engineering tasks completed by robot.
Recently, Lydia held a Lego Robotics course at the Boys and Girls Club of America Epworth United Methodist Church location, and it was a resounding success. The first class learned about the different Lego robotic sensors and even how to program their robots to accomplish different tasks. They had a ton of fun!! Next one will be in May….stay tuned.

I believe the photo is circa 1906 on Rehoboth Beach, Delaware….an award winning Boardwalk. Since those times it has been the life of the town, strolling the boards with the Atlantic Ocean as the view!!
We have come a long way, but still the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk offers its visitors and residents a relaxing gathering place. Some walk it, jog it, or even bring their dogs to it.
In the evenings, summer visitors gather at the Boardwalk for rides, games, and favorite Boardwalk Grub!!
WALKING TOUR; A GENTLE STROLL
Thursday, October 9th – Last walking tour…A 45 minute gentle stroll around Downtown Rehoboth Beach. It starts at 9 a.m. at the Bandstand. The cost? Only $10. Reservations are required and you may do so by calling the Rehoboth Beach Museum at 302-227-7310. The tour provides general information about the history of Rehoboth Beach, while touching on several of the storms that have shaped the coastline and this beachfront town. Walkers will be led from the Bandstand along Rehoboth Avenue, pointing out landmarks and providing photos of historical sites and events.
So, look for the lady with the PINK Parasol at the Bandstand. You can bring your own too, if you have one to show it off!! They think they have to most awesome one…..they are just sayin’.
JOLLY TROLLEY HISTORY TOURS
Just like they have been doing for the past few years, The Jolly Trolley joined forces this summer and fall with the Rehoboth Beach Museum to offer special tours of the Downtown area. From the comfort of the inside of The Jolly Trolley you explore the town. The cost is $10, cash only, please.
Two tours will be taking place on Friday, October 24th, which is the beginning of the Sea Witch Festival. One tour will start at 9 a.m. and another will start at 10 a.m. Reservations are required. Please do so by calling 302-227-7310.

Second Season at the Delaware Beaches is really nice. Everything is open, no meters, except in Lewes, cooler temperatures…..and an amazing shoreline.
I have taken a few days here and there to do some Fall Travels….plenty of people take this time of the year to visit resorts, island, etc. etc. that otherwise would be packed during the summer months.

Directed by Steve James and produce by Martin Scorcese and Steve Zailian, Life Itself recounts the inspiring and entertaining story of film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert. Based on his memoir of the same name, the movie tells of his journey, from school newspaper reporter, to movie critic, to Pulitzer Prize winner, to t.v. household name, to the finding love at 50, and finally his “rhird act” as a major voice on the internet when he could not longer physically speak. Proclaimed by many to be the best documentary of the year. This is a must see for anyone who loves movies.
There will be a post film discussion at the Movies at Midway with William Nack, a close friend and colleague of Roger Ebert for over 50 years.
FRIDAY, 9/28 – REHOBOTH BEACH MUSEUM FALL OPEN HOUSE – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum, 511 Rehoboth Avenue. Refreshments will be served. This will be an opportunity for locals and visitors alike to go through the Museum at your own pace. The latest exhibit “Cruisin’, a historical look at not just toys on wheels, but an important mode of transportation for some, as early as 1817. Through the years Rehoboth Beach has been called the “Most Popular Beach in America”.

Getting to know Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is getting even easier these days thanks to the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society promotes education about the history of this very popular coastal town, which is a destination for many on the east coast who want to get away from the summer heat in cities. Rehoboth Beach is one of those towns that can call itself a year-round resort.
If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach and would like to know more this is what you can do….The Jolly Trolley, which is the best way to get around this busy town, has teamed up, just like they have been doing in the past, with the Rehoboth Beach Museum for guided tours of the city. Tours begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately 50 minutes. The Trolley Tour will start and end at the Anna Hazzard Museum located at 17 Christian Street in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.
The cost of the tour is $10, cash only, which also includes entrance to the Anna Hazzard House and the Rehoboth Beach Museum. Reservations are required. Please call the Museum at 302-227-7310.
Next tour will be Thursday, June 19th. Other dates are: August 21st, September 4th, September 18th, and Ocotober 24th of Sea Witch Weekend. On Sea Witch Weekend they will add an extra tour at 10 a.m.
This is a fun and relaxing tour. Visitors and locals will experience first hand pieces of the history of Rehoboth Beach such as the birth of the town as a Methodist Camp Meeting site, and its growth as a resort town. Learn about shipwrecks, submarines, storms and sand dunes.
The Jolly Trolley began its first runs in 1970. It began when a group of locals wanted to have a means of transportation that would let visitors get a feel for the sights, smells and different experiences of two resort areas; Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach….the rest is history. If you decide that what you would like to do is walk….then, the new Walking Tour of Rehoboth Beach might be the thing to do. This town is very walkable. The tour will feature a 45 minute gentle stroll around Downtown Rehoboth Beach. It will start at the Bandstand, at the end of Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk at 9 a.m.
The first tour will be on Thursday, June 26th. The cost will be $10. Reservations are requried and you may do so by calling the Museum at 302-227-7310.
This tour will provide general information about the history of Rehoboth Beach, while touching on several of the Storms that have shaped the coastline and the beachfront in town. Tour Guide, Jean Brolund, will lead walkers from the Bandstand north of Rehoboth Ave., point out landmarks and providing photos of historical sites and events.
Some of the topics that will be covered are the Native peoples of the area, The Methodist Camp Meetings, Hotels and Railroad service, and Horn’s Pavilion. Future tours will cover the area south of Rehoboth Avenue.
Make sure you take notice, The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain constructed in 1929 and added in 1977 to the National Register of Historic Places. Wear comfortable shoes, take a bottle of water or fill up a water bottle at The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain. There are restrooms available at the Bandstand area.

And hello to you too!! Welcome to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Have you seen the new mural that has been added to the front of the Rehoboth Beach Museum? It is a dramatic “Dive Into History” mural…..A Mermaid!!! Look at it….it is a bright red, vintage bathing-suited diver, with bathing cap and all.
Nancy Alexander is the Museum Executive Director and she states that “While we have always felt that the Museum needed better signage to attract visitors as they drive out Rehoboth Avenue, we’ve wanted to make sure that the images themselves match the history of Rehoboth Beach. What could be more perfect than a large mural celebrating swimming at the beach, and promoting the idea of delving into the history of Rehoboth Beach.”
The Rehoboth Beach Museum is expecting a large turn-out of visitors for the upcoming seasons. The mural stands as a visual icon of Rehoboth Beach’s past and present charm, Nancy mentioned.
I think that for many that have loved to come to Rehoboth Beach for so many years….a stop at the Museum will inform you about this coastal town’s past, and how it really has become a destination year-round.

CRUISIN’ EXHIBIT OPENS SATURDAY, MAY 24th.
Cruisin’ at the Rehoboth Beach Museum celebrates the historical perspective and joy of playing with toys on wheels. You are invited to relive memories of recreational times of the past, and enjoy this exhibit of vintage bicycles and toys with wheels on loan from local collectors.
The photo above is of a cast iron motorcycle, most likely made by the Hubley toy company in the 1930’s and will be on display at the Cruisin’ exhibit.
And what further can you expect from this exhibit?
You will see a Scooter Skudder Ball Bearing Car, made around 1919 by the Janesville Products Co. in Janesville, WI, a 1950’s Ladybug Riding Toy, created by Margarete Steiff of Giengen, Germany, that has a seat cover made of Mohair stuffed with straw and was enjoyed by toddlers, and a Fire City Battalion #1 fire truck, made by the Murray Co. in Ohio.
Bicycles on display will include a Western Flyer Speedline Airflo Bicycle first manufactured in the 1930’s, and a 1953 Roadmaster. Toys will include cast iron motorcycles, metal trucks and cars.
SATURDAY, JUNE 14th – The Wheelman, a national vintange bicycle organization will, in conjunction with the Cruizin’ exhibit, present a day-long demonstration of vintage bicycles in Grove Park located right by the Museum and Visitor Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Wheelman is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping alive the heritage of American cycling, promoting the restoration and riding of early cycles manufactured prior to 1918, and encouraging cycling as part of modern living. Mor info.? Please visit http://www.thewheelmen.org.

The rain event at the Delaware Beaches has left Rehoboth Beach with beautiful weather, today, Saturday….it is the perfect place to walk, shop, dine, and stay awhile. So, what’s going on?
The Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival takes place every year in the fall. Festival film submissions are due on June 28th, but reduced rates are available for films received by June 1st.

Saturday, May 17th – KICK-OFF SUMMER PARTY – Rehoboth Beach Historical Society invites you to stop by and kick off the summer season with a canal-side party at the Rehoboth Beach Museum. The party will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, take chance on winning raffle prizes, purchase plants, and join as they present the Hall of Fame award to former City Manager Greg Farrese. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Raffle tickets can be purchase at the event and are 3 for $5 or 7 for $10. Raffle items include theater tickets, jewelry, and gift cards to local retail stores. The Rehoboth Beach Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue, by the roundabout.
