On March 19, 1891 it was first called Cape Henlopen City. In 1893, the name was formally changed to Rehoboth. Since then, Rehoboth Beach has been welcoming thousands of visitors not just in the summer, but year round. It is a destination for many, and for a lot of us, it is also home. Living at the beach is great, and, believe me, I do not take it for granted.

Wednesday, April 8th – READ A MOVIE – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Beach Public Library invite film and/or literary enthusiasts to Read a Movie screening of “The Duellists” at 4 p.m. in the upstairs community room of the library. Based on the short story, “The Duel” by Polish-born writer Joseph Conrad, this film depicts a historically accurate account of early 1800s France. This screening is part of the monthly Read a Movie series in which members read a little-known short story in advance of the screening, then gather to watch the film and share their thoughts about how well or not so well the story was expanded to the big screen. Friday, April 10th – 5TH ANNUAL “GET DOWN IN TOWN” – Shop & Eat…all for a good cause!! 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. everyone is invited to downtown Rehoboth Beach for this event. Friday, April 24th – REHOBOTH BEACH FILM SOCIETY APRIL’S MONTHLY SCREENING – RBFS presents this year’s Academy Award nominees for Best Animated Short Film. The screening will be held at the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway on Coastal Highway. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A rare opportunity to enjoy one of the most entertaining categories at the Academy Awards-Best Animated Short Film. Sunday, April 26th – BIG FISH GRILL 5K TO BENEFIT LOCAL COMMUNITY – 3rd Annual event. Race start for runners and walkers is 8:30 a.m. in front of Big Fish Grill on Rt. 1. Delaware is such a small state, but widely known to have a big heart. Downtown Rehoboth Beach is one square mile full of restaurants, shops, and galleries, and entertainment. Let’s not forget that it is a destination for year-round fun. A wide beach, an award-winning boardwalk…and even though the restaurants serve unique and amazing foods….the Boardwalk grub will have you come back again and again. It’s true.
“Get Down In Town” is such a fun event. On Friday, April 4th, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Rehoboth Beach Main Street will host this event that is now in its 4th year. It is a special evening of really great deals, accompanied with fantastic appetizers and desserts from your favorite restaurants inside participating downtown Rehoboth shops.
To be a part of this one-night charitable event of discounts and food, you can purchase $10 glow necklaces. Proceeds from the sale of the necklaces will go to Rehoboth Elementary School’s PTO and RICI which is Rehoboth Inspired Chefs’ Initiative. This is a great time of the year to get out of town and visit the Delaware Beaches. They are primping for what is expected to be a great 2013 season.
Restaurants are open, shops are always open…shopkeepers are the best!! The Boardwalk is right by the beach…exercise, breath that salty ocean air…kick back and relax.

Friday, 4/5 – Opening Reception for Art is Healing, Healing is an Art, a juried fine art exhibition that you can see at the Rehoboth Beach Art League until April 28th. The Opening Reception is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., free and open to the public. It is hosted by SOAR, Inc. (Survivors of Abuse in Recovery, Inc.) http://www.survivorsofabuse.org, and the Rehoboth Art League, http://www.rehobothartleague.org.
Through the centuries art has been an influencing force in calming the mind, soothing the soul, and flexing the mind and body. This exhibit celebrates the healing power of art. A curated exhibition will be on display in the newly renovated Chambers building. Artwork will be available for sale to the public through the Rehoboth Art League.

The Delaware Beaches are a year-round destination. No, no we don’t roll up the streets during the winter. These coastal towns are busy, offering its visitors great dining, shopping and relaxation.

Yes, I was wondering also…what is it? A start-up women’s roller derby league established here in Sussex County, Delaware. All female flat track roller derby league that began in April, 2011.
They hold practices at the Milford Skating Center, located at 1 Park Ave., Milford, DE, Monday 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Fees are $45/month or $10 per practice., plus skate rental if you are renting skates.

The Beach should be the destination!! The Delaware Beaches are cleaning and sprucing up for what it is hoped to be one of the best seasons. Summer!! Rehoboth Beach is also one of those coastal towns that can offer so much to its visitors and residents.
April 1st will be “Get Down In Town”. It is the first event of this nature. From 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. you will find great deals in your favorite Rehoboth Beach stores and restaurants.
