Rehoboth Beach Eats! Shorebreak Lodge, Restaurant, Bar, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn1912

A full plate is becoming a thing of the past.  Eating tapas style is a more adventurous and delightful way of sharing a meal with friends.  And, that’s exactly what Sharon, Richard and I did on Wednesday evening at Shorebreak Lodge, located at 10 Wilmington Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  Tel. 302-227-1007  Website?  http://www.shorebreaklodge.com

Glad I made reservations, because, my new go to restaurant was so crowded.  Great drink specials, lively atmosphere, close to the Boardwalk…and excellent service, as well.

Our stimulating dinner conversation had us laughing, practically, all night.

Shorebreak Lodge is offering a very eclectic menu.  There is something for everyone, even for some of us that like to try dishes that are considered je ne sais quoi.

For the table:

Burrata Mozzarella with Butternut N Figs.  Burrata is from the Italian region of Puglia.  It has a milky flavor and several textures, as well.  The outer layer is spongy but, inside, it is creamy and also very spreadable.  Great with crusty bread.  This dish is awesome!!  Totally recommend it.

dscn4843

Shrimp N Grits with Chorizo, Tomato and Anise Sauce.  Love it when grits have a smooth consistency and are full of flavor.

dscn4844

Brussel Sprouts, Bacon & Dried Figs….combining cabbage flavor, the saltiness of bacon and the sweetness of figs. Yum!

dscn4842

Roasted Butternut Squash, just a simple dish to add to our grazing.

dscn4845

Rehoboth Beach is a culinary destination….so many restaurants, so many chefs outdoing each other in friendly competition.

Have a great a week-end!!

Crawling! a(muse.), Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Tasting, Burratta, Potted Chicken, Live Scallop, Soft Shell Crab, A Gourmand’s Heaven!!, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Rehoboth Beach Eats!

“”Gourmandise is an impassioned, rational and habitual preference for all objects that flater the sense of taste.”  brillat-savarin

Meet Hari Cameron, Chef and Owner of a(muse.), located at 44 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  Tel. 302-227-7107.  Website?  http://www.amuse-rehoboth.com.  In this photo Harri was making mozzarella in front of all of us that were participating in the Eating Rehoboth tour.  Even though I have only spoken to him a few times, my impression is that he loves to teach.  His passion?  Food…he does play golf, as well.

dscn4072

A crawl in Rehoboth Beach is a must if you are visiting the area or if you are a local.  It is the best way to savour what downtown Rehoboth Beach has to offer.  A little shopping, a little sipping, and a little tasting.   Our destination?  was a(muse.).  It was a week ago Monday.  What a way to start the week….our crawl was a total success.  Well, my friends, Madelon and Cindi thought so too.

dscn0979

The bread brought to our table was delicious.  I usually tend not to eat the bread but a taste of it sprinkled with sea salt and the olive oil had me tasting a few slices.

dscn0965

We were sharing our courses….tastings!!  Burratta is Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream.  The outer shell is mozzarella, but the inside is a combination of mozzarella and cream.  It is unusually soft in texture.

dscn0966

Our next course was Potted Chicken.  Foi grass, port and whiskey…Perfect for sharing.  Unique taste and presentation.  Mix the potted chicken to get all those flavors immersed.

dscn0967

So far this is how my plate was looking. Burratta and Potted Chicken.

dscn0969

Madelon and I decided to get the Live Scallop.  Both of us loved this dish.  Fresh live scallops are so delicate and sooo good….Borage, dill flower, fermented cucumenter and roe.  That roe was a perfect compliment to the scallop.

dscn0971

The Soft Shell Crab with new potato, mustard and bone marrow….was also very delicate.  The bone marrow was a surprise.

dscn0972

I had been told to get the Bone Marrow Oreos, served with sweet silver corn milk.  So, take a good look at the photo.  They looked like oreos, they tasted like oreos, but they were made out of bone marrow…everything.  At this point, Hari stopped at our table to chat.  So impressed with the oreos and we let him know how good everything was, including the service.

dscn0977

From store to restaurant to store and back to restaurant….it was a great evening in Downtown Rehoboth Beach with friends.   Then, off they went to O.C.

dscn0978

Try Crawling Rehoboth….fun!!

Note:  This restaurant is sensitive to customers with food allergies!!

Rehoboth Beach Eats, Modern Mixture, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Latin, Mediterranean, Salads, Burritos, Quesadillas, Tamales, Smoothies, Wines, Spirits, Specialty Drinks, Coffee, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, “Come Enjoy the Yum!”

dscn5391dscn5390

When Leo says “Come Enjoy the Yum”, he is not just saying that for the sake of talking.  He means it.  Modern Mixture is located at 62 A Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.   Leo has been cooking away, offering his customers, fresh, healthy and delicious food.

Modern Mixture is part of the restaurant scene in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  It encompasses everything you want from the customer’s point of view.  The restaurant is lively, Leo, his sister, and staff always have smiles on their faces.  Their food?  Yummy!!  Their enthusiasm is catching.

dscn5389

You can call 302-227-0600 and ask Leo what’s cooking today.  You can dine, or take out.  Leo has some awesome specialty drinks, and wine, as well.  The website is http://www.modern-mixture.com.  Modern Mixture opens in the Second Season at 10 a.m.  Leo has fresh brewed coffee every day and an espresso bar.  Modern Mixture is closing on Tuesday at this time of the year.  But, if you do need something special, make sure to give Leo a call even if it is on Tuesday.

dscn5384

So, on Thursday, Modern Mixture was exactly what I needed.  I showed up very late in the day, and very hungry.

After a few hugs and personal chatting Leo told me that he had just finished making tamales.  He had been changing his recipe a bit and I wanted to try them.

I chose to drink Leo’s Agua de Jamaica.  Jamaica is hibiscus sabdariffa.  In Mexico hibiscus blossoms are called Jamaica.  The drink looked and tasted like pomegranate juice.  Just like pomegranate juice, it is also full of Vitamin C, a good diuretic and excellent for the digestion.

dscn5386

My tamales had a filling of jalapeno, queso (cheese), and tomate (tomato).  They were served with Leo’s Middle Eastern Chopped Salad, which had mixed greens, falafel, quinoa salad, radishes, feta cheese, cucumber with a lime mint-herb vinaigrette dressing.

dscn5388

When I took the first bite of the tamal, I stopped to enjoyed the flavors and spices and then I felt my taste buds starting to dance.  I told Leo they were his best.

I ate it all and then Leo wanted me to have flan…I resisted that temptation and left it for another time.

Leo and his sister were so nice to me on a day that I needed it the most.  They are friends and I thank them so much.

John would have loved those tamales…..they werre gluten free!!

Have a great day!

Corner Grille, American Food, Authentic Greek Cuisine, Eat In, Take-Out, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Restaurant, Review, Falafel, Tzatziki, Gyros, YUM! Serving Breakfast All Day Long!, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn3174

Such a friendly smile; it said a lot.  I loved it because it was Mother’s Day when my son and I chose Corner Grille in Downtown Rehoboth Beach for our special lunch.  We could have had breakfast but we knew what we wanted; Greek food.  We had been told what to ask for.  Steve and Rene, local foodies, are customers of this restaurant that has been in Rehoboth Beach since 2009.  Nothing better than word of mouth.

I kept thinking where have I seen her?  It was Soula who owns Alterations by Soula on Coastal Highway.  She is a friend of the family and was helping on Sunday.  Great to see her.

dscn3158

Corner Grille is located at 11 South First Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-227-7653.  Website?  http://www.cornergrillerehoboth.com.  It is a family owned and operated restaurant.  Corner Grille offers breakfast all day long, lunch, eat in our take out.  Pretty soon, as the season opens, they will also be serving dinner. At present, it opens from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Catering is available and if you like it a lot, they have gifts certificates, as well.

Two dining rooms are available.  The restaurant is casual. George showed us our table.

dscn3166

We decided to start with an order of Falafel.  These well seasoned fritters or croquettes are made out of chickpeas, fava beans or both.  They were delicious; crispy on the outside with a soft center.

dscn3160

We asked George to bring us an order of Tzatziki sauce with pita bread.  I love this sauce.  It is a blend of yogurt, sour cream, cucumber and garlic, incorporating at times, lemon juice, dill, parsley or mint.  It is a versatile sauce, used as an appetizer or a side dish, and served cold.  The pita was warm and the combination with the sauce was perfect.

dscn3159

My son and I, both ordered the same thing.  The Gyro!!  The correct pronunciation?  “Yee-roh”.  Known to be the best in town.  I did not know that the Gyro is considered an American-Greek sandwich, originating in New York in the early 1970s.

To me the perfect Gyro is made out of lamb, sliced; not ground.  The slices of the lamb are then served on the bread, topped with garnishes, Feta cheese, and….Tzatziki sauce!!  That’s how it came out.  It was so delicious!!

dscn3164

My son and I enjoyed every bite and we were totally satisfied.

Corner Grille has a full menu, from the traditional breakfast, to salads, burgers, and Greek specialties…they also have a kids menu.

dscn3167

George and Irene, and the rest of the family were great….they sent us home with some of their homemade rice pudding!!

dscn3184

Affordable, delicious, great service!!!  What are you waiting for?

dscn3175

Note:  The Board says a lot!

Breakfast? Lunch? Robin Hood Restaurant, Review, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches…Since 1968!! Restaurants come and go; Robin Hood Restaurant is an Institution in Rehoboth Beach!

dscn1906

I was looking for the perfect place to have breakfast on my birthday on Friday.  It was not such a hot morning at the Delaware Beaches; right after the storms, still a little rainy.  It was quiet in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  I found the perfect place.

Robin Hood Restaurant is located at 54 Rehoboth Avenue; the ocean block.  Tel. 302-227-0770.  At the present time, it serves breakfast until 3 p.m., with lunch starting at 11:30 a.m.  Once the gates open in Rehoboth Beach and the season is at its best, Robin Hood will also offer dinner.

dscn1902

The restaurant is owned by Niki and Kosta Tsoukalas…..I asked if I could take pictures.  Niki said that Kosta could take my picture next to Robin Hood.  Oh no….I really just wanted Robin’s picture.  Talking to Niki and Kosta for those few minutes gave me the sense of what this restaurant is all about.  Comfortable, good food, reasonable, served by a very friendly staff.

dscn1903

Robin Hood is immaculate.  Plenty of seating choices; tables or booths.

The first thing I saw on the menu was scrapple….gotta have it!!  I ordered it crispy….Michael and I decided that it was the best scrapple served at a restaurant at the Delaware Beaches.

dscn1900

Then I ordered the Greek omelette, which was moist with just the right amount of feta and tomatoes…hold the bread, but give me the potatoes. Very good.

dscn1901

Michael loves eggs benedict and  I knew he would give me an honest review.  He loved them.

dscn1899

So, the next time you are visiting Rehoboth Beach, and are hungry, don’t just walk by…stop!!  It will be good.

Dining in Rehoboth Beach, Eden, Restaurant, Review, Delaware Beaches…The combination of presentation, creativity and taste is what sets Eden apart!!

dscn7933

I must have looked like I did not know where I was going, as I checked Eden’s menu.  Two couples said “there are no bad restaurants in Rehoboth Beach”.  I turned around and answered “I know, I live here”.  With that the conversation continued as to what restaurant they should go to on Sunday evening.  I told them that my choice was Eden.  I quickly told them a bit about the restaurant and I also told them about other restaurants in the area.  Then I said “read my post on AboutMyBeaches”.

In the meantime, my friends arrived.  We were looking forward to this dinner.  I mean it when I say that Eden has never failed me.  The combination of presentation, creativity and taste really does set them apart.  It is quiet inside, with just the right music on the background.  Tables and booths are the choices of seating.

dscn7936

Eden is located at 23 Baltimore Avenue, in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website? http://www.edenrestaurant.com.  The restaurant also has outdoor dining.  On summer nights or balmy fall evenings, it is a nice place to have dinner.

dscn7932

Danielle was going to be taking care of us.  She was so attentive and so professional.  Her suggestions were perfect.  I wanted to try something different and she guided me to dishes that contained amazing flavors.

When reviewing a restaurant, it can be said that we eat with our eyes at first; a beautiful presentation starts the process.  Eden offers that and so much more.  You don’t want it to end.

So, on Sunday night this was our experience.

Only 2 of us wanted appetizers, and we both ordered the same thing.  Truffled parsnip and Mushroom Salad – Spinach, Toasted Hazelnuts, Ricotta Salata.  Danielle told us how the salad was wrapped and how the flavors with the toasted hazelnuts were going to be so different and good.  She was right!

dscn7941

An entree of Wasabi/Sesame Crusted #1 Ahi Tuna, with sticky rice, seaweed salad, wasabi, and soy sauce.  This tuna will melt in your mouth.

dscn7943

Another entree that was very well received was the Grilled Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope, toasted Farro, heirloom carrots, Fifer white peaches, brussel sprouts, blueberry/black cardamon savory demi.

dscn7944

An order of grilled artichokes hearts for the table…tasty.

dscn7945

The Pan Roasted Salmon was beautiful and got good reviews, as well.  It had a lima and white bean saute, crispy rutabaga, maitake mushrooms, creamy butternut squash puree, and mizuna pesto.

dscn7942

I loved my entree.  I really did.  It was Braised Pork Ragu, with caramelized pearl onions, roasted apples, wild mushroom confit, rosemary fazzoletti and nutmeg/ricotta foam.  Lots of different flavors in this dish.  A fazzoletti is a pasta handkerchief; they are delicate.

dscn7946

Our dinner ended with a Tribute to the Candy Bar!!  Layers of peanut butter and dark chocolate mousse, ganache and sea salt.  Everything edible!!

dscn7948

Always love having dinner with friends….it seemed that the evening went so fast!!  Until next time.  Talk to you later.

Note:  Eden has a full bar.  It also offers catering and has room for private parties.  And, they are sensitive to those customers with gluten allergies.  On Wednesday evenings is Steakhouse Night.  Prix Fixe Menu.  $35 for 3 courses.  Save the date of Friday, 10/12 when there will be a Jazz Wine Dinner.

Eating in…Rehoboth Beach, GreenMan, Juice Bar, Bistro, Restaurant, Review, 2012 Season, Delaware Beaches

dscn4096

Finally, Jody and I were able to make it to GreenMan.  Can’t wait for this very popular breakfast and lunch spot to open every day.  At the moment GreenMan is opening Thursdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

dscn4093

GreenMan Juice Bar & Bistro is located at 12 Wilmington Ave., right on the ocean block.  Tel. 302-227-4909.  Keep that number because you can order take-out, including whole quiches, as well.

dscn4098

Some of the Rehoboth Beach restaurants are located in old “cottages” that give them character and distinction.  GreenMan is one of such restaurants.  It has been spruced up to tackle another summer season at the Delaware Beaches.

dscn4088

The porch at GreenMan is sought after.  The restaurant is small; inside tables and a small ordering bar.

dscn4091

There are blackboards mentioning the daily offerings, besides their menu.  The staff is friendly and some have been there a long time.

dscn4094

dscn4095

I wanted to order a shot of their wheat grass. I feel that when I come to GreenMan I need to be eating as healthy as possible.

On that particular day they did not have it so I decided to get the Super Juice.  It had carrot, apple, spinach and beets.  I love beets and that was the primary taste on this very colorful juice.

dscn4083

I think Jody had either the Hawaiian Escape or the Strawberry Seduction.  I can’t remember, but definitely bananas were the primary fruits.  You can tell by the color of our juices which one was hers and which was mine.

Throughout the day GreenMan serves gourmet sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, quiches, and burgers.  Teas, smoothies and organic drinks are always favorites.

Jody decided on a tomato and spinach quiche.  Always popular the quiches go quickly.  You can also order whole quiches to take home.

dscn4085

I decided to have a tofu and potato wrap.  If you think that was boring; think twice.  Delicious and perfectly seasoned.

 dscn4086

One day, I am not kidding, I am going to have their Creme Brulee French Toast…..as soon as I decide I want to gain weight…I will do that.  It is one of their most photographed offerings.
