I have noticed the traffic on Coastal Highway, up and down the Delaware Beaches, might have slowed down a bit during the week…but, on week-ends, it is just as hectic as summer. Getting out of town for the beaches for some fun and relaxation! It is a great time to experience Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island. These coastal towns have managed to capture the visitors’ attention. Restaurants are open, tons of shops from boutiques to outlets, entertainment, including theatre, music, and fundraising events. So, these are AboutMyBeaches picks if you are in Rehoboth Beach this first week-end of October.
Friday, 10/4 through Sunday, 10/6 – 37th ANNUAL FALL SIDEWALK SALE – Top merchandise at bargain prices…cleaning those shops to let the holiday merchandise have a little space. If you like to bargain hunt, this is the week-end to come to Rehoboth Beach. The sale will begin at 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Some store hours may vary. The sidewalk sale also includes Dewey Beach.
Friday, 10/4 until Sunday, 10/27 – MINIATURES EXHIBITION from 5 to 7 p.m.. Free and open to the public at the Rehoboth Art League, located at 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres. “Miniatures are personal objects that draw the viewer into an intimate concentrated little world that is breathtaking in its execution. Every single detail is miniaturized. Someone mentioned to me yesterday that they could see a difference in the amount of people at the Delaware Beaches. It is that time of the year when some are going back to school and others will soon have the beaches all to themselves.

LEWES
Tuesday, 8/13 – Sundown BBQ at 6:30 p.m. It will be a fun summer evening on The Lightship Overfalls. Rain date? Wednesday, 8/14. The Crew of the Kalmar Nyckel will be the special guests. The Overfalls deck will be open to catch the scenery and sunset. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. This admission will give you pulled pork on fresh baked rolls, or a vegetable wrap, pickles, chips, cole slaw, dessert, and beverage of choice; beer, wine, or soft drink. I thought I saw the sun coming out…let’s hope so since there are outdoor events to be enjoyed on this Saturday morning, besides the beach. What a summer!! Days of rain, some sun, then back to the same old thing. I feel your pain.

Doggies at the Beach – Located at 18806 John J. Williams Hwy. (Rt. 24) this facility is my dog’s, Addy’s, home away from home. Boarding, grooming, and training with a great staff that love pooches to death. It’s true!! Training classes are going on Saturdays until August 10th. Stop by and check them out. And, if you are interested, make a reservation, pay and you are good to go.
Puppy Kindergarten – Puppies 16 weeks to 6 months with no prior training. 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Basic Manners 101, Dogs 7 months and older 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
DEWEY BEACH
All Day Long – The Running of the Bull – The party starts early; only Dewey knows how to do this. The Running of the Bull is around 1 p.m., after everyone has been partying for some time. All leave The Starboard together. Police will assit on crossing the highway. I feel their pain too. Once on the beach….everyone together will charge the beach together…and must stay inside the orange cones while on the beach, haha…good luck. Officers will help you again to cross the road back to The Starboard because the party continues, since you have not been partying enough!!
There is more going on at the Delaware Beaches….these coming to mind on this cloudy Saturday a.m. as I sip my coffee!! A must.

Another gorgeous, hot summer day in Rehoboth Beach!! It’s Sea Fever at the Delaware Beaches. It is our time to shine. During the winter many head south; this time of the year the Mid-Atlantic beaches is the place to be. Rehoboth Beach has unobstructed beaches…you won’t even have to move your chair once you claim your spot.
There are so many events and activities. You can pick and choose what to do, or do nothing at all. But, if you do want to know….here is What’s Going On.
Saturday, 6/1 – It is the first Rehoboth Beach VegFest. A vegetarian celebration at the Beach. 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church on 19285 Holland Glade Rd. On Rt. 1, take a right after Tomato Sunshine. The church is right there on your right. Cooking demos, exhibitors, kid’s activities, veg food and very interesting speakers, you do not want to miss. Saturday, 6/1 and Sunday, 6/2 – Eating Rehoboth Walking Food Tours – You Eat, You Sip, You Walk, You Discover!! It is a 3 hour culinary adventure through historic Downtown Rehoboth Beach. The moment the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival ends…the works starts all over again. The 2013 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival will take place November 6th through the 13th. I was so happy to see that Damon Pla has been chosen once again as the winning artist to portrait the theme of this year’s festival. His acyrlic on canvas titled “Old Man and The Must See” is the selection for the 16th anniversary of the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival. Posters, programs, ads, t-shirts, and other materials will be released in July. In 2011 Damon Pla’s work was also selected. When asked what his inspiration was for this year’s piece, he replied “Old Man and The Must See” is based around the fascination of a combination of machines working together to serve one purpose, accentuating a journey, not a destination. In this case, emphasizing the work of the camera, not the subject being filmed.
Damon Pla is from South Florida….He is a self made painter. He offers original paintings, limited editions, commissions and trompe l’oeil/murals. FILM ENTHUSIASTS: Enjoy a unique opportunity to screen film submissions for this year’s Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. The Beach Eats – Exhibit at the Rehoboth Beach Museum – A celebration of eating in Rehoboth Beach. The museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue by the roundabout and Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce. It is a fun exhibit. I wrote a post on May 23, 2013 so if you want to take a peek just click on the month of May, 2013 and scroll down to the date. The iconic restaurants in Rehoboth Beach paved the way for the present restaurants. Remember Sydney’s? Sydney mentioned to me that having the restaurant at that time was “A Moment in Time”. Reminder: Parking Meters are in effect in all Delaware Beaches. In Rehoboth Beach, meters run from 10 a.m. until midnight daily. $1.50 per hour. Quarters and credit card via Parkmobile app accepted. Credit cards are not accepted at parking merters. Parking permits are required daily from 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in all non-metered areas. Scooters may park in car spots and pay accordingly or purchase a $40 permit to park in dedicated scooter spots.

Saturday, 4/20 – Movie Screening at 7:00 p.m. at Movies at Midway (Upstairs) on Coastal Highway. What We Need is the Impossible is presented by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society and it is a collection of short films by Academy Award nominated Director Sam Green. Included in this collection is his latest documentary, “The Universal Language”, which traces the history of Esperanto, a new language created in the late 1800’s by a Polish doctor who believed that if everyone in the world spoke a common tongue, humanity could overcome racism and war. Filmmaker, Sam Greene will be present to introduce his films and answer questions after the screening.
It is not often that a filmmaker visits Sussex County, so enjoy this rare opportunity to talk directly with him. This program is part of the Film Society’s On Screen/In Person series. The goal of the program is to bring the vision of some of the country’s best independent filmmakers to a broad audience throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Sunday, 4/21 – Rehoboth Museum Hosts My Doll and Me Event. This is the second year where young ladies in the area, ages 8-12 are invited to a tea party for girls and their dolls, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Museum. Ice tea, lemonade, and sweet treats will be served. Girls will play and play old-fashioned games such as hop scotch, cat’s cradle and hula hoop. Each girl will be invited to tell a special story about her doll. Girls are encouraged to dress up.
The cost of the party is $10 and includes admission to the Museum, refreshments and games. This event is limited to 15 girls with one doll each. Please call 302-227-7310 to make a reservation. Young ladies and dolls who have attended this event in the past are welcomed to join the party again this year.
The Rehoboth Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue. Last year I helped with this event and it really was a lot of fun. It brought so many good memories. When I was young I really loved playing with my dolls.

Saturday, 2/23 – Improv is a form of theatre in which actors use improvisational acting techniques to perform spontaneously. Is in the moment; no scripts, no memorized dialogue and no rehearsal. Delaware Comedy Theatre is the longest improve theatre company in Delaware. This non-profit organization is a monthly gathering of women that benefits a Sussex County charity. All funds stay in Sussex County; they go directly to the charity. Blogs are considered diaries in many respects. With that in mind, I took my “rescued” Heinz 57, Addy, for a much needed day of grooming. I have posted plenty of times about Doggies At the Beach, located at on Rt. 24 at the Family Dollar Plaza, off of Rt. 1 (Coastal Highway). Tel. 302-644-8200. Doggies At the Beach is the premier dog boarding facility in Rehoboth Beach. Climate control, playing time and plenty of attention for that pooch in your life. This is the only place I have left Addy. The dogs have a great time. I had to laugh because when I took these pictures, the Bassett Hound, would not get up. He just wagged his tail. Finally, he came out, hoping no other dog would take his spot.
The new grooming facility is so nice. It is not just for dogs; cats are also able to come for some grooming, as well. Bright colors!! That’s where I met Teri. She is letting the public know what’s going on at Doggies At The Beach. Nice chatting with you Teri. And, thanks for the tour.
The actual groom room is also full of pinks and purples. There is even a ramp for easy climbing for larger dogs.
On Saturday, January 19th from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m there will be a Discount Vaccination Day. Doggies At The Beach holds monthly vaccination clinics. The difference, this time, is that it will 100% benefit the Georgetown SPCA. Vaccinations are administered by a licensed Vet. It will be held at Doggies At The Beach located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24 for both dogs and kitties. Please have your kitties in a crate. First come; first serve.
New training classes by their new training partner; a certified professional trainer. Puppy Preschool, Puppy Kindergarten, Good Manners 101. You need to register and pay to hold a spot. The 2013 Week-End Festival of the Lewes Polar Bear Plunge, which takes place on February 1 through the 3rd will bring new Plungers into the scene. It is the first time the festival will be holding the Pooch Plunge on February 2nd from 11 a.m. until Noon, starting on the Boardwalk at Rehoboth Avenue. All for Special Olympics Delaware!! Doggies At The Beach is participating in this event!!

It is so good to be able to say thank you and mean it. I want to thank those companies advertising on AboutMyBeaches. Some of them I bugged a lot; explaining why they should be on my website. I really do appreciate it.
AboutMyBeaches started back on July of 2009. It was one of those ideas. I am a frustrated concierge. First it was going to be just a website. When my webmaster, Ed Timmons, met with me, I kept talking and talking. He probably thought I was more of a blogger. So, really, it was his suggestion. Here I am.
