Friday, 12/28 – December Monthly’s Screening will present the award-winning documentary “Bill Cunningham New York” at 7:00 p.m. upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway located on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach. This documentary traces the singular life and carer of the legendary New York Times fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham, whose iconic photos have spotlighted everything from hip-hop to haute couture.  He is now in his 80s and continues to bike around NY shooting the New York Times “On the Street” photo section.  The San Francisco Chronicle calls the film “deeply moving” and “visually stunning”.  Admission $4 for current members (card must be presented).  $6 for future members.  Tickets are sold at the door on a first come, first serve basis.

Saturday, 12/29 – The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and CAMP Rehoboth are co-sponsoring a screening of “Cloudburst” starring Oscar winning Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker at 2:00 p.m.  The screening will be held at the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway located on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.  This film was a 3-screening sellout at the 2012 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival and features virtuoso performances from Dukakis and Fricker.  Thias uproarious comedy-drama centers on the 2 women, a committed couple for 31 years.  Stella (Dukakis) has a foul mouth and a taste for confrontation.  Dot (Fricker) is losing both her sight and her grip on reality.  When Dot’s neurotic granddaughter shows up, announcing that she intends to break the couple up by putting Dot in a nursing home, Stella sees a way out; they must head to Canada and get married.  What follows is an alternately poignant and riotous comedy that has much to say about the true nature of love and commitment.  Tickets $7.00 can be purchased online by visiting http://www.rehobothfilm.com, or by calling 302-645-9095.  Please note that tickets are non-refundable.

Dining, Shopping, Entertainment, Thanksgiving, Rehoboth Beach, Christmas Tree Lighting, Visit Santa’s House, Moonlight Shopping…There is a Turducken in My Fridge, Delaware Beaches

My Thanksgiving Turducken arrived today.  Some years it comes for Christmas…I am glad it came early.  I have been getting turduckens for years.  I have also tried different companies.  My favorite is from a company in Louisiana called Cajun Grocer.  They have them available online at http://www.cajungrocer.com.

dscn9893

A turducken is a partially deboned turkey, stuffed with chicken and duck.  In between the layers, you will be surprised to find stuffing; different choices for you to pick from.  All are on the website.  Having someone in my family that needs to eat gluten free, I decided to call them.  This year their gluten free turducken is the one with a stuffing of Cajun style veggies; onions, bell peppers and Cajun seasonings.

Turducken, 2011

The idea is that as once you cut the turducken, you will be able to have a taste of the 3 meats, plus the stuffing.  The turducken is so good, easy to prepare and, definitely, a conversation piece.

“The term “clear space” refers to a focus on the process, knowledge, and humanity of arts performance: the idea that we find ourselves in what appears on the stage.”   clear space theatre company

The Clear Space Theatre Company launches its 100th production on September 21st through October 7th, with the comedy Shirley Valentine, starring Equity actress Elaine Faye.  This one-woman tour de force is an intimate moving and hysterical look at the life of a British housewife who discovers that her humdrum existence isn’t quite as dead as she thought.

She spends her days talking to the kitchen walls and preparing dinner for her grumbling husband.  When an opportunity to travel to Greece arises, she hesitantly seizes the moment….

Over the eight seasons of bringing live theatre to the beach, Clear Space has produced a diverse collection of musicals, dramas and comedies, including Annie Get Your Gun, South Pacific, Fiddler on The Roof, and The Crucible.

And, their thrift store, Encore, located next to Arby’s on Route 1, (Coastal Highway), is having a banner year with wonderful array of donated merchandise at the right price.

“The earlier settlers to this coastal area were Native Americans who traveled to the beach in the summer months to enjoy the cool breezes and abundant seafood.”  Abundant seafood? But, of course.  Cool breezes?  Well, if you have been at the Delaware Beaches, you know that those breezes have been a little too warm.

If you are visiting Rehoboth Beach take a chance to enjoy our award winning Boardwalk.  It is the life of the town.  Guest what?  The Travel Channel will be filming in Rehoboth Beach around the Boardwalk on the week-end of August 4th which is also when the Sandcastle Contest will be taking place.  So…..if you see cameras rolling, please smile!!

Let’s see, what else is going on in the next few days…..
