As I sat to write this post on Tuesday evening I was not sure how I was going to approach it.  But, right in front of me were my new phone and my new camera.  And guess what?  Both of them are now bigger and wider; not slimmer like the ones I have seen other people own.  I wanted them that way.

For all my posts the camera that I have been using is a Kodak Easy Share.  This week I got the Kodak M850.  It is slightly bigger but it handles well and it has better capabilities.  But this post is not about Kodak; it is about my experience of getting a new phone from Atlantic Cellular in Lewes, Delaware.

I remember many years ago when my kids were in the lower grades.  Apple Computers came to the Delmarva Peninsula and chose 4 families for a documentary on the importance of computers in schools and in the home.  My family was one of those who was chosen.  During the filming in our home one of the Apple Reps. started explaining how this documentary would be shown in schools across the country.  Then, he mentioned that when computers are bought, they immediately become obsolete because new technology is on-going all the time.  That people only use a fraction of what a computer can accomplish.  But, what stayed with me was that he also said that people should buy computers for their needs; not just because it is the new one; the more sophisticated one.

I am sure you are thinking o.k. then what?  I have applied that concept to my cell phone.  Just like everyone else, I cannot live without my cell phone.  What was I thinking when for so many years I resisted getting one?  It has been a long time since I thought that way.  But, my first phone was bought for emergencies.  Not soon after that, I was talking all the time on it and yes, I was hooked.  What can I say?  Then, texting and more texting.  My kids were regreting the fact that they showed me how to text.

And I was regreting the fact that I was so accessible to everyone, including them.  In the grocery store, in the car, in Church, you name it, they found me.  And how about cell phone etiquette?  Restaurants, people texting at the same time they are talking to you.  Oh, please I would love to say it isn’t so but the fact of the matter is that it is all around us.

Then the cell phones got smaller and slimmer.  I could not find it in the pocketbook.  It would keep on ringing; another missed call.  So, last week when I went to Atlantic Cellular I saw a phone that reminded me a little of the older ones; it was fairly new, though.  I decided that next time that’s the one I would get.  It felt like I was holding a phone in my hand.  And, that phone was going to be easily found among all my lipsticks, wallet, checkbook, brush, notebook and the occasional book that find their way inside by bag.  Thank God I found it.  My upgrade was not going to be until October 9th.  I had patience, I could wait.

Upgrade; oh yes, that’s another subject.  My husband and I have the oldest phones because our upgrades have been taken by our children.

You can ask Mark D’Ambrogi; I have known him for many years.  He is a Sales Associate with Atlantic Cellular, 18376 Coastal Hwy., #1, Lewes, DE 19958.  Tel. 302-644-2644.  Atlantic Cellular has other sales associates but I only deal with Mark.  The moment he sees me coming in he knows that he probably has to send a cell phone to my kids somewhere in the United States, asap.

I have been a customer of Atlantic Cellular for so many years.  They have been in this location for about 18 months; in the area for about 15 years. There is another location on Rt. 24. That telephone is 302-945-3334.  The new location in Lewes is very bright, comfortable, the sales associates are friendly and knowledgeable.

I told Mark I was coming back for a new phone, but guess what?  One of my children had his phone stolen and then told me that there was an upgrade available and he took it.  He needed to replace the phone immediately so he did it where he is currently residing.  Not again!!

I needed a new phone so I decided to go ahead without the upgrade.  The one that I got was the Casio G’z One Brigade.  Tough little phone with all kinds of applications but all I need this phone to do is make calls, text and take pictures, as well.  It is rugged, resistant to dust, water and shock.  Like I said before, it is heavy but feels good in my hand.  My husband says it feels like you are holding a brick.  The best part is the keyboard is a little raised so you can easily text; the screen has great visibility, as well.

Atlantic Cellular has so many programs that if you are interest you should stop by or give them a call.  They can taylor a program to fit your needs.

So many phones available; with so many applications.  Where do we go from here?

I love my new phone.  I am still learning how to best use it.  Then I got a phone call from a friend asking me, after I had texted her from my Brigade, if I had now joined the technology enhanced community in the 21st century.  I had to laugh because coming from someone that cannot turn a computer on …. don’t worry she is a good friend and I can make this type of comment without offending her.  But I would like to tell her that my new Brigade is an all digital phone.  It has text messaging, picture messaging, video messaging, mobile web, VZ Navigator, Chaperone, Media Center and V CAST Music with Rhapsody among other things.  I just won’t use all of that.

Transferring contacts and 300+ pictures to my new phone.

So, I guess I am set…thanks Mark…talk to you later….you know I will….
