What Defines a “Local”
When I started thinking about what to write on my blog I had to start by saying that I define myself as a local of the beaches, more so of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Bethany Beach, Delaware. I am not from the area but I have, actually, lived here longer than where I grew up. My friend, Barry, does not think I am a “local”. Because I was not born here, I am, therefore, an outsider in his eyes. But, I am as local as they come. I pay my taxes, my children were born in Lewes, Delaware and have gone to schools in the area. I have my own stimulus package going on at the beach and I try to always buy from the local vendors. So, with that said, I can tell you that I have acquired a wealth of information of the area. Sometimes, it might have been through friends but pretty much is by experience. My friends tell me that I have missed my calling; I should have been a concierge. I like to learn and pass on information about my beaches. A good example would be where to buy the best corn in July and August and where to find fig trees in the area, besides the one in my own yard.
As I start writing on this blog, I would love to get your comments, questions and suggestions. I will be reviewing restaurants and other establishments. I will give you my own opinions on these reviews and, hopefully, if there has been a “so so” review, I will go back again to that place of service and see if things have changed for the better.
Living in the Delmarva coast is a treat. Sooooo, see you soon,
Gloria
