What’s Going On? Rehoboth Beach Museum, MOSAIC ARTwalk, Saturday, December 13th, Delaware Beach Life Magazine 2014 Photography Contest Winners, Exhibit, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

“A good photo is a good photo regardless of the gear used to take it.  A person’s skill, knowledge, and eye is what will make photos worth looking at.”

I love taking photos and I used them on my posts constantly.  I am by no means a professional photographer.  I am one of those “point and shoot” ones.  Photos create memories, they tell a story and at times words are really not necessary.

Every second Saturday of the month MOSAIC, sponsors the self guided art and gallery tour from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  It is a time to visit and mingle with participating artists, get to know them up close and personal, and enjoy a culinary treat.  It is an art stroll.

MOSAIC”s mission is to promote art awareness in the Rehoboth Beach Area.  For more info. and to check the map, please visit

This coming Saturday, December 13th, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., the Rehoboth Beach Museum joins MOSAIC ARTwalk, hosting an opening reception for Delaware Beach Life Magazine 2014 Photography Contest Winners.  This is an exhibit of the winners for 2014 photo contest.  Delaware Beach Life magazine opens this photography contest annually to all amateur photographers.  The contest for 2015 will have a due date for entries of July 1, 2015.  For more info., please visit  Remember that the photos must capture life, here, at the Delaware coast.

The exhibit will run through February 23, 2015.  The Rehoboth Beach Museum,, is located at 511 Rehoboth Ave., right past the canal bridge, when entering Rehoboth Beach.  It is also next door to the Visitor Center. The Museum is open Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Admission is by donation.  More info?  Please call 302-227-7310.

The exhibit is small but strong.  The 13 award-winning photographs were chose from among more than 300 entries.  Their images captured the many forms of life on Coastal Delaware.  The judges referred to the contestants’ photographs as creations of vivid moments.

Terry Plowman, the Editor and Publisher of Delaware Beach Magazine stated:  “This year our entrants captured a variety of compelling views, as they skillfully combined color, composition and creativity.”

So if you live in the area, or are visiting, stop by the Rehoboth Beach Museum, to see how this popular beach resort started and how far it has come.

Have a great day…..too chilly for shopping!

Shopping!! Stella & Dot, Jewelry, Gifts, Accessories, Jade McClure, Independent Stylist, A Sip & Shop Party, Apple Sangria? That Too!! Lewes, Delaware

Plenty of times I don’t attend parties where they are going to be selling something.  These invitations always say that they love to see you, that you can check things out and don’t be pressured to by anything and on and on.  I should be happy that someone, actually, invited me, right?  But, I always feel I have to buy something.  That changed a couple of weeks ago, when my personal friend, Jade McClure, invited me to a Sip & Shop, Stella & Dot Party.  I invited my friend, Paula, to come along, as well.  The beginning of the Holiday Season with friends and meeting others in the community sounded like a good proposition.  Jewelry?, Accessories….Sip, Shop, & Chat!

Jade McClure is an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot.  Her Stylist ID is 183187.  I am giving you her info. now because you will want to come back to it after the post.  Tel. 302-245-9502.  On Facebook, please find her as Stella & Dot Stylist, Jade McClure.  Her email is  Website? When the website opens, you can see her name under Stella & Dot.  And, if you don’t just click on Stylist and put her name on.  Congratulations to Jade on her new venture.

Stella & Dot is a designer of jewelry and accessories for every woman on your list, including young girls.  Independent stylists host parties showing what this company has to offer and friends also get to hosts parties, as well….getting all kinds of goodies too.  A comfortable setting at someone’s house, appetizers, drinks, and shopping.

Ordering was easy.  It took no time to receive it.  The jewelry is well made, and the pieces I bought show that I was in the Holiday Spirit.  The recipients of these pieces are going to love them.

On the left is the Rory Necklace.  With that particular person in mind living in the tropics….perfect!   The one on the right is the Mae Necklace.  It is also for someone living in the tropics and the color reminded me of the island’s Flamboyan!

Loved these:  Necklace & Bracelet!!

Jade’s Sip & Shop was very well attended.  Sipping the Sassy N Simple Apple Pie Sangria, tasting some delicious finger foods…and trying some of the samples that Jade had on display.

The Apple Pie Sangria was so good and light…perfect for the Holidays.

2 bottles (regular size) white, sweet wine like Riesling or Moscato

5 cups fresh apple cider

2 cups ginger ale

2 cups caramel vodka (less strong? 1 cup and add more if desired)

3 honey crisp apples, chopped

3 pears, chopped (pears are so good this time of the year)

2 cinnamon sticks

Cut the fruit and place in bottom of your pitcher or jug.

Combine all of the ingredients except the cinnamon sticks.  Stir, and stir, and stir again.

Let sit overnight, or at least a couple of hours.  Then, about 4 hours before serving, throw in the cinnamon sticks.  Again, the stirring process…a few times.  Serve over ice and Enjoy!!

NOTE:  You may save the ginger ale until just before serving, making the Apple Pie Sangria a bit crisper.

So, what are you waiting for?  Have a Good One!!

Salads!! The Lighter Side, Delicious Salads, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware…I just want a Salad!!

I just want a salad!!  That’s all I want!  Many times this is what we say at a restaurant, referring to having a lighter meal.  Actually, some salads can pack those calories without us even knowing it.  At this time of the year, after Thanksgiving, and looking forward to Christmas and New Year’s….I really only want a salad; the lighter side.

I have a friend….her name starts with S.  When she goes to a restaurant she really deconstructs a salad.  Take this out, no, I don’t want that either, don’t like olives, onion? not sure, the dressing….nothing with mayo….really why doesn’t she ask for lettuce?

In the past months these salads at the Delaware Beaches have been so good, refreshing.  No more boring greens, or just a slice of tomato.  These salads make a meal.  Check them out!

AGAVE – Located in Lewes, Delaware at 137 2nd St., 302-645-1232, Agave offers a few salads.  The Mango and Avocado Salad with Queso Crema is substantial, full of avocado and mango and you can get it plain and simple or top it with shrimp or something else offered on that day.

Served in a tostada bowl, this salad topped with salmon is also a winner.

THE PICKLED PIG – 18756 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), Rehoboth Beach, Tel. 302-645-5444.  Website?  This gastro pub has spirits, pretty good food and salads.  Their Roasted Vegetable Salad I would say is fairly new but I think it is a keeper.  Asparagus, zucchini, red onion, tomatoes, carrots, spinach, quinoa, with a white balsamic-orange vinaigrette and parmesan….topped with grilled chicken, it is a complete meal.

Their Chopped BLT Salad has mixed lettuces, blue cheese dressing, smoked bacon, diced tomato, red onion and blue cheese crumble.

FINS ALE & RAW BAR – 19269 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-227-3467.  I thought this salad looked good and tasted even better.  The Chopped Salad has romaine lettuce, mixed greens, carrots, tomatoes, bacon, corn cucumber, Jack and cheddar cheeses….all chopped and served with their buttermilk dressing.  I topped it with Calamari.

Their Fins Bar Salad wih mixed greens, almonds, dried cranberries and gorgonzola cheese topped with tuna salad and their homemade whole grain mustard vinaigrette was delicious….nice serving of tuna salad, by the way.

CASA DILEO NORTH – Located at 18701 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1) in Rehoboth Beach.  Tel. 302-644-8256.  The Tricolore Signature Salad hit the spot.  Arugula, Radicchio, Belgian Endive, Treviso and spring mix.  To that mix chopped cucumber, tomatoes, and pine nuts.  It is hand tossed with lemon juice, plenty of fresh garlic and olive oil.

PETE’S CHEESESTEAK SHOP – It is located at 19287 Miller Rd. Unit 1A, in The Food Lion Shopping Center on Coastal Highway, RT 1.  Tel. 302-226-3000.  Website?  This restaurant is impeccable…so clean.  Fast service, and comfortable seating arrangements.  Their Greek Salad topped withy Gyro Meat is very good.  It is a garden salad with feta, Kalamata olives, and pita bread with a side order of a vinaigrette with a hint of strawberry…just a hint.  The pita bread is grilled and warm making it extra special and definitely a full meal.

EDEN – Located on 23 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Eden is really one of my favorite restaurants in Rehoboth.  Consistently good with professional staff, it stands out.  Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m.  Tel. 302-227-3330.  Website? Eden’s Grilled Caesar is awesome.  Sun dried tomato/olive tapenade and pecorino romano cheese.  The first time I had a grilled Caesar, it was many years ago at a restaurant in Hagerstown, Maryland.  I never had any other good one anywhere else until Eden’s Grilled Caesar and it has become a favorite.  Two views of this simple and delicious salad follow:

LILY THAI – Located at 10 N. 1st St. in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Tel. 302-227-3348….I love Thai Food!!  The Larb Gai Salad is spicy!!  It is so good.  Ground chicken breast tossed in lime juice, red onions and fresh mint….a gluten free salad!!

MODERN MIXTURE – Located at 62A Rehoboth Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-0600.  Website?  All salads are chopped at Modern Mixture.  Their House Salad has romaine, onion, tomato, and fresh cactus called “Nopalito”, feta and lime juice topped with avocado….this salad is gluten free!

DOGFISH HEAD – Located at 320 Rehoboth Avenue.  Website? In a mood for a Cobb Salad?  Their version, topped with salmon or a crabcake is very good….but their basil vinaigrette dressing is a true keeper of this salad.

LOBSTER SHANTY – Located a few miles west of Fenwick Island.  Address:  37310 Lighthouse Rd., Selbyville.  Tel. 302-436-2305.  It opens Thursday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.  Great views of the marsh.  A fantastic salad called the Seafood Tasters Duo has fresh lobster and shrimp salads over field greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and seasonal fruits with Nantucket’s Maple Vinaigrette.  An awesome salad if you like seafood.

So as you are shopping and exhausting yourselves….a little salad!!  Have a good one.
