Destination? Historic Lewes Farmers Market, Saturdays, 8 a.m. to Noon, Good Morning Delaware! Buying Fresh, Eating Local, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn1079

Every Saturday morning the gathering of a community and visitors is at the Lewes Historical Society Complex located at 110 Shipcarpenter Street in Historic Lewes, Delaware.  This is where buying local goes to a different level.  The Historic Lewes Farmers Market takes place early, barely after the sun has risen.

dscn1065

dscn1068

It is a must for many waiting for the market to open anxiously.  They want to make sure they have choice pickings.  But not to worry because the farmers come in prepared and they are more than happy to also answer your questions.

dscn1075

The Tomato Festival happened a few weeks ago.  If you visit http://www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org, you will find the winners of the recipes submitted to the festival.  They are some really good ones.  All recipes can be downloaded, plus the website has great info. on events, etc. etc.

dscn1080

The market opens 8 a.m. until Noon at the Lewes Historical Society Complex.  In the fall, from 10/4 through 11/22 the market moves to Shields Elementary School parking lot from 9 a.m. until Noon.  All that info. is also on the website.

Farmers markets affords the opportunity to buy fresh.  The produce comes from the farm to the market.  Forget all those miles produce have to endure when you buy at the grocery stores.  If you have the opportunity to visit a farmers market you will see what I mean.  In the meantime take a look through photos at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market in the First Town of the First State.

Crawling Philly, Pho 75, Vietnamese Restaurant, Soup Parlor, Philadelphia, PA, Brisket, Tripe, Eye-Round…Yummy!

dscn1025dscn1024

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is full of ethnic restaurants.  From street food to fine dining, it is a fabulous place to spend some time crawling the City of Brotherly Love.

Pho is the street food in Vietnam that was, originally, sold at dawn and dusk by roaming vendors.  My son invited me to crawl Philly and our first stop was Pho 75.  This soup parlor has been visited by Anthony Bourdain several times.  When my son visited for the first time, he told I, definitely, needed to try it.

dscn1026

There are 2 Pho 75 in Philly.  We went to the one located at 1122 Washington Avenue.  Tel. 215-5866. Other locations are:  Maryland; Langley Park, Rockville, Virginia; Arlington (my son just visited that one, as well), Falls Church, and Herndon.

Pho 75 was immaculate, the service was prompt and no sooner it had opened…..customers kept coming in.

You have to understand that pho is a soup.  The soups are served with rice noddles.  You can order either a small bowl or a large bowl for sharing like we did.  Then you have to order cuts of beef as toppings or do like we did and order the pho straight from the menu.

We order the pho with slices of eye-round steak, well done flank, soft tendom, and beef tripe.  The large bowl arrived quickly with extra bowls on the side and bean sprouts, hot pepper, slices of lemon and fresh basil leaves.

dscn1021

Then it was up to me to fix my bowl to my liking.

dscn1023

The broth was delicate, full of flavor but not overly salted, which I was surprised.

Totally recommend it.  Great value…I think lunch for 2 including tea and tip was about $10.00.

Note:  This soup is gluten free.

Have a great day!.

Delaware Comedy Theatre, Auditions, Tuesday, August 26, 2014, New Members, Ages 18-35, Rehoboth Library, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Live Theatre is an Adventure!!

DelawareComedyTheatre_005

If you take a closer look at this photo you might recognize friends.  Left to Right you will find:  Ellen Passman, Brenda Heckert, Kyle Levenick, John Williams, Mark Bringhurst, Valorie Jarrell, David Warick.  Center:  Rick Keller, Nate Williams, Mary Ann Benyo, Helen Perez and Front Center:  Amy Warick, and Jeff Hawtof.

Such an appropriate time for this post.  If you reside here at the Beaches, you know that our communities have been hit hard by the passing of loved ones.  Residents that have made a difference in the area.  But, as life continues, the show must go on, as well.

Improv (improvisation) is a form of live theatre.  Dialogue, plot, scene and the story line is developed in the moment.  The actors, at times, take suggestions from the audience and really go “to town”, with it. They also draw inspiration from their own personal lives.

What is so unique and neat about it is that when you see that performance, there will never be another like it.  It is so spontaneous, and very entertaining.

Delaware Comedy Theatre was formed in the Spring of 2005. The group has performed at the Philadelphia Improv Festival, The Dirty South Improv Festival, and the Baltimore Improv Festival.  DCT offers improvisation classes, corporate trainings, private parties and other adult and all age shows.  To learn more about it, please visit http://www.delawarecomedytheatre.com.

2015 Courage Unmasked: 911 4 HNC Fund, Cookie Kerxton, Fundraising Event, Save the Date, SEPTEMBER 2015, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, The Nation’s Summer Capital, Artists Unite to Benefit Head & Neck Cancer Patients, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

poster2-225x300

I read that “there are no challenges, just opportunities”.  This is very much true.  Life throws curves to most of us when we least expect it.  How we act on them says a lot of who we, actually, are.

I am meeting tomorrow an interesting lady in Bethany Beach, Delaware.  She is one of those that took an opportunity when a challenge presented itself.  Her name is Cookie Kerxton.  While undergoing radiation treatment for head and neck cancer, (HNC), Cookie wanted to find a way to ease the financial burden to other patients with HNC who cannot afford the many types of additional expenses incurred throughout and after treatment for HNC.

Courage Unmasked: 911 4 HNC was then conceived by her.  It means “Help for Head and Neck Cancer”.  Its uniqueness is based on the fact that the fund dedicates itself to granting financial aid directly to patients who have or had head and neck cancer.  The fund does not give dollars to research…none!  It supports only individuals and their families in the locations where money is raised.

Cookie is an artist and she invited over 100 artists to sculpt with radiation masks.  Cookie stated “Most people have no idea of how head and neck cancer radiation affects a person’s life, and almost no one knows about the radiation masks used for treatment”.

This event first started in Washington, D.C…..and in September, 2015 Courage Unmasked, will come to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware!!  Already the work is taking place in order for artists to transform radiation masks into art.

For further information and to get involved, please visit http://www.courageunmasked.org.  Much more to come in the future, but the start of word of mouth is always a good thing.

Note:  http://www.9114hnc.org is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Address:  4550 N. Park Avenue #506, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.  Tel. 301-654-7529.  Visit the websites to learn more.  Donate in memory/honor of someone.  Or, donate as an act of kindness by making a tax deductible donation.  You may mail the check to 911 4 HNC at the above mentioned address.

The information posted was taken from Courage Unmasked: 911 4 HNC.  More to come later on.

Have a good one!!

It is passed 5:00 p.m. in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and if you arrive at Mariachi located at 14 Wilmington Avenue, just steps from the award winning Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, this is the scene you might find by the upstairs bar…..mint being snipped and prepared for the so popular Mojitos.

dscn0980

Take a look at the bar and the homemade Margaritas were ready to be delivered to some expectant customers.

dscn0981

Mariachi’s telephone is 302-227-0115.  Website?  http://www.mariachirehobothde.com.  Mariachi’s menu will appeal to the entire family.  Also they are very aware of customers with a gluten allergy and other food related allergies.  All you have to do is ask.  You can dine in, carry out or take a seat on the balcony.

dscn3990

It is a good place for your “Crawling Rehoboth”…stop have a Margarita, Mojito or your preferred spirit and then ask for Pupusas, from El Salvador or Platanos, ripe and fried, a staple of Comida Latina.

Yolanda, Owner of Mariachi, is always hands on and very approachable.

dscn8772

The Pupusas are masa cakes and usually they are prepared by slapping the dough back and forth between greased palms.  They are stuffed and fried.  And Yolanda makes some pretty awesome ones.

dscn8770

dscn3984

Plantains are versatile…Yolanda serves them ripe and fried!

dscn3987

There is also a Kids Menu for 12 and under.

Mariach opens Sunday through Thursday at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.  Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Nos vemos!!

Crawling! a(muse.), Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Tasting, Burratta, Potted Chicken, Live Scallop, Soft Shell Crab, A Gourmand’s Heaven!!, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Rehoboth Beach Eats!

“”Gourmandise is an impassioned, rational and habitual preference for all objects that flater the sense of taste.”  brillat-savarin

Meet Hari Cameron, Chef and Owner of a(muse.), located at 44 Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  Tel. 302-227-7107.  Website?  http://www.amuse-rehoboth.com.  In this photo Harri was making mozzarella in front of all of us that were participating in the Eating Rehoboth tour.  Even though I have only spoken to him a few times, my impression is that he loves to teach.  His passion?  Food…he does play golf, as well.

dscn4072

A crawl in Rehoboth Beach is a must if you are visiting the area or if you are a local.  It is the best way to savour what downtown Rehoboth Beach has to offer.  A little shopping, a little sipping, and a little tasting.   Our destination?  was a(muse.).  It was a week ago Monday.  What a way to start the week….our crawl was a total success.  Well, my friends, Madelon and Cindi thought so too.

dscn0979

The bread brought to our table was delicious.  I usually tend not to eat the bread but a taste of it sprinkled with sea salt and the olive oil had me tasting a few slices.

dscn0965

We were sharing our courses….tastings!!  Burratta is Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream.  The outer shell is mozzarella, but the inside is a combination of mozzarella and cream.  It is unusually soft in texture.

dscn0966

Our next course was Potted Chicken.  Foi grass, port and whiskey…Perfect for sharing.  Unique taste and presentation.  Mix the potted chicken to get all those flavors immersed.

dscn0967

So far this is how my plate was looking. Burratta and Potted Chicken.

dscn0969

Madelon and I decided to get the Live Scallop.  Both of us loved this dish.  Fresh live scallops are so delicate and sooo good….Borage, dill flower, fermented cucumenter and roe.  That roe was a perfect compliment to the scallop.

dscn0971

The Soft Shell Crab with new potato, mustard and bone marrow….was also very delicate.  The bone marrow was a surprise.

dscn0972

I had been told to get the Bone Marrow Oreos, served with sweet silver corn milk.  So, take a good look at the photo.  They looked like oreos, they tasted like oreos, but they were made out of bone marrow…everything.  At this point, Hari stopped at our table to chat.  So impressed with the oreos and we let him know how good everything was, including the service.

dscn0977

From store to restaurant to store and back to restaurant….it was a great evening in Downtown Rehoboth Beach with friends.   Then, off they went to O.C.

dscn0978

Try Crawling Rehoboth….fun!!

Note:  This restaurant is sensitive to customers with food allergies!!
