Sweet Frog, Premium Frozen Yogurt, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, Sussex County…Gluten Free Flavors!!

dscn5381

Caution!!  Sweet Frog could be you daily addiction!!

Sweet Frog opened in May, at 19598 Coastal Highway, Unit #2, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-703-6990.  Very visible from Coastal Highway, across from the Midway Shopping Center, with plenty of parking.  You can also Find Sweet Frog-Rehoboth Beach on Facebook.

Ever since it opened I wanted to try it.  It was always so crowded that I figured it was best to wait until the Second Season. So here I was, late in the afternoon but early enough that at first the place was all to myself.

dscn5366

I was able to talk to Shannon, Store Manager of this most fun place to work.  It is decorated to appeal to children and the young at heart.  Sweet Frog originated in Richmond, Virginia.  This is a franchise and the owner has 4 of them.

dscn5375

In the store you will find out that you will have control of how much frozen yogurt you might want.  On the wall are all the dispensers. You can either choose one flavor in particular or swirl two flavors at the same time.

dscn5358

Above the flavors you will also be informed of the allergens.

dscn5364

I love frozen yogurt and ice cream….they are my downfall.  And, if I am going to succumb to that temptation then I might as well go all the way.  So, I picked the biggest cup.  Before you decide which flavors you might want you can also have a little tasting…ask for the tasting cup.

dscn5359

I decided to put about 4 or 5 flavors, ending with chocolate and red velvet.  I carefully tasted each one, and they all had their individual flavors well defined.  The yogurt was very creamy and refreshing.

dscn5376

I did not want any toppings, but if you do, then you have plenty to choose from.

dscn5368

dscn5369

The finishing touch will be the syrups!!

dscn5371dscn5370

After all that is done, set your cup on the scale….and pay.

A special treat for any time of the day!!  Very good!

Rehoboth Beach Eats, Modern Mixture, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Latin, Mediterranean, Salads, Burritos, Quesadillas, Tamales, Smoothies, Wines, Spirits, Specialty Drinks, Coffee, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware, “Come Enjoy the Yum!”

dscn5391dscn5390

When Leo says “Come Enjoy the Yum”, he is not just saying that for the sake of talking.  He means it.  Modern Mixture is located at 62 A Rehoboth Avenue in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.   Leo has been cooking away, offering his customers, fresh, healthy and delicious food.

Modern Mixture is part of the restaurant scene in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.  It encompasses everything you want from the customer’s point of view.  The restaurant is lively, Leo, his sister, and staff always have smiles on their faces.  Their food?  Yummy!!  Their enthusiasm is catching.

dscn5389

You can call 302-227-0600 and ask Leo what’s cooking today.  You can dine, or take out.  Leo has some awesome specialty drinks, and wine, as well.  The website is http://www.modern-mixture.com.  Modern Mixture opens in the Second Season at 10 a.m.  Leo has fresh brewed coffee every day and an espresso bar.  Modern Mixture is closing on Tuesday at this time of the year.  But, if you do need something special, make sure to give Leo a call even if it is on Tuesday.

dscn5384

So, on Thursday, Modern Mixture was exactly what I needed.  I showed up very late in the day, and very hungry.

After a few hugs and personal chatting Leo told me that he had just finished making tamales.  He had been changing his recipe a bit and I wanted to try them.

I chose to drink Leo’s Agua de Jamaica.  Jamaica is hibiscus sabdariffa.  In Mexico hibiscus blossoms are called Jamaica.  The drink looked and tasted like pomegranate juice.  Just like pomegranate juice, it is also full of Vitamin C, a good diuretic and excellent for the digestion.

dscn5386

My tamales had a filling of jalapeno, queso (cheese), and tomate (tomato).  They were served with Leo’s Middle Eastern Chopped Salad, which had mixed greens, falafel, quinoa salad, radishes, feta cheese, cucumber with a lime mint-herb vinaigrette dressing.

dscn5388

When I took the first bite of the tamal, I stopped to enjoyed the flavors and spices and then I felt my taste buds starting to dance.  I told Leo they were his best.

I ate it all and then Leo wanted me to have flan…I resisted that temptation and left it for another time.

Leo and his sister were so nice to me on a day that I needed it the most.  They are friends and I thank them so much.

John would have loved those tamales…..they werre gluten free!!

Have a great day!

Discover Rehoboth Beach, Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain, Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, National Register of Historic Places, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn5354

A drinking fountain is a drinking fountain.  What’s the big deal?  I bet you are thinking, this post is going nowhere.  Give me a chance, will you?

You have probably passed this drinking fountain on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk hundreds of times.  You might have even taken a sip out of it on one of those Southern Delaware hot days.

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain is a historic “temperance” drinking fountain.  This is its story:

Muddied and ill-tasting drinking water encouraged many Americans to drink alcohol for health purposes, so temperance groups, which were private benefactors, constructed public drinking fountains throughout the United States following the Civil War.

The National Woman’s Christian Temperace Union’s organizing convention of 1874 strongly encouraged its attendees to erect these public temperance fountains as a mean to discourage males from entering drinking establishments for refreshments.

Beer was the main alternative to water.  It was safer.

In 1929 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Delaware branch organization, the Rehoboth Beach “temperance” drinking fountain was constructed out of granite, measuring 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide.  In 1977 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

So, the next time you are walking on Rehoboth Beach’s award winning Boardwalk, enjoying your Boardwalk grub….check it out and if you are thirsty you know what to do.

It is comfort food.  No forks are needed, and they are easy to assemble.

dscn2694

Cindi and Ross took me to The Burger Bar.  First time for all of us.  This restaurant is making a statement in South Florida when the subject of burgers come to mind.  They have creative toppings and sides.

dscn2697

The restaurants is pretty open.  There is outside seating and they offer a full bar.

dscn2693

The Burger Bar has salads, soups, and other great dishes, besides traditional and non traditional burgers.

The beer battered fried pickles are a must!!

dscn2699

Our samplings were:  The Greek, a lamb burger, the Blue Sky Buffalo with applewood smoked bacon and “smothered” onions, and the Prime Steak Burger….not in that order…yum!  I forgot which is which, haha.  Love the hand cut fries…crispy and served on a tiny deep fryer.

Even though Rehoboth Beach is known as a summer destination, the Second Season is one of the best.  Restaurants are open, shops are full of merchandise, the beach is a place for relaxation….and for fundraising!!

If you are traveling with your pooch to Rehoboth Beach, check this fundraising event hosted by the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  It is the oldest and most experienced animal welfare organization in the state.

Last year, the event attracted more than 250 walkers with their pets.  It is sponsored by Browseabout Books.  The afternoon includes dog contests, including a bikini contest, a disc dog demonstration, refreshments, kids’ activities, and much more.

Location?  Lake Gerar Park in Rehoboth Beach.  Lake Gerar is one of the 3 fresh water lakes closest to the ocean anywhere in the country.  Along with Silver Lake, and Lake Comegys…these are the jewels of Rehoboth Beach!!

dscn9147

All the money raised is used to fund the work of the Delaware SPCA and for the care of abused, neglected and homeless animals, and their efforts to reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.  Delaware SPCA is the oldest animal welfare organization in thestate.  It was established in 1873.  Today it operates shelters in Stanton, New Castle County, and Georgetown, Sussex County.

This walk also coincides with the first day of the “off season”, when leashed pets can be walked on the Boardwalk and beach without restrictions.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. in Lake Gerar Park.  The walk will start at Noon at the north end of the Boardwalk.

Advanced registration is $20 for adults, before October 3rd, and $25 the day of the event.

Children ages 6-16, accompanied by an adult, are $5; those 5 years of age and under are free.  Walkers can pre-register on-line at http://www.delspca.org.

This year Bark On The Boards is part of a schedule of Delaware SPCA’s 140th Anniversary events that will culminate with the “Canines on the Catwalk 140th Gala” to be held at Greenville Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 16th.  The fun and fashionable festival will include a night of tasteful delights, entertainment, silent auctions, and a runway event featuring some very cool cats and haute designer dogs.  More info?  Please visit http://www.delspca.org.

Hope to see you there!!  Have a good one!
