Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Lewes Terminal, Cape May Terminal, Atlantic City, Bally’s Bikini Beach Bar, And…John Eddie, Traveling on the Ferry, Delaware Beaches, Southern Delaware

dscn4783

What were we thinking?  Not much, except my social secretary, Paula, and her daughter, Jackie, had Atlantic City as a destination in mind.  Well, John Eddie, http://www.johneddie.com, musician, rocker, boot stumping kind of genre…was playing on the beach.  I must have been the only one they invited and said yes to traveling on the Sunday of 4th of July week-end.

dscn4784

dscn4787

The Lewes Terminal is located at 43 Cape Henlopen Drive, Lewes, DE 19958.  The Cape May Terminal is located at 1200 Lincoln Blvd., North Cape May, NJ 08204.

It was a gorgeous day, hot and steamy like today and our ferry was departing from the Lewes Terminal at 9:15 a.m.  Here is the website because traveling on the Ferry to New Jersey and back is the easiest and most comfortable way to go.  And, you cannot beat the scenery, especially on such a nice day.  There are bikes to rent, tours, and buses to take you downtown.  http://www.capemaylewesferry.com.  Not only does the Ferry offer the rides but it also has a lot of fun events for visitors and residents alike. Next time check the On The Rocks Bar & Grill because they have the best hamburgers in town and best views.  Website? http://www.ontherocksde.com.

dscn4789

Inside, the air condition was on, the seats were comfortable, television on, and something to eat, as well.

dscn4810

dscn4785

On deck, all of our traveling companions were already soaking up the sun.  We decided to enjoy our ride along with the beautiful scenery.

The Historic Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse

The trip over to Cape May was great…..the drive to Atlantic City was crazy.  Finally, we arrived at 2 p.m.!!!

dscn4819

Rushing to the Bally’s Bikini Beach Bar and the Beach.  To tell you the truth, I was very surprised to see how good everything looked.  The beach was so wide; the sand so white.

dscn4852

dscn4826

John Eddie started to play….and Paula was happy!!

dscn4850

dscn4833

dscn4832

This bar sits right on the beach, so it was fun to be able to go and dance a little, and then grab a drink and kick back and relax.

dscn4844

Time went quickly and we had to catch the last Ferry back to Delaware.

dscn4854

On the Ferry, the sun was setting….we got comfortable to enjoy the ride once again.

dscn4856

The whale watching boat was coming in as we were heading out.

I am writing this post and some of it would be interesting to a few, but for the 3 friends that were there enjoying July 7th, a day of Summer of 2013…it was priceless!!

Until next time, ladies.

Saketumi, Rehoboth Beach, Restaurant, Open for Lunch, Open for Dinner, Sunday Brunch, Review, Plenty of Parking, Delaware Beaches

dscn4307

Have you ever been in Rehoboth Beach on a rainy day?  Plenty of those days lately.  When will it end?  Hopefully, soon.  Getting stuck in traffic while visitors are trying to figure out what to do, when pretty much everything is geared for the outdoors.

Saketumi is located at 18814 Highway One (Coastal Highway) in Rehoboth Beach.  Plenty of parking available.  So, on rainy days, at the height of the summer season, you don’t really want to spend your time looking for parking.  Their telephone is 302-645-2818.

dscn4305

Saketumi is open for lunch and dinner.  On Wednesdays they have great Bento Box Specials.  They also offer Sunday Brunch from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

dscn4290

I always sit at the bar.  I try to sit in front of Tanaka San.  He is Saketumi’s Sous Chef.  An artist, whose presentations are just gorgeous.  Watch him work taking time for his dishes to be just right.  And, they do have fresh Wasabi; for me, a must.

dscn4299dscn4295

When you sit at the bar, Tanaka will present you with a small bowl full of fish, cucumber, rice vinegar and Mirin…just to wet your appetite.

dscn4294

A little chat with Manager, Kim, is always a pleasure.

I had the Sunset Roll with Spicy Tuna, eel, cucumber topped with salmon, yellowtail, and sliced avocado with sweet goma and mild chili oil.

dscn4297

dscn4303

Note:  During the hectic summer season, and on week-ends I would make a reservation.

I almost forgot….Saketumi has gluten free soy sauce.

Have a great week-end!!

Rehoboth Eats, Kasha Pilaf with Roasted Veggies, Low Fat, Easy, Meatless any Day,Outdoor Cooking any Day, Perfect for Summer

I will have to thank Beth for this wonderful recipe.  Serve it as a main meal for any meatless day of the week, just add a salad or sliced summer tomatoes.  Perfect for company if you are cooking outdoors, as well.

The recipe uses buckwheat.  Buckwheat is gluten free.  It is not related to wheat, but to sorrel and rhubarb.  Thought you might want to know.

This recipe can be modified to be gluten free very easily.  First, instead of using Pam, just lightly oil the roasting pan.  Secondly, instead of the commercially sold balsamic glaze, then, just reduce your own balsamic vinegar by placing a whole bottle (I use Pompeian) in a small saucepan and cook it medium low for several hours, depending on your stove.  It will reduce to about 1/2 cup.  Be patient, watch it and don’t let it burn.  I have done that too.

dscn4560

KASHA PILAF WITH ROASTED VEGGIES

13 ounces Buckwheat – cooked according to directions on the box

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup chopped green pepper

1/2 cup chopped mushrooms

Saute the above veggies and add to the cooked buckwheat.  Set aside.

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.  Oil roasting pan with either Pam or your favorite oil.

Cut:  onion, red pepper, sweet potato, yellow and green summer squash.  I cut about 1/2 cup each, but make it your own and cut more or less.  Place on roasting pan and roast for about 45 minutes.

Mix pilaf and roasted veggies together.

Chill for 4 hours or overnight.

Drizzle with balsamic glaze or your own before serving.  And….Enjoy!!
