Bethany Blues Lewes, Restaurant, Gluten Free Entrees, Bar, Lewes, Live Entertainment, Sydney’s Music Revival, Davina and The Vagabonds, Friday, 11/9, Down2Rock, Saturday, 11/10, 8:30 p.m.

dscn8999

You get it all in one place; food, spirits, live entertainment, great atmosphere, kick a heel or two….Bethany Blues Lewes is located at 18385 Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), Lewes, Delaware 19958.  Tel. 302-644-2500.  Website? http://www.bethanyblues.com.  It is open year-round.

dscn8996

The other night we decided we were in the mood for ribs.  Bethany Blues is known for their succulent ribs, perfectly smoked.  The restaurant is, actually, a good size.  But, I like to sit in the bar area.  There are some booths and tall table available.  It is pretty lively on this side of the restaurant.  If you do prefer a quieter atmosphere, then ask to be seated on the other side.

dscn8983

Bethany Blues is one of the restaurants in our Delaware Beaches where people with food allergies can eat without worries.  The restaurant takes guests’ food allergies very seriously and tries to accommodate dietary restrictions as best as they can.

If you have a food allergy, please mention it to your server.  In our case, it is a gluten allergy.  The manager will come to the table to explain the menu and tell you what you can and cannot eat.  Believe me, they have plenty of entrees and sides, including barbecue sauces.

Our entrees and sides were all gluten free.  This is what we had.

To start we had their Crispy Pork Belly.  A few slices of in house, cured and smoked pork belly, served with their apple cider dipping sauce.  I usually order this appetizer.  I love the combination of flavors.

dscn8987

To tell you the truth, I had never had the St. Louis Ribs.  Our server recommended them and I think they will be my new rib addiction.  They had a house brown sugar rub, then smoked for hours.  Fantastic flavor.  My dish was called the Delmarva Duo because it had chicken, smoked and seasoned, then a bit of their house sauce was added.  The chicken was crispy and very moist.  My sides were the cucumber and onion salad and a very “hot” jalapeno slaw.  Very hot indeed.

dscn8992

An entree of half rack of Baby Backs, with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and the cucumber and onion salad.  Also, very good.

dscn8989

No dessert was necessary….we did ask for a doggy bag.  Guess what?  Bethany Blues Lewes is open for lunch.

Live Entertainment at Bethany Blues Lewes:

Year round, Sydney’s Music Revival presents local and nationally recognized musicians.  Do you remember when she had Sydney’s in Downtown Rehoboth Beach?  If you do, then, you have been coming to the Delaware Beaches for a long time.  It was the place to go for live entertainment, and good food.

Entertainment at Bethany Blues at this time of the year starts at 8:30 p.m.

Friday, 11/9 – Top Notch Honky Tonk Comes to Bethany Blues – Something special has happened to Davina and The Vagabonds since their last appearance at Bethany Blues in Lewes.  As a last minute substitute for John Mayer at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival last Spring, the band has been in huge demand both, nationally and internationally.

Two things distinguish this fine band; the first being leader, Davina Sower’s big nostalgic soul voice.  Think of a meld of Bessie Smith, Etta James, Alberta Adams and Amy Winehouse, and you come close to understanding what Davina is all about.  The other is the band’s crisp, clean sound…just piano, upright bass, trombone, trumpet, and drums.

Listening to Davina and The Vagabonds is like stepping into a wondrous musical time machine.  They have the panache and superlative musicianship to recreate the retro sound and ageless appeal of golden age Americana in high-definition reality.  Davina beckons an age when bad girls wore red lipstick and pin curls.   More info?  You can visit Bethany Blues’ website above mentioned or http://www.davinaandthevagabonds.com.

Saturday, 11/10 – Down2Rock will be performing live at Bethany Blues.  Check their website at http://www.reverbnation.com/down2rock.

Note:  Musicians interested in bookings should contact Sydney Arzt at artsinfo.sydney@gmail.com.

It looks like there is a beautiful week-end ahead at the Delaware Beaches…have a great time.  Talk to you later.

Election Day! Get Out and Vote, You Make a Difference

dscn3070

This Flag of Honor was created from the name of those who perished in the terrorist attacks of 9/11.  Now and forever it represents their immortality.

Today we get to vote.  Citizens over 18 years of age are able to cast a vote.  We take this vote for granted.  But, don’t do that so quickly.  It took years to get to this point.

Our right to vote in this country defines our Nation as a Democracy.

I have been told…well, our vote does not make a difference.  So many people in other countries are fighting and dying for the right to vote and to an election.  Don’t underestimate the power of your vote.

Four years ago, I was not able to vote on that election.  After telling everyone to vote, I was out of the state of Delaware, where I vote, when my family had an emergency.  I called and tried every which way to see how we could cast our vote.  It was not to be.

Today, I am so ready….I cannot wait to vote.  No hell or high water would keep me away from this one!!

Have a good day!!

Rehoboth Dairy, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Rustic Acres Farm, New Winter Hours, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

dscn1585

Every week-end I make my trip to Rustic Acres Farm.  It is the home of Rehoboth Dairy, and to tell you the truth there is no trip at all.  It is, practically, around the corner from my house.  But, if I had to make the trip, I would certainly do it, gladly.  Their milk is the best, really, it is.

Location:  37217 Rustic Acres Lane.  If you are leaving Rehoboth Beach, take the first right, Hollands Glade Rd., after Tomato Sunshine.  Follow this road almost to the end.

dscn8711

The market will be on your left.  A red building.

dscn8708

The dairy farm is on the back of the property.

dscn1611

I buy milk, eggs, scrapple, meats, cheese and vegetables.

dscn2239_00

They also have ice cream.

Their winter hours are:  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  But, if you do need them, please call 302-245-8308.  Earl and Mary Ann Warren are very friendly and will be happy to open for you at any time, within reason, of course.

I went Saturday to get my usual milk and I saw tiny sweet potatoes.  Earl told me that when he was young, his mother would roast these sweet potatoes, then, she would have bowls with cinnamon and sugar for dipping. I think he mentioned honey, as well.

dscn9633

Anyway, I roasted them and served them as a side dish with our dinner.  They were truly delicious!!

dscn9634

Note:  The cows did very well during Sandy.  Two calves were born:  a bull named Stormy and a little girl named Sandy!!

Have a great day!!

Cocoa Crawling in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware….The Second Season at the Delaware Beaches

I joined my fellow Crawlers, Jody and Jade, as we helped raise funds for the local charities of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.  The Rehoboth Beach Cocoa Crawler was celebrating its second year and for the looks of it….I think people were loving and enjoying every minute of it.

dscn9569

There was a definite chill in Rehoboth Beach.  We needed to get our wristbands.  They were only $10.  The proceeds going to the charities.

The welcoming committee was Maggio Shields Real Estate.  They were in charge of selling the bands.  They were a happy bunch.

dscn9562

From the Maggio Cafe, at First Street Station, and next to Maggio Shields Real Estate, we were offered tomato bisque.  It was warm and delicious.

dscn9566

Grotto Pizza was also part of the welcoming committee…an institution in Rehoboth Beach.

dscn9564

The sun was beginning to set quickly…it is that time of the year.  So pretty and crisp.  Rehoboth Beach was crowded and hardly any parking available.

dscn9568

Jody, Jade and I decided to stop for dinner at Lily Thai on North 1st St.

They had the Pad Thai, which was very good

dscn9570

I had the Crispy Eggplant in a Chili Sauce with Shrimp…delicious.  I do love this dish.

dscn9572

Now that our energies were recharged, we continued to crawl. Our next stop was going to be a shop on Baltimore Avenue that has been there for about 30 years.  Crysti.  There is a post in the making, but, in the meantime, meet Joyce and Crysti.

dscn9592

The best local restaurants were inside participating stores.  At Crysti, Dog Fish Head was serving…beer, of course.  But, check the dessert they had available; the bacon chocolate cheesecake.  It is available at the restaurant in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.

dscn9594

Outside people were chatting and having a great time.  Drinks on hand everyone was crawling through the streets.

dscn9600

By this time, another fellow crawler, joined our group. He is right there on the picture with Jade.  His name? Michael from Stephan & Co. Salon & Spa.  Jade also works at the salon.  I have to write a post on them soon.

dscn9602

Our next stop was Browseabout Books, where we found Cake Break.  They were serving mini cupcakes.  Perfect because they just popped in your mouth.  Not too much guilt, either.  Cake Break can now ship gluten free cupcakes and other gluten free baked goods.

dscn9603

Crawling away, we continued….and we found only one dog doing his crawling while wearing his sweater.

dscn9611

dscn9610

We continue on a crawling mode and stopped to see a sign that rain, shine or hurricane…it is always there, reminding us that salt water taffy is still so good.

dscn9621

At Carltons on Rehoboth Avenue we found Lupo di Mare.

dscn9623

They were serving “pot de creme”.

dscn9624

Crawling back to First Street Station, we noticed that there were still people shopping at the Penny Lane Mall.

dscn9620

At First Street Station, Paul Cullen was entertaining the crowds and serving his wines. A future post in the making.

dscn9618dscn9617

And, then, the crawlers gathered.  There was going to be a drawing.  You had to be there to win.  Well, we did not win, but Danielle did.  That was the end of a perfect evening, spending it with friends.  Priceless, don’t you think?

dscn9631

So, it was time to go home….a total success it was….

The connection of Azura Clothing to Rehoboth Cocoa Crawl is simple.  Its owner, Alyssa Titus, is also the founder and force behind Rehoboth Cocoa Crawl.  I stopped today at Azura to take a few pictures.  Afterall, it should be featured on this post.  Putting together these kinds of events takes a lot of dedication.  Alyssa has a family and juggles the dynamics of a family and a business, or two for that matter.  She also owns, Clad, which is located at the First Street Station, in Downtown Rehoboth Beach.

dscn9550

Azura Clothing is located at 139 Rehoboth Ave., Tel. 302-226-9650.  Website?  http://www.azuraclothing.net.

Chatting with Alyssa, I found out that she is also a designer.  She has her own label.  And, she has been in the business for a long time.

This has not been my first visit to Azura.  But, it has been the first visit in which I have to pay more attention to detail.  First impression?  I liked it.  The store is bright and full of merchandise.  If you are attending the Rehoboth Cocoa Crawl you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

dscn9547

I can see why Alyssa likes the quote; “A woman creates her style and fashion”.  Alyssa told me that she looks for very unique pieces.  The ones that can set you apart from the rest.  She blends styles very well; trendy, casual, and classic.

To check the individual brands carried at Azura, please visit http://www.azuraclothing.net/our-brands.html.
