Doggies At The Beach, Premier Boarding Facility, 5th Year Anniversary, Cage Free, Overnight Care, Day Care, Grooming, Training, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

I cannot believe that Doggies at the Beach is turning 5 years old on March 1st.  I have had my dog Addy, almost 3 years.  Time flies by.  I have also written posts about Doggies at the Beach in the past.  But, even before I had AboutMyBeaches or even Addy, I passed the word around.

Thanks to Renee who also takes her dogs to Doggies at the Beach I learned about this cage free facility.  That was the first thing that interested me.  I thought Addy had been in enough cages to last a lifetime.  Enough of them for her.

I fell in love with Jim and his staff.  They really love pets.  I feel very comfortable leaving her in their care.

Doggies at the Beach is located at 18806 John J. Williams Highway.  This is also Rt. 26.  It is right off Rt. 1.  Tel. 302-644-8200.  Website?  www.doggiesatthebeach.com.

Doggies at the Beach offers its customers a 2,400 square ft. indoor, cage free doggie day/night care facility.  Twenty four hour human supervision, 7 days a week.  The dogs are separated by size.  Plenty of toys available, as well as enough beds for their relaxation and comfort.  By the way, they also have private suites.  Climate controlled; your pooches will never be too hot or too cold.

If you are traveling, you can follow your pet’s daily routine; they have a webcam.

There are forms to fill out and vaccinations forms to be sent; a temperament evaluation also is required.  This is just to make sure your dog gets along with other dogs.

Doggies at the Beach has grooming available and a vet day with discounted prices.  You can visit the above mentioned website for more information.

In honor of their 5th anniversary, Doggies at the Beach will be offering all bathing and grooming dogs a 20% discount to bring back the pricing from 5 years ago.  Please mention that you read this post and receive 20% off bathing and grooming.  Offer ends March 2nd.

In addition to the above, for the week of Sunday, February 26th to Saturday, March 3rd, Doggies at the Beach will be offering Day Care prices rolled back to 5 years ago.  The pricing will be $21 per day the entire week!!!!  Please mention this post in order to get this $21 daycare pricing.  Offer ends March 4th.

Dog and Puppy Training Classes:

A variety of doggie training classes that are geared to build your relationship with your pet.  All classes are based on positive reinforcement.

New Pricing – $120 for 5 weeks.

Puppy Only Training Classes will begin February 22nd until March 21st.  Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Or, February 25th until March 24th.  Saturdays from 1 to 2 p.m.

Dog Training Classes (Over one year) will begin February 22nd until March 21st.  Wednesdays, 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Or, February 25th until March 24th. Saturdays from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Back in December my dog, Addy, was chosen “Doggie of the Week”.  A drawing by D.J. was given to her as a present.

Me? A Tourist? In Key West, an Overview of the City with Old Town Trolley Tours, Sightseeing, Key West, Florida

When I was younger you would not catch me in a trolley tour or bus tour through any city.  Not, me.  I would probably have preferred to remain ignorant, or be lost.  Not anymore.

I only had 2 nights and almost 3 days in Key West.  So, while the only sunny day showed its face and the rest of my party decided to chill on a hammock under the palm trees, I took off from the Casa Marina on the Old Town Trolley.

dscn2122

At first I wanted to tour on the Conch Train, but then I found out through my Concierge, Stephanie, at Casa Marina, that the Old Town Trolley stopped right at Casa Marina.  No brainer, right?

I hopped into the trolley.  Comfortable seats and a driver full of anecdotes (too many) about Key West.  Actually, Casa Marina was one of the points of interest if you are taking any Key West tours.  It was the vision of Mr. Flagler who did not even live to see the construction started and finished in 1921.  If you want to see my post on Casa Marina just click on the month of January 2012 and scroll down to the 11th.

The prettiest side of Casa Marina is the back towards the water.

The prettiest side of Casa Marina is the back towards the water.

Old Town Trolley Tours of Key West offer a 90 minute tour narrated by an expert guide; not  a recorder.  Get off at any of their stops and then reboard one of the trolleys to continue with the tour.  You can do that for 2 days.  Basically, you can tour at your own pace.  Tel. 305-296-6688.  Website? www.trolleytours.com.  Special rates for Military and Seniors.  Kids 12 and under ride free.

Going through the Sourthernmost point I found over 50 people lined up to have a picture taken on that famous buoy which stands at the furthest south tip of Key West.  A plaque with names of the brave Cubans who have drown trying to get to America is on one side.

dscn2124

On that Southernmost point everything is Southernmost; hotels, inns, eateries.

dscn2123

From the tour trolley we went by The Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House.  It was built in 1891.  It has been a post office, a court house and a government center when wrecking made Key West the richest city, per capita, in the U.S.  By the 1930s, Key West was bankrupt.  After a $9 million restoration, it has been brought back to its former glory.  More info?  check http://www.kwahs.com/customhouse.htm.

dscn2125

I wish I had been able to go inside some of these places, including the Key West Lighthouse.  It was built in 1847 and it is one of Florida’s finest historical sites.  The tower was at one point 46 feet high, but was then extended to 86 feet in 1894.  You can climb to the observation decks if you feel like climbing 88 iron steps.

dscn2129

This particular light station was built after the 1846 hurricane, which destroyed the original 1825 tower on the coast.  It is the 15th oldest surviving lighthouse in the country.

Since 1998 it has been on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark; same category as the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.  More info?  Visit http://www.kwahs.com/lighthouse.htm.

Down by the Conch Marina we found the Schooner Western Union.  This was the last tall ship assembled in Key West.  It is a last surviving example of a traditional American coasting schooner.  At present, it is a museum but it also takes off for sunset cruises.  If you would like to read more about it or see what they are offering, please visit http://www.schoonerwesternunion.org/key-west/boat-history.htm.

dscn2128

The schooner was made out of mahogany and yellow pine.  For 35 years, it served as a cable vessel for the Western Union Telegraph Co., repairing and maintaining undersea telegraph cable throughout Key West, Cuba and the Caribbean.

It is 130 feet long and considered by historians to be the world’s only surviving sailing cable ship.

The birthplace of Pan Am was Key West.  In the 1950s it would have cost $9 to go to Cuba.

dscn2126

Throughout Key West you will find the touristic shops; we have them too, here in Rehoboth Beach, along with tee-shirts shops, as well.

dscn2127

The above was just a sample; did not even have time to take a picture of the Hemingway House.  There was a line to get in.

I recommend the tour greatly, it showed the highlights with the ability to get on or off, if so desired.

Note:  Info. for this post was taken from the driver and websites.

Have a good one!!

Decorative Pillows Can Give a New Appearance; Adding Texture and Splash

dscn1858

I remember when a friend mentioned that she had a friend that was not sure about the pillows chosen for his home.  Well, I thought, that’s easy!!  Get new ones.

Granted, pillows can get expensive, but, they are still more economical than having to buy a new piece of furniture.

I am not a decorator, but I know that the use of pillows is a fresh and cretive approach to decorating.

Decorative pillows come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes, fabrics, textures and patterns.  They can immediately pick up a room; creating a new look, of finishing the look, for that matter.

dscn1861

I just came back from Florida and while there I stopped at a fine consignment shop called Varietai.  Varietai offers all kinds of home accessories, gifts, art, and jewelry.  Michele Ramirez is the proprietor.  I always stop to say hello.  Taking a picture here or there does not mean that I will write a post, but Varietai really does have a great assortment of  decorative pillows.  I figure you might want to know; word of mouth, you know how it is.

dscn0439

If you are in Delray, stop and say hello to Michele.  Varietai is located at 812 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483.  Tel. 561-455-2767.  Website?  www.varietai.com.  You can also find it on Facebook.

Indian River Inlet Bridge, Finally, Two lanes are open, offering great views, Delaware Beaches, Second Half? Opening in June, bike lanes included

The Indian River is 15 miles long, located in Southern Delaware. The River is crossed in 3 places, Rt. 113 in Millsboro, Delaware, Rt. 24/Rt.30 also in Millsboro and in Rt. 1 at the Delaware Seashore State Park.

That’s where you will find most of us traveling between the Delaware beaches going north or south.  It is a most scenic route.  This is also a major route for visitors going to Ocean City, Maryland.

The bridge was considered structurally deficient due to tidal erosion, so for the past few years the construction of a new bridge has been underway.  If you happened to have been caught in traffic during the summer months, on this route, well, think again.  We have the new bridge completely open.

It is very impressive, modern, with clean lines.  Best of all; the views have not been impaired.

dscn2235_00

dscn2236_00

I was traveling north, from Bethany Beach.  This bridge is our highest point, probably in all Delaware, so it was great to see that expansive view covering the ocean and the bay.  Never get tired of it.

Rehoboth Dairy, Rustic Acres Farm, Open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fresh Milk, Pasteurized, Not Homogenized, The Way Milk Should Taste, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

dscn2239_00

It is still early, I am giving you heads up; Rehoboth Dairy will open at 11 a.m.  Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday they will open at the same time and will stay open until 6 p.m.

Just went Saturday to get my milk, eggs, cheese, butter, scrapple and a few other things like ground beef, and ground sausage.  Can’t wait to see what they will be offering during the summer months.

On January 17th I wrote a post on Rehoboth Dairy.  All you have to do is click on the month of January and scroll down to the date.  You will then see all the pictures; farm, cows, milk, etc. etc.

Rehoboth Dairy is located at Rustic Acres Farm at 37217 Rustic Acres Lane.  It is a bit tricky to find it but here it goes.

If you are going north, as you leave Rehoboth Beach, turn right on Hollands Glade Rd., right after Tomato Sunshine.  If you are coming south, make a U-turn at Shuttle Rd. and Rt. 1 (by the CVS Pharmacy) and then turn right on Hollands Glade Rd.  After the turn on Hollands Glade Rd. then go all the way to the back of this road.  You will see the farm and the red building on your left.  Plenty of parking available.

You’ll be hooked….no kidding!!

Have a great day!!  Talk to you later.

Delaware Beaches, Real Estate. It has been a long Winter for Sellers; Spring and Summer? Buyers Enjoy Bargains, Low Property Taxes, & Tax Free Shopping

img_3331

The week-ends have been bringing visitors to the beaches throughout the winter.  When a holiday week-end comes around, it feels like summer.  I remember when the beaches were practically dead from Labor Day until Memorial Week-End.  It has not been like that for many years; the Delaware Beaches are a year-round resort!!

I love the Second Season at the Beach.  It is a more relaxing time.  No parking meters, restaurants and shops are open and the whole area kicks back.  We, the residents, enjoy the beautiful scenery and life at the beach at that most beautiful time of the year.

100_4349

Bethany Beach is considered to be a quiet resort; perfect for families.  I know it well.  I lived there for so many years.  I raised my children there.

img_3946

One of the real estate offices that has been part of the Bethany Beach community is Tidewater Realty.  It is located at  32892 Coastal Highway (Starboard Center, Rt. 1), Bethany Beach, DE 19930.  Tel. 302-539-7500.  Website?  www.tidewaterrealty.com.

The Broker of Record is John Merryman, III.  He has been in real estate for 35 years.  In 1988 he opened Tidewater Realty.  He is a total professional, who knows the community so well.  His office handles sales and rentals.  Tidewater Realty sells the Delaware Beaches with a specialty on North Bethany.

Tidewater Realty advertises on this website.  The website is right there on the upper right hand side.  Click on it to access their site.

It is true when I stated that it has been a long winter for sellers and that spring and summer will have great bargains.  Delaware also has low property taxes and tax free shopping.

Houses for Sale range from $299K to $7 Mil.  You know how it is, the closer to the water the higher the prices will be.  Still, there are very good bargains available with plenty of reductions.  Check www.tidewaterrealty.com where you will find out what’s on the market, and what the company is all about.

Summer rentals – So much to choose from, as well.  Townhouses, condos, single family homes, ocean front, ocean block, or close to town.  That’s your choice.  If you are thinking about coming to Bethany Beach this summer, please remember that the sooner you book your summer rental, the better it will be.  There are still prime weeks available.

Stop by the office, or call them up.  They’ll be glad to answer all your questions.

Have a great day!!

“Crash”: A Tale of Two Species” is a documentary that illustrates the story of nature’s amazing ability to create fragile connections among the most unexpected creatures, and how easily humans destroy these connections.  The iconic horseshoe crab is a part of just such a fragile connection.  They used to be harvested for fishing bait, leading to a significant decline in the population by the 1990’s…..If you want more info., just visit http://www.rehobothfilm.com  then click under Film Events.  Runtime is 60 minutes.  $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years of age.  More info?  call 302-645-9095.

Galley Grill Restaurant, Summerland Key, Florida, Lower Florida Keys, Eggs Benedict, Home Fries, Grits, Country Gravy, And….Scrapple!!!

dscn2177

Out of a scene of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives we came upon the Galley Grill Restaurant.  We had just left Key West for our hike back to Delray Beach, when everyone wanted some breakfast.

Don’t judge the book by its cover, it’s just what I have to say.  Stop and enjoy one delicious breakfast.  Casual?  You bet.  We had good service, always with a smile on her face.

The Galley Grill is located between Key West and Marathon, at 24863 Overseas Highway, Summerland Key.  Tel. 305-745-3440.  Breakfast or Lunch?  Hey, you decide.  For us, it was definitely breakfast.

The Galley Grill opens 7 days a week.  Weekdays from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and on week-ends from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

You will find an extensive menu offering everything from granola and fruit to Eggs Benedict in many different ways, grits, home fries, country gravy and……I almost passed out when I saw they had scrapple.  You know, I really do like scrapple.  I have friends in Florida and California that do love it as much as I do.  I hope Missy, Jim and Louise are reading this post in case they make it to the Keys.

The portions were huge.  We were hungry so no problem there.  This is what we had.

Eggs Benedict over Crab Cakes with a side order of gravy, biscuits, and home fries.

dscn2173

An Egg Scramble with Chorizo to give it that kick; onions and cheese.  That was a special of that morning.

dscn2174

My Scrapple, ordered crispy.  Sooooo good!!

dscn2176

Eggs Benedict without the bread and grits satisfied my husband, gluten free.

dscn2175

We talked, we ate, we paid and off we went….

Highly recommended by AboutMyBeaches…let me know if you do stop.
