Cake Break, Bakery, Rehoboth Beach, Gourmet Cupcakes, Gluten Free, Vegan, Peanut Free, And Good Morning to You Too Rehoboth Beach!!

100_4007

It is dangerous out there, when you are out and about in Rehoboth Beach.  Plenty of temptations is what I meant to say.  Too many places to eat or just to grab something.  The Downtown Rehoboth eateries are so accessible that if you don’t exercise self control you might find yourself in trouble.

But, if that happened to be the case, then, walk the Boardwalk.  I believe that it is a mile each way.  There you have it, a perfect solution.

img_4830

Stopped at Cake Break on Thursday, right after the GreenMan’s breakfast, with my friend Jody.  Some cupcakes needed to be ordered.  Cake Break is located at 7 South First St.  Tel. 302-260-9264.  Website?  www.cakebreak.com.  On Facebook, as well.

Just in time to see some beautiful baked goods coming out of their kitchen.

img_4850

The sticky buns looked delicious.  Out of the oven they were warm, I am sure.  Thank God I was perfectly satified, having just had my tofu and the shot of wheat grass.

Then, the cinnamon buns appeared out of nowhere.  Nice and round with that cinnamon aroma that is so distinguishable.

img_4851

I noticed the table on the side.  A little girl was with her mother.  She was so busy decorating her cupcake she hardly noticed me.  She had a heavy hand with the decoration.  She was so happy with her creation.  Off she went having started her day in the most satisfying way.

img_4848

Cake Break has been open 7 days a week year round.  Debbie, her husband and staff are always hard at work.  Call them up and you can pick up your selections at curbside.

It is the only bakery in Downtown Rehoboth Beach that is a nut free facility.  Cake Break offers vegan cupcakes, gluten free cupcakes and vegan and gluten free icing, as well.

P.S.  Cake Break makes one good cup of coffee.

Have a great day!!…Talk to you later…

GreenMan, Juice Bar, Bistro, Organic, Breakfast, Lunch, Restaurant, Review, Out and About in Rehoboth Beach, New Season, Delaware Beaches

img_4841

I was ready for GreenMan.  New season and new expectations.  Breakfast with Jody.  She is a foodie and ready to try anything.  She held back a bit when I asked for a shot of wheat grass.  Come on, I said, you have to tried it.  I was telling her this, knowing that I had never had it myself.  I expected a very earthy taste.  It was somewhat earthy but what gave it a sweetness was a small piece of apple which was put through the juicer.  About 3 bunches of the wheat grass make just a couple of ounces.  Jody tried it and thought the same thing; not bad at all.  I sipped my wheat grass through my breakfast and felt totally “green”.

I have written about GreenMan in the past.  If you want to, check my post, written on 12/17/10.  Just go on the left hand side of this blog and click on the month of December and then scroll down to the 17th.

GreenMan is located at 12 Wilmington Avenue.  Tel. 302-227-4901.  On Facebook, just like everyone else is.  The restaurant opens Wednesdays through Mondays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

img_4837

It has an extensive menu and I have had delicious breakfasts while sitting in this quaint house. At times I have sat outside, on their porch, depending on the weather.  GreenMan is simple, and small.  It is popular and can get crowded easily.

img_4847

Fresh fruit juices, smoothies, quiches, organic coffees, paninis, salads and bison burgers, among some of their offerings.  The grits with sausage and cheese is a favorite.  So is the creme brulee French toast, which I will have some day. Right now, only in my dreams.

img_4840

Jody and I sat around and started to catch on our lives.  We both can talk.  When it was time to order Jody chose the tomato and basil quiche.  GreenMan’s quiches are well known.  You can also order full quiches, which is great to know in case you have unexpected guests.  Just give them a call.

img_4844

In keeping with my “green” attitude of the day I ordered a tofu wrap.  It was very good.  Chopped potatoes, tofu, spinach and just enough seasoning for breakfast.

img_4846

If you are in Rehoboth Beach or surrounding areas and want to have a good breakfast or lunch, you should give GreenMan a try.  Let me know how you like it.

Hope you have a nice week-end…..see you….

A glossy brochure caught my attention; so did the mussels.  The pages were thick, colorful and  the brochure was easy to carry.  It was called A Taste of Five Points.  In it you will find menus, information on free outdoor entertainment, and special offers.  Yes, believe it or not, there are coupons that can be used at the restaurants located at The Villages of Five Points in Lewes.

Mod Cottage, Rehoboth Beach, Paper Goods, Tabletop Gifts, Home Accessories, Candles, Scent Diffusers, Downtown Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches

Out and About in Rehoboth Beach I came to visit Mod Cottage.  It was about time.  They are starting their 5th season at the Delaware Beaches.  I think you will see why it should be on the list of Must Stop Shops on the Avenue.

img_4398

Mod Cottage is located at 247 A Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  Tel. 302-227-7277.  Website?  www.modcottage.net.  The Proprietors?  Brad and Ed

img_4431

I heard laughter.  A couple of women were choosing mugs and napkins for a get together with friends; matching the quotes on the mugs with the friends that would be attending.  Did not know them and did not meet them, but they were certainly having fun.

img_4401

Accessorizing one’s home will add that personal touch.  But, also instead of re-decorating, some are re-accessorizing.  You know, displaying, coordinating, varying, re-positioning.  Basically, it is refreshing someone’s castle and adding those finishing touches.

img_4388

Look no further.  Mod Cottage has everything.  If you are here, in Rehoboth, stop by because you would have to see it for yourself.  Plus, you get to meet Brad and Ed.  I know, I have said it before, Rehoboth Beach’s shopkeepers are very friendly.  Ed and Brad are a good example of it.

So, let’s go shopping.  Well, you know what I mean.  Here are a “couple” of pictures of what Mod Cottage has to offer.

Rugs, placemats, and napkins and greeting cards.

Glassware by Simon Pearce.  His artisans are primarily focused on the East Coast and in New England.  The glassware can be personalized.

Candles, soaps, lotions, and Scent Diffusers.  So many to pick and choose from.

img_4414

img_4393

The store has pick up gifts for every occassion.

img_4394

One company that caught my attention was Mussels and More Pottery.  They are handmade of high fired stoneware and porcelain clays.  They are also microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.  Durable for every day, in other words.

img_4426

Fine linens and shower curtains.

Lupo Di Mare, Restaurant, Review, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Beaches, A New Season Full of Expectations

img_4352

I truly love it when I am at the end of my meal at a restaurant and I don’t want it to end.  Then, my next thought; can’t wait to come back.

That is exactly what happened on the first day of June.  We decided to go out to dinner a little later than usual.  Deciding on Lupo Di Mare was easy.  I have visited in the past; but not recently.  I will be honest with you.  I have had good dinners there but not memorable ones.  So, I was anxious to find out how this new season, full of expectations, was going to be in this very attractive restaurant.

Lupo Di Mare is inside the Hotel Rehoboth in downtown Rehoboth Beach.  247 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-226-2240.  Website?  www.lupodimarerehoboth.com.

img_4378

The restaurant opens at 5:00 p.m.  You can get a 3-course pre-fixe dinner for $19 if you are seated before 6:00 p.m.   Happy Hour? 5 – 7 p.m.

First impressions?  Classic and understated.  As you come in there is a small bar to the right.

img_4358

img_4357

Then, the room opens up with glass windows at one end, where you dine at street level.  Rehoboth Beach looks beautiful at night and if you are lucky to get one of those tables you will see what I mean.

img_4355

img_4359

Suspended chairs from the ceiling reminiscing of old traditional European restaurants; a somewhat open kitchen in the back.

img_4354

Tablecloths, art on the walls, a warm atmosphere.

img_4360

I will have to mention Sheila.  She was our waitress.  She made our evening so comfortable and I took all of her suggestions.  She was attentive; not intrusive.

Please note that Lupo Di Mare is sensitive to customers with food allergies.  They made suggestions on what choices to make that were gluten free.

We passed the focaccia bread waiting to be served and then it arrived at our table accompanied with Virgin Olive Oil.

img_4356

img_4363

John ordered the Grilled Artichokes with sea salt, fresh herbs, lemon and Virgin oil.  They came out so beautiful.  Grilled artichokes are a treat and if you like them, please order them.  You will not be disappointed.

img_4365

Sheila suggested I had the Roasted Beet Salad with crushed pistachios, chick peas, bleu cheese, shaved brussels, dark balsamic and Virgin oil.  The combination of of all things played with my taste buds.  The salad also had golden beets.  It was delicious and a good size salad.

img_4368

John had the Roasted Cod over risotto, with sauteed spinach, capers, white wine, butter and fresh herbs.  He was truly happy with his choice.

img_4369

An order of sauteed spinach with gold raisins, garlic, pecorino and virgin oil complemented our meals.

img_4371

Sheila told me that I would be very happy with the Pan Seared Sea Bass.  Boy, was I happy.  It was over a butternut squash risotto, spinach, capers, white wine, butter and fresh herbs.  It melted in my mouth and oh, so fresh, as well.

img_4373

There were some tempting desserts; not on this evening, though.  We were totally satisfied.  A coffee, perhaps.  Maybe next time.

A nice evening….good food, great company, good service and in my town…talk to you later…

Richard Clifton, Artist, Waterfowl Artist, Acrylics, Delaware Artist

When I met him I thought he was quiet and reserved.  But aren’t artists pretty much that way?  They don’t need to make themselves known; their art says it all.

img_4728

I attended an Artist’s Reception last Friday at the offices of Delaware Realty at 117 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE.

As I entered the offices, Richard Clifton’s paintings were displayed for all of us to see and enjoy.  Cocktails and appetizers were served, as well.

img_4746

img_4743

When I meet someone with such an artistic gift, I find myself at a loss for words, if you can imagine that.  I cannot draw a straight line.

Richard told me that painters are also good photographers.  At times he refers to photos; others are in his memory.

As I looked at the paintings on displayed the waterfowl images were so inspiring and they filled me with awe and wonder.  They were truly beautiful.

Richard is a self-taught artist who chooses acrylics as his medium; the genre of waterfowl is his specialty.  His work has been shown at the country’s finest art shows.  He is one of the tops; all-time list for awards.

Inspiration for his work is drawn from his surroundings.  He lives adjacent to Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.

In 1991 he won his first duck stamp contest.  The first of many, including Federal Duck Stamps, as well.

“Duck Stamps” are pictorial stamps produced by the U.S. Postal Service for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; not valid for postage.

Since 1934 the Federal Duck Stamps have been a vital tool for wetland conservation. The program has helped to place over 5 million acres under the protection of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System.

I had taken some pictures at Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach.  As I looked at these pictures now, and then see Richard’s paintings, I can’t get over how real his paintings look.  Here are my pictures:

To be able to express yourself in such a way……priceless!!
