I can’t believe it is already that time of the year when the decorations are coming down. As excited I was to put them up, I dread the thought of taking them down. I felt much better when visiting Baltimore last Thursday, I went through the neighborhood of Hampden.
Some of the decorations have seen better days but they were still hanging on. It was too bad I did not see them at night, because that is when they “shine”. If you are interested in seeing some of the photos at night, just put on your search Hampden Christmas Lights Displays to find some sites with great pictures.

Hampden is located northwest of the city of Baltimore, Maryland. It was originally settled as a community for workers in the mills many years ago. Since then, artists have discovered it; restaurants and shops, as well. Their website is www.hampdenmerchants.com.
During the Holidays, this neighborhood is the talk of the state. People from all over come to see the decorations on 34th St. Get it? As in Miracle on 34th St. The Christmas lights displays begin at dusk until 11 p.m. On Christmas Eve they stay on all night. The actual location is the 700 block of 34th St., between Keswick Rd and Chestnut St. Check them out next year.

When I saw all the decorations, all I could think was where the heck to they store all this stuff?

The first one that attracted my attention was the “palm tree”.

Someone loved National Bohemian Beer. The Natty Boh was originally brewed in Baltimore, Maryland. The iconic face; the “official beer” of Baltimore.

But, my favorite was the hubcap tree.

The Manger did not stay far behind, either.

My decorations usually do not come down until the end of next week-end. Even though my kids are grown up, I still observe one of the most beloved traditional and religious holidays in Puerto Rico; Three Kings Day. After that, they do come down fast.
Happy New Years Day!!

New Year’s Eve in Lewes, Delaware, is something not to be missed. Weather permitting a full lighted anchor will be dropped from the mast of Lightship Overfalls, to its deck, with a countdown into the New Year. This is an annual tradition. It is the only National Historic Landmark that does a “ball drop”.
Lightship Overfalls was part of manned lightships or “floating lighthouses” that were started by the U.S. government in 1820. It is one of the 17 remaining and one of only 7 of such vessels in the country that is still open to the public. For more info., please visit http://www.overfalls.org.
These floating lighthouses could be placed in deep waters where it was practically impossible to put fixed structures; they could also be moved easily.
In the mid 20th century new automated lights and radio signals made these vessels a thing of the past.
Lighthship Overfalls was built in 1938 and was one of the last to be built. In 1973 it was given to the Lewes Historical Society.

Then, on 12/7/01 ownership was transferred to the Overfalls Maritime Museum Foundation. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
So, if you are in Lewes, for this last day of 2011, then put on your party hat and get down to the canal, right at Front and Shipcarpenter Streets. Help everyone welcome 2012, toot the horn and drop that anchor.
Have a good time!!!

I think the experience of visiting Santa right on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk with a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean is so much better than when I used to take my young ones to a Mall. Plenty of screaming is what I got.

Anyway, this week-end Santa will be at his house and you can bring the kids:
Saturday – 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Sunday – 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Santa wants to meet your pet, as well….just bring him or her to meet Santa, on Sunday…from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, 12/18 – Journey of Promise is a Christmas Concert to be taking place at Epworth United Methodist Church. Soprano, Mary Anne Barcellona-Collins with the Epworth Church Choir and the Safe Habor Presbyterian Choir of Stevensville, MD will perform Joseph M. Martin’s cantata as well as solos from Ms. Barcellona-Collins’ Christmas repertoire. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in a very special Carol Sing-Along.
Address? 19285 Holland Glade Rd., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
The concert is open to the community. A reception will follow. A donation of $15 is suggested.
More info? Please visit http://www.epworth-rehoboth.org.
Have a great week-end!! Talk to you later….chilly isn’t it?

“Eating stale cookies and drinking warm milk by the fireplace at 2 a.m. while you learn Chinese from a 46-page set of assembly instructions.” Got to laugh because I always paid extra for those assemblies. No way I was dealing with that.
Holiday dread or excitement? All that baking, shopping, entertaining, and wrapping….Guess what? I have not done any of it..haha Well, maybe a little. I encountered a long line at the Post Office in Rehoboth Beach; 5 people were in front of me. Imagine that. No patience, because here, at the Delaware Beaches, we usually do not have to make those long lines anywhere. Hmm…at the height of the summer season, yes, restaurants are crowded, and finding parking is a pain.
But, it is December and we are all trying to mail our precious gifts. So, there I was. My Mother asked me last year to send her fruitcakes. I am surprising her this year by sending them again. I hope that’s what she wants. By the time these are mailed to Puerto Rico, they will be worth their weight in gold. And, they were, definitely heavy. Fruitcakes are not my favorite, though. Don’t they have fruitcakes in Puerto Rico, anyway?
During the holidays is best to avoid stress by doing something fun. I found an activity and an event. They are on the same day and at the same venue.
