Meet the ladies behind Chicks for Charity Southern Delaware. On the left is Kari Ainsworth, and on the right is Marcie Urgo. Both of them support the charitable organizations in Southern Delaware and on July of 2010 they decided to start their own. On the first charity dinner, there were only about 20 or 25 people. They knew that was a start; taking those first baby steps. Congratulations!! 4 years making a difference in the community!
Chicks for Charity….thrilled to announced that they have surpassed the goals they set themselves to achieve on that July of 2010. Last night, July 15th, look at the crowds…..and take notice….guys were in attendance!!
Once a month Chicks for Charity holds a charitable dinner at Fish On, located at the Villages of Five Points in Lewes, Delaware. For $25.00 you will get a buffet dinner with appetizer and dessert. There is also a Cash Bar available. And, a 50/50 plus raffle items!!
You can visit http://www.chicksforcharity.us to check when the next dinner will be taking place, or to learn more about them. You may also find them on Facebook as Chicks for Charity Southern Delaware. Over the past years some of the organizations that have benefited have been: Dogs for the Blind, MS Delaware, Justin’s Beach House, The Rehoboth Beach Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorp Volunteers, Global Delaware and many others including July’s 2014 Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
Tuesday evening brought the children to fundraise for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. This non-profit organization started years ago when a girl with cancer by the name of Alexandra “Alex” Scott decided to start fundraising so that doctors could find a cure for childhood cancer. She passed away in 2004 but her family continues in this effort. At the moment over $80 million have been raised throughout the United States…..as the saying goes “When life throws you lemons….it is time to make Lemonade”. More info? Please visit http://www.alexslemonade.org
The tables were full of raffle items ranging from restaurant certificates, jewelry, services, and plenty of items for the young ones, as well.
Mingling, chatting, and meeting new friends, while raising funds for those that are underserved, and in need. That’s what these evenings are all about; plain and simple.
Meet from left to right…Abby, Carly, and Grace. These 3 girls are the faces of Alex’s Lemonade in Southern Delaware.
Grace is now 10 and is cancer free!! Her sister Abby and her friend, Carly, work Alex’s Lemonade Stand in the area. Please take notice that on Saturday, August 2nd, at the Toy Store in Rehoboth Beach, they will be serving Lemonade to those thirsty visitors and residents. You will also find them on Wednesday, August 10th, at the Grub Grocer on Rehoboth Avenue, and later on Saturday, September 13th, they will be at Giant on Coastal Highway. When you see the following sign, please stop by, have a glass of lemonade, knowing that you are helping to find a cure for childhood cancers.
The stormy weather did not keep anyne away…they were all there. Check http://www.chicksforcharity.us, because Kari and Marcie will be there again next month introducing another charity to Southern Delaware.
Have a Good One!!
NOTE: Thanks to Bonnie and Julie for all the wonderful raffles!!
NEXT DINNER WILL BE ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 12th.

Location, location, location….Tanger Outlets….open so early on Sunday a.m.? Seaside Outlet Drive in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was so crowded. It was an event that is so dear to many residents and visitors. Racing or walking for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. In its 5th year, it brought record crowds. The host? Tanger Outlets.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition …”It is the only organization in the state of Delaware focused solely on breast health issues as they afflict the women and men who live here.” To know more about this organization, please visit http://www.debreastcancer.org.
DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run? Walk is an event for all ages. Participants can choose to take part in a timed 5K Run, a 5K Walk, or a 1-Mile Fun Walk. It is held rain or shine. Some came in teams and others just hugged as they considered themselves survivors!
All proceeds benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in our local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.
They were ready….the music was getting all in attendance pumped.
Then I saw the object flying over my head; don’t think a lot of people noticed….a drone, handled by a gentlemen who was volunteering for the event. Up to the minute images would be captured.
The food tent was getting ready for a huge post race party with beer and wine garden, and a coffee bar.
DE-Feet Breast Cancer Run/Walk will be back next year. The Delaware Beaches is a great place to fundraise….it is a destination!
Have a great day!

My dentists sent me flowers and they are gorgeous!! Don’t you get them from your dentists, as well?
Well, my relationship with my dentists go way back. It does help too that for the past few years it happens that my regularly scheduled appointments fall just a few days before my birthday. And no, I don’t do it on purpose. I usually go all out and announce my special date to the everyone in the office. I think a budget has been set up for my flowers.
Except this year it was one of those birthdays you don’t want to broadcast. It was a big one…..nevertheless Renee, Steve, Bruce, and the whole staff of Maplewood Dental Associates sent me such beautiful flowers. When you open my front door this is what you see.
I love going to the dentist. That’s right. I feel totally comfortable. I can even fall asleep. No fear like the majority of other people that just the thought of going to the dentist send chills through them. My father was a dentist so that probably helped too.
I can fully recommend Maplewood Dental Associates because they have always been so professional with my dental care all these years. They did also take care of my late husband, John, as well.
Maplewood is located at 18913 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Tel. 302-645-6671. Website? http://www.rehobothbeachsmiles.com You can also find them on Facebook.
If you decide to make an appt. and become a patient…..don’t take it for granted that you will be getting flowers. Just be happy that you found someone that will take care of your beautiful smile.
Thanks Maplewood Dental, you deserved to be my post.

Relaxing by the pool or bar…
The restaurant? Guava….Caribbean Creative Fusion under Chef Maira Isabel.

First time I heard about this was just today…Did you know about it? We hear so much about any other days but this one is probably so important to those jumping hoops to continue with their healthcare. My heart goes out to them.
Rare Disease is also known as Orphan Disease and is any disease that affects a small percentage of the population.
The Day was first launched in Europe in 2008 and in 2013 over 70 countries participated in raising awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about the impact on patients’ lives these rare diseases cause. Every day is a struggle.
To read more about it, please visit http://www.rarediseaseday.org.
Have a nice day!!

Who doesn’t want a bargain and who doesn’t want to make big profits from their attic, closets, homes, and garages? No need to wait for an answer. Consignment shops can help you strike pay dirt.
Another person’s “garbage” may be another person’s “gold”. That’s what’s been happening at Delmarva Furniture Consignment. This consignment shop opened on December 26, 2013 and already a 3,000 sq.ft addition is in place. That’s how popular it has been. It is located at 11212 Trussum Pond Rd., Laurel, DE 19956. It is really next to Johnny Janosik’s Distribution Center on Rt. 13. From Rehoboth Beach just take Rt. 24 through Millsboro, cross Rt. 113 and continue to Rt. 13. Turn left and you will see shortly on the left hand side of the road. Tel. 855-875-7292.
The Store Manager is Diane Frabizzio and the Assistant Manager is Doug Trice. The website is http://www.delmarvaconsignment.com. You can find all necessary info. to buy and sell in the website.
All the photos on this post were taken on Saturday, February 22nd. So as you can imagine items don’t stay long in consigment stores. Selling your items with Delmarva Furniture Consignment is very easy. You can do everything from the comfort of your home, just like my friend, Paula, did. I just jumped in her truck to check it out. So glad I did in order to pass on the info.
To consign all you have to do is visit their website above mentioned, then click on “Sell Your Furniture”. Fill out the consignment request form and attach your photos. Sending them the photos will make the process so much easier. At times these stores get too much of one item so they might tell you to wait until what’s in the store sells. They will give you a 120 day consignment contract with 50/50 terms.
You might choose to bring your items for their approval. This is done by appointment only. They can preview products on Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
All of their consignment merchandise is photographed and put on their website, therefore, allowing you to browse from the comfort of your home. If you see something that catches your attention, just give them a call at 855-875-7292.
Paula had done it all through their website. Upon arrival we sat with Diane. She is so friendly and will set the initial price with your approval and input.
The photos show how good the furniture looks. They accept home decor items, area rugs, pool tables, game tables, exercise equipment, antique, mid-century modern items and all should be gently used, in good shape, stain and oder free, without animal hair, rips and tears. They also need to have all major hardware, functional parts and frames. They will dust but they are not in the business of refinishing your items.
They do not accept cribs, lamps without shades, or water beds.
Delmarva Furniture Consingnment offers pick-up for a fee. The fee is not paid until your merchandise is sold. It will come out of your consingnment commission check. This fee is not charged if your items do not sell. They can pick up one piece or a room full. For info on their coverage map, please visit http://www.delmarvaconsignment.com.
After 30 days, the item will be 15% off initial selling price, after 60 days, 40% off and after 90 days, 50% off initial selling price. Should your items not sell during the 120 days contract, they will call and ask you to pick up your merchandise. Items that are not picked up within 7 days will be sold at no commission or donated to charity.
For example, on my photo I am showing the cutest accent chair. The starting price was $175 as of this week-end. On March 22nd it will be reduced to $148.75. On April 21st the next price reduction will be $105.00 and the last reduction on this piece will take place of May 21st with a final price of $87.50. What a deal!!
So, now that I have given you the tools for easier bargain hunting from your home, you will be able to find that special one of a kind item…the one that you have been looking for all along.

For me, shopping small and local has always been something that I have enjoyed. I have plenty of friends that love going “mall” shopping….not for me. I like that up close and personal kind of service. Which brings me to NEST, located at 11 South Main Street in Historic Berlin, Maryland. Tel. 410-629-1030.
Driving to Berlin from Rehoboth Beach, takes about half hour. No big deal, it is the Second Season so there is no traffic. Strolling a historic town, checking what’s new during the holidays is pretty nice, so Jody and I did just that.
I think Petey is really the Mayor of Historic Berlin. He is such a hard working little dog. I have featured him before and once again here he is…..greeting the customers and making sure that Dee gets up and gives us that personal attention we were looking for. Now, you tell me…where would you find something like this in a “mall”? You gotta love it!!
Dee has been quilting. Her remnants have become quilts. The reverse of the quilts is soft and warm.
Dee calls her handmade handbags Boppyowl. She offers 2 sizes and they are made with beautiful rich fabrics, lined with contrasting colors.
NEST is an eclectic and funky shop. Every time you shop, there are surprises; local artwork, jewelry, home accessories. At this time of the year the shop is fully stock. Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll will be on Friday, 12/14, so make sure you make NEST one of your stops.
NEST carries unwined candles from Unwined Candle Co., located in Sykesville, Maryland….from recycled wine bottles.
NEST opens year-round. Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Sunday from 12 until 4 p.m. You can find NEST on Facebook, as well.
Merry Christmas!!
