The Blue Hen, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Restaurant, Review, Sipping, Dining, Southern Delaware, Delaware Beaches, Summer 2019

Tuesday evening, before the Memorial weekend, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was one of those clear nights with cooler temperatures conducive to seating outdoors by the fire sipping a little something before having dinner. A Tempranino for me and a beer for Cathy.

The Blue Hen is located at the Avenue Inn on 33 Wilmington Avenue. Tel. 302-278-7842. Website? http://www.thebluehenrehoboth.com

There are not too many restaurants in Downtown Rehoboth Beach where you can sit outside. Besides that, The Blue Hen serves delicious food.

Having first a few drinks by the fire…..you can see my friend, Cathy with the red jacket on this photo.

The Blue Hen has a casual atmosphere, just like most restaurants at the Delaware Beaches. It is a way of life. There is a full bar available, as well.

We started with a salad called Baywater Farms Salad, mesclum, shaved beet, radish, avocado, roasted pepitas, ricotta salata and a green chili ranch dressing.

After the salad which by the way set the mood for our dinner was an order of Fried Green Tomatoes. Totally delicious with shrimp salad, avocado and espelette. Don’t worry I did not know what espelette was. But, inquiring minds want to know so I Googled it. It is a variety of pepper that is cultivated in the French commune of Espelette, which is in the northern territory of the Basque people. The combination of flavors and the shrimp salad added not only terrific flavor but a pretty presentation.

My friend decided on the Pan Seared King Salmon. It was like a tower with sunchoke cream, braised red cabbage, the salmon and green pickled cucumbers.

Not only did it look amazing but it tasted just like it looks here on the photo.

Softshell season is one of my favorite times at the Delaware Beaches. I love softshells sauteed. I think I do because it is when you first experience how sweet a blue crab is. But, at times, I indulge on a fried softshell. At The Blue Hen you had a choice, just so you know. Once our server mentioned they had them, I did not have to look any further. This was my first one of the season. It did not disappoint.

The desserts sounded delicious but we wanted to take a stroll on the Boardwalk before nightfall.

There are so many places to eat in Rehoboth Beach and surrounding beaches. Plenty of us, foodies, would like you try them all. It is such a personal thing, I hope you enjoy my choices.

If you are dining in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, a stroll is a must after dinner. Beautiful at dusk……Relax You are At The Beach.
