The Village Improvement Association, or VIA, as it is commonly known, invites players of all levels to participate in their 17th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to be held on Monday, September 21st, at The Peninsula.  This event will benefit the VIA’s local charitable outreach programs.

It is a well established golf tournament with golfers from all over the region participating in a day of fun and relaxation that benefits programs throughout the greater Rehoboth Beach area.

The Peninsula is located on Delaware’s Indian River Bay at 26937 Bay Farm Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966.  It is the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Design venue in Delaware.  Take a tour by visiting http://www.peninsula-delaware.com/golf.

Let me tell you about the VIA.  First of all, it is a unique women’s civic and charitable organization located at Boardwalk and Grenoble Place in Rehoboth Beach; off the Boardwalk.  When women get together they get things done.  The VIA is a member of the Delaware State Federation of Women’s Club (DSFWC) and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).

This orgazination has done so much since 1909 when it was first organized.  It is still committed and dedicated to their mission of supporting the needs of the local community.

The VIA is a 501(c)3 non-profit.

Following are some of the contributions of this powerful women’s organization:

The establishment of the Rehoboth Beach Library.

Provided parks with shrubbery, flowers and trees.

Provided the Boardwalk with lights, the iconic benches, water fountains, the original Bandstand, and refuse cans.

They also began a successful mosquito campaign.

Restored Cape Henlopen Lighthouse replica.

Helped with the formation of the Rehoboth Art League and Sussex Gardens Club.

They spearheaded a war bond drive to buy a bomber for the Air Force.

Established nursing scholarships.

Purchased Beach Wheels to provide beach access to the disabled.

The list goes on… Please visit http:///www.rehobothbeachvia.org/accomplishments

Throughout the year their events are very well attended.  They also have a cookbook, which by the way, I do have.  Delicious local recipes from the members of the Village Improvement Association.

So gather your golfing friends for a day of golfing at The Peninsula.

It is a beautiful day at the DE Beaches!!
